ABSUTH School of Nursing admission requirements for 2027/2028 start with five O’level credits in English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, at no more than two sittings. The school, which belongs to Abia State University Teaching Hospital (ABSUTH) in Aba, has no published cut-off of its own. What changed in 2026 is the route in: Abia State’s nursing intake for 2026/2027 was announced as an ND Nursing programme that required the 2026 UTME and an application through JAMB CAPS, with an Aba campus named alongside Amachara.
2027/2028 update: ABSUTH School of Nursing admission requirements and entrance process usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the rules on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest notices we could find (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
For a 2027 candidate, the plan is to write the 2027 UTME with the right subjects, score well above JAMB’s minimum of 150 for colleges of nursing, keep your O’level clean, and be ready for an entrance test or interview if the state keeps one. Below I set out what ABSUTH itself publishes, what the 2026/2027 state notice said, the older entrance-exam process (so you can recognise it if it returns), a safe target score, the CAPS steps and the warning signs of fake forms.
ABSUTH School of Nursing admission requirements at a glance

| NMCN approval | Full (September 2021) | NMCN approved list, December 2025 |
| Form fee, exam and interview dates | Not published for 2026/2027 | Check official channels only |
Does ABSUTH School of Nursing require JAMB now?
For most of its history, no. The school’s own page on absuthng.org describes a three-year basic (general) nursing course and lists only O’level credits; it says nothing about JAMB. Abia’s state nursing schools used to sell entrance forms through the Ministry of Health, run a written exam and an interview, and admit on that basis.
That changed for 2026/2027. On 11 June 2026 Myschool reported a notice from the management of the Abia State College of Nursing Sciences announcing admission into National Diploma (ND) Nursing at two campuses, Amachara and Aba. Candidates had to have sat the 2026 UTME and were told to apply by logging in to JAMB CAPS. Colleges of nursing in other states, such as the College of Nursing Sciences, Alor in Anambra, advertised ND Nursing the same way in 2026, with a UTME minimum of 150.
One thing is not confirmed: whether the “Aba Campus” in that notice is the ABSUTH School of Nursing or another site in Aba. ABSUTH’s own page has not been updated to mention ND Nursing. My advice is to plan as if the JAMB route applies to you. Writing the UTME costs you one registration; skipping it could cost you a whole year if the 2027/2028 notice again requires it.
ABSUTH Nursing cut-off mark and safe target score
Neither ABSUTH nor the Abia State College of Nursing Sciences has published a UTME cut-off or an entrance-exam pass mark. The only official figure is JAMB’s national minimum for colleges of nursing.
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB minimum UTME score for colleges of nursing (same as universities) | Official, NAN report of 11 May 2026 |
| 2025/2026 | 140 | JAMB minimum for colleges of nursing | Nairametrics headline, 8 July 2025 |
| Any year | Not published | ABSUTH or Abia State school cut-off | No official figure |
JAMB moved colleges of nursing up to the university band in 2026. Expect 150 or higher in 2027.
My safe target (advice, not a school rule)
| Your 2027 UTME score | My read for ABSUTH Nursing |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Below JAMB’s 2026 minimum; you would not be admissible through CAPS |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible on paper, but weak against a large pool of nursing applicants |
| 170 to 199 | Reasonable, especially with strong O’level grades in the five core subjects |
| 200 and above | Comfortable. This is the range I would aim for |
Nursing is one of the most wanted courses in the South-East, and state schools take a limited number each year. I would aim for at least 200 and treat 150 as the floor.
UTME subjects and O’level requirements
| Requirement | What to do |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics (JAMB’s usual combination for nursing; confirm on the JAMB e-brochure when you register) |
| O’level subjects | English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, all at credit (C6 or better) |
| Exams accepted | WAEC (WASSCE), NECO, GCE, NABTEB |
| Sittings | Not more than two |
| Combining results | Earlier Abia adverts allowed WAEC with NECO but not NABTEB with others; confirm in the 2027/2028 notice |
| Age | At least 16 by September of the admission year (2026 notice) |
| Direct Entry | Not offered in any notice we found |
Physics is the subject candidates drop by mistake. Every Abia nursing notice we found lists it among the five O’level credits, and JAMB’s nursing combination normally includes it too. Mathematics is needed at O’level but is not one of the four UTME papers for nursing.
For revision, our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus cover two of your four papers.
The ABSUTH entrance exam and screening process
Two processes are on record, and you should know both.
The 2026/2027 ND Nursing route
- Sit the UTME and meet the JAMB minimum.
- Apply by logging in to JAMB CAPS, as the notice reported by Myschool directed.
- Have five credits at no more than two sittings and be 16 by September.
- Any screening test, interview, form fee or dates: the part of the notice we could read did not show them.
The older state entrance exam (for reference)
Before the ND notice, Abia ran a joint entrance process for its nursing and midwifery schools, with forms handled by the Nursing Services Department of the Ministry of Health in Umuahia. Reprints of the 2024 adverts describe these steps:
- Generate an invoice: on the state nursing schools portal (abianursingschools.edu.ng) and pay through Remita.
- Complete the form: return with the RRR number, fill the form and print the slip.
- Submit a copy: take a photocopy of the slip to the Nursing Services Department, Ministry of Health, New Secretariat, Umuahia.
- Sit the written exam: a later reprint mentions a March exam with centres in Umuahia and Aba.
- Attend the interview: shortlisted candidates were interviewed before the list came out.
A 2025 reprint quoted a ₦10,000 form fee for the Umuahia and Amachara schools, but it did not say which year that figure belongs to, so do not budget on it.
Worked example (illustrative)
No aggregate formula has been published, so this example only checks eligibility and distance from my safe target.
- Candidate: Chiamaka, 17, scored 186 in the UTME (English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics).
- JAMB minimum: 186 minus 150 = 36. She is admissible.
- Against my target: 200 minus 186 = 14. She is close, so her O’level grades and any test score matter.
- O’level: credits in all five subjects across WAEC and NECO (two sittings). That fits the rule.
- Action: she uploads both results to CAPS, watches for the official notice and prepares for a test in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English in case one is set.
Emeka scored 158 with a D7 in Physics. 158 clears 150, but the D7 fails the O’level rule, so he should resit Physics before the 2027 cycle rather than apply and hope.
How to apply to ABSUTH School of Nursing, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register for the 2027 UTME: choose Nursing with English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. If the Abia State College of Nursing Sciences appears on the JAMB list of institutions, pick it; if you chose elsewhere, use JAMB change of institution once the Abia notice is out.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at an accredited CBT centre, have WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results added to your JAMB record. If you used two sittings, upload both. Check on CAPS that every subject and grade shows correctly.
- Watch for the official notice: check absuthng.org, the Abia State Ministry of Health and reputable reprints for the 2027/2028 notice. If it again says to apply through CAPS, log in there; if a screening portal is named, pay only through its invoice.
- Accept the offer on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept the offer and print your JAMB admission letter later.
- Pay acceptance and clear: the school or the Abia State Ministry of Health will give the acceptance fee, medical test and document checklist. None of these fees has been published officially, so pay only through the channel named in the official letter or portal.
Warning
Posts saying an Abia nursing or midwifery “form is out, call 070…” are run by agents, not the schools. The 2026/2027 ND Nursing intake went through JAMB CAPS, and older entrance forms were paid through a Remita invoice on the state portal. Never pay a private phone number or a personal account for a form, a “slot” or an admission list.
Our JAMB CAPS guide explains what each CAPS status means once your name appears.

