ESUT Environmental Management Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028: Entry Requirements and Screening

ESUT’s official minimum UTME score for Environmental Management in 2027/2028 is 160, but no merit score is published. See the subject combination, O’level rules, screening terms, a worked example and a safe target score.

The ESUT cut off mark for Environmental Management for 2026/2027 is 160 in the 2026 UTME. Enugu State University of Science and Technology’s official Post-UTME advert of 4 July 2026 put the whole Faculty of Environmental Sciences in its 160 band, with Architecture the only course in the faculty lifted to 180. So 160 or more, ESUT as your institution and the right four subjects made you eligible for online screening.

2027/2028 update: ESUT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

That 160 is only the gate for applying. ESUT does not publish a final merit score for Environmental Management or any other course. JAMB’s brochure also lists the course twice, under Sciences and under Environmental Sciences, with different subjects, which trips many candidates up. This guide gives you the official figure, the history I could trace, my safe target score, which subject list to follow, how the no-test screening works, a worked example, the CAPS steps and where the degree leads.

Keep the two numbers apart. The minimum UTME score is the gate ESUT announces before screening; below it, the portal will not take your application for that course. The merit score is the lowest score actually admitted into the course after screening, and ESUT does not announce it. Most of the confusion online about “ESUT departmental cut-off marks” comes from treating the first as the second.

Environmental Management has stayed in ESUT’s 160 band in both sessions I could trace. In 2026/2027 ESUT moved Architecture out of the faculty band and up to 180, which shows that it does review these figures course by course. Bands can move from one session to the next, so treat the 2025/2026 row as history and check the new advert when ESUT releases it.

Some blogs quote much higher ESUT “cut-offs” for courses such as Medicine (314) and Accounting (246) without an ESUT document behind them. None of the lists I checked gives a figure for Environmental Management, so ignore any number for this course that ESUT itself did not publish.

Safe target score for Environmental Management at ESUT (my advice)

This is my advice, not an ESUT rule. Environmental Management draws fewer applicants than Estate Management or Architecture in the same faculty, and many of the people in its pool were redirected from those two. ESUT held no test in 2026/2027, so the score you bring from JAMB is what you compete with.

Your UTME scoreMy read for ESUT Environmental Management
160 to 174Eligible. A fair chance if your O’level grades are good and the pool is light that year.
175 to 189A good chance.
190 to 209Strong for Environmental Management.
210 and aboveComfortable. You could also aim at Estate Management or Urban and Regional Planning.

For a 2027 attempt, my safe target for ESUT Environmental Management is 190 or more, with clean credits in English, Mathematics and Geography.

Catchment and state of origin

ESUT has not published a catchment list. It is owned by the Enugu State Government, so Enugu indigenes are its primary catchment, but it admits candidates from every state. The 45/35/20 merit, catchment and ELDS split you may have read about is federal university policy, and ESUT has not said it applies it. If you are from outside Enugu, plan to win on your score and grades rather than on state of origin.

JAMB subject combination and O’level requirements for ESUT Environmental Management

RequirementEnvironmental Management
UTME subjects (Environmental Sciences entry)Use of English, Mathematics, Geography and one of Economics, Physics or Chemistry
UTME subjects (Sciences entry, other universities)Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics
O’levelFive credits including Geography and four other relevant subjects; the reprint asks only for a pass in English, but get a credit in English and Mathematics
SittingsNot stated in ESUT’s advert; most universities allow up to two. Confirm on JAMB’s e-brochure
Direct EntryTwo A’level passes in Mathematics or Geography and one of Economics, Physics or Chemistry (general rule)
Special requirementsNone published by ESUT (no interview or aptitude test)

These come from the JAMB brochure entry for Environmental Management under Engineering, Environment and Technology, as reprinted by Myschool (checked 29 October 2026). It carries no remark naming ESUT, so the general rule applies. ESUT runs the course in its Faculty of Environmental Sciences, which is why I treat this entry, built around Geography and Mathematics, as the one that matters for you.

The brochure also has an Environmental Management entry under Sciences that asks for Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics. That version fits universities that teach the course as a pure science, and it also carries no ESUT remark. If you are unsure, check IBASS or the JAMB e-brochure for ESUT before you register. English, Mathematics, Geography and Chemistry is the safest set I can see, because Chemistry is the one fourth subject that also appears in the Sciences entry.