What you study and where it leads
- Anatomy, physiology, the foundations of nursing and first aid in the early part of the course.
- Medical and surgical nursing, maternal and child health, community health and mental health nursing, with ward placements at the teaching hospital.
- NMCN professional examinations at the end, which lead to registration as a nurse.
- Later options: midwifery, a post-basic specialty, or a top-up degree in nursing.

Mistakes that cost ABSUTH Nursing applicants
- Skipping JAMB: the 2026/2027 state intake needed the UTME.
- No Physics: it is one of the five O’level credits.
- Three sittings: the limit is two.
- Paying an agent: forms go through official portals or CAPS, not phone numbers.
- O’level missing on CAPS: without it your record looks incomplete.
- Ignoring the age rule: you must be at least 16 by September.
If you are planning for next year, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and how to check your JAMB result.
ABSUTH School of Nursing admission: frequently asked questions
Is ABSUTH School of Nursing form out for 2027/2028? No official 2027/2028 notice had been published when we checked on 29 October 2026. Ignore posts that ask you to call a number to buy a form.

Sources and updates
The NMCN approval statuses come from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria’s list of approved schools (December 2025). The 2026/2027 ND Nursing requirements (Amachara and Aba campuses, five credits at no more than two sittings, age 16 by September 2026, 2026 UTME, JAMB CAPS) come from Myschool’s report of the Abia State College of Nursing Sciences notice (11 June 2026); the full official notice was not available to us, so fees and dates from it are not shown. The JAMB minimum of 150 for colleges of nursing and the 2026 admission deadlines come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The 140 figure for 2025 is from a Nairametrics headline of 8 July 2025. The school’s history, location, principal, phone numbers, three-year duration and O’level list come from ABSUTH’s School of Nursing page. The older Remita and Ministry of Health process comes from 2024 reprints of the state advert (Myschool, Studentship); the ₦10,000 fee is from an undated o3schools reprint and is not a 2026 figure. The Alor example is from Studentship’s reprint of that college’s notice (22 May 2026). Checked on 29 October 2026. This page will be updated when the 2027/2028 notice is out.