On O’level, the reprint says a pass in English is enough. I would not rely on that. Almost every Nigerian university, ESUT included in its remarks for other courses, wants credits in both English and Mathematics, so treat them as compulsory alongside Geography.

ESUT’s advert says Direct Entry candidates are screened online and must be cleared on JAMB e-facility by their former institutions. It does not state the ND or HND grade it accepts for Environmental Management, so confirm with the department before you apply.

How ESUT screening works for Environmental Management

These were the 2026/2027 screening terms in ESUT’s advert. The window has closed for this session, but they show you what to prepare for 2027.

ESUT has not published an aggregate formula. The 2026/2027 advert sets a minimum UTME score per course and an online screening with no test, and it says nothing about weights or O’level grade points. So the only arithmetic you can do with official figures is to check how far you are above your course’s minimum. Some blogs quote a Post-UTME percentage for ESUT; that cannot be right for 2026/2027, because there was no Post-UTME test to score.

Worked example for an Environmental Management candidate

Take Chinedu, who scored 186 in the 2026 UTME with B3, C4, B2, C5 and C6 in English, Mathematics, Geography, Chemistry and Biology.

  1. Eligibility check (official): 186 minus the 160 minimum = 26 marks above the line.
  2. UTME half (illustrative method): 186 ÷ 8 = 23.25 out of 50.
  3. O’level half (illustrative method): 8 + 7 + 9 + 6 + 5 = 35 out of 50.
  4. Illustrative total: 23.25 + 35 = 58.25 out of 100.

Amaka scored 172 with B2, B3, B2, B3 and C4. Her illustrative total is 21.50 + 41 = 62.50, ahead of Chinedu with 14 fewer UTME marks. If ESUT ranks on UTME alone, Chinedu leads. ESUT has not published how it ranks, so raise both your score and your grades.

To see why your O’level grades can still matter, here is a method some other Nigerian universities use: half the aggregate from the UTME (your score divided by 8, out of 50) and half from five O’level subjects (A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5, out of 50). ESUT has not published this or any other formula. I use it only to compare two candidates, never to predict an ESUT cut-off.

How to apply for Environmental Management at ESUT, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN (for example NIN 12345678901) to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN. JAMB replies with the profile code you need to buy the UTME form.
  2. Register the UTME with the right subjects: pick Use of English, Mathematics, Geography and one of Economics, Physics or Chemistry and choose ESUT and Environmental Management. ESUT’s 2026 advert also let candidates who chose another school apply after a JAMB change of institution, but choosing ESUT from the start saves you that step and its cost.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: once your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result is out, have it uploaded to your JAMB profile at an accredited CBT centre or JAMB office. ESUT’s advert makes this compulsory for every candidate, and a result that is missing on CAPS can hold your admission back even after ESUT picks you.
  4. Open the ESUT screening form: go to portal.esut.edu.ng, select the session, and under Regular Students open the Admission Screening Registration for that session (Direct Entry has its own form). Enter your JAMB registration number and fill the details form to generate an invoice.
  5. Pay ₦2,000: pay at a commercial bank through Enugu State IGR Pay Direct with the printed invoice and its reference number, or pay online with a debit card.
  6. Finish and print: return to the portal, re-enter your JAMB registration number, complete the form, confirm and submit, then print the acknowledgement slip. ESUT warns that false information leads to disqualification.
  7. Check and accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS and Admission Status. If ESUT has offered you Environmental Management, accept it, then print your JAMB admission letter.
  8. Pay the acceptance fee on the ESUT portal: blogs report ESUT’s acceptance fee at about ₦26,000 (₦26,100 in some reports). ESUT’s 2026/2027 notices I checked do not state it, so confirm the amount on the portal before you pay, and keep the receipt for clearance.

Warning

Paying ESUT’s acceptance fee does not accept your JAMB offer. Accept the admission on JAMB CAPS first, because an offer left unaccepted on CAPS can be withdrawn, and ESUT cannot register you without it.

ESUT’s 2026/2027 admission list appeared on JAMB CAPS on 13 October 2026, Myschool reported. JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer and set 31 October 2026 as the end of admissions for public universities. Myschool also reported on 28 October 2026 that ESUT had released change of course and transfer forms for 2026/2027. I have not read their terms, so check the portal if CAPS shows a course other than the one you applied for.

If a CAPS status confuses you, our JAMB CAPS guide explains each one. Candidates who chose another school can read the JAMB change of institution guide, and if you plan to sit the UTME again, start with when JAMB 2027 registration starts.

Studying Environmental Management at ESUT

Environmental Management sits in ESUT’s Faculty of Environmental Sciences, which in the 2026/2027 advert runs eight programmes: Architecture, Building, Environmental Management, Estate Management, Geography and Meteorology, Quantity Surveying, Surveying and Geo-informatics, and Urban and Regional Planning. ESUT’s main campus is at Agbani in Nkanu West Local Government Area, Enugu State. The pages I checked do not confirm where the faculty’s buildings sit, so treat Agbani as the likely base and confirm when you resume. In Nigeria, Environmental Management degrees usually run for four years for UTME entrants, and Direct Entry candidates start at 200 level. ESUT has not published its own duration for the course, so confirm it in the departmental handbook.

Environmental Management teaches you to measure, protect and plan the use of land, water, air and waste, and to apply the laws and assessments that govern development. In the South East, erosion, flooding, waste and mining sites give the subject plenty of local cases. Expect areas like these:

  • Physical geography and ecology: climate, soils, landforms, ecosystems and biodiversity.
  • Environmental impact assessment (EIA): how projects are screened, studied and approved.
  • Pollution and waste management: sources, monitoring and control of air, water and solid waste.
  • Erosion, flood and disaster risk management.
  • Environmental law and policy: Nigerian regulations and international agreements.
  • GIS, remote sensing and environmental statistics.
  • Field work, industrial training (SIWES) and a final-year research project.

NUC accreditation: After the National Universities Commission’s 2024 exercise, ESUT reported full accreditation for programmes in six faculties, Environmental Science among them (Enugu State Government, 21 May 2025). The report names faculties, not programmes, and gives no separate grade for Environmental Management. That is a good sign for the faculty, but I found no programme-level result, so ask the department to confirm its status when you go for clearance.

There is no single registration council for environmental managers that a graduate must join before working, the way surveyors or quantity surveyors have. Some graduates later take professional membership in environmental or EIA bodies. I did not find any professional-body recognition specific to ESUT’s programme, so check with the department.

Career paths after Environmental Management

  • Environmental officer in state and federal environmental agencies, ministries and waste management boards.
  • Health, safety and environment (HSE) roles in oil and gas, manufacturing, construction and mining firms.
  • EIA and environmental consulting, either with firms or on your own after experience.
  • Erosion, flood and climate project work with NGOs and development agencies.
  • Research, teaching and postgraduate study in environmental science, GIS or climate change.

Mistakes Environmental Management applicants make

  • Following the wrong brochure entry: the Sciences version (Biology, Chemistry, Physics) and the Environmental Sciences version (Geography and Mathematics) differ. Confirm which one JAMB applies to ESUT.
  • Skipping Geography: it is central to the Environmental Sciences entry, both in the UTME and O’level.
  • Relying on a pass in English: get a credit in English and Mathematics.
  • Expecting a Post-UTME test to rescue a low score: ESUT’s 2026/2027 screening had no test, so your UTME score and O’level do the work.
  • Forgetting the CAPS upload: ESUT’s advert makes the O’level upload compulsory for every candidate.
  • Late awaiting results: results released after 30 September 2026 were not accepted.
  • Name mismatches: ESUT asks that names match across O’level certificates, the UTME result and other documents.

ESUT cut off mark for Environmental Management: frequently asked questions

What is ESUT cut off mark for Environmental Management 2026/2027? ESUT’s official minimum UTME score for Environmental Management in 2026/2027 is 160, the band for its Faculty of Environmental Sciences. ESUT does not publish the final merit score, and I would aim for 190 or more to be safe.

Is 170 enough for Environmental Management in ESUT? 170 clears the 160 minimum, so you could apply, and with good O’level grades you have a fair chance. It is not a safe score in a crowded year.

Is Geography compulsory for Environmental Management in ESUT? Under the JAMB brochure entry that matches ESUT’s Faculty of Environmental Sciences, yes: Mathematics and Geography plus one of Economics, Physics or Chemistry. Confirm on the JAMB e-brochure before you register.

Can I use awaiting result for ESUT Environmental Management screening? Yes. ESUT allowed May/June 2026 WAEC, NECO and NABTEB awaiting results, but results released after 30 September 2026 were not accepted.
