The Chapman MBA is the 21-month, 50-credit, STEM-designated full-time MBA at Chapman University’s Argyros College of Business and Economics in Orange, California. U.S. News ranks it No. 53 in its 2026 Best Business Schools list. Admitted students score between 600 and 710 on the GMAT with an average GPA of 3.41, and Poets&Quants reported a 49.4% acceptance rate for the class that entered in 2025.
Your Deadline is Early Action on 1 November 2026. If that is too soon, the Priority deadline is 1 February 2027, and Chapman says merit scholarship decisions follow these dates, so earlier is better. This guide covers the Chapman MBA requirements, acceptance rate, English scores, the 250-word Statement of Intent, the interview, tuition, scholarships, careers and the mistakes international applicants make.

Chapman MBA ranking
U.S. News placed Chapman’s full-time MBA No. 53 in the 2026 edition, released on 7 April 2026, tied with Boston College, Tulane and four others. Chapman’s own materials describe the programme as No. 3 among private schools on the West Coast in U.S. News. Poets&Quants ranks it No. 74 in its 2026 composite list.
Chapman MBA acceptance rate and class profile
Poets&Quants’ August 2026 data gives a 49.4% acceptance rate for the 2025 entering class, 47.0% in 2024 and 74.6% in 2023, so the school has become noticeably more selective in two years. Yield was 38.6%.
| Chapman full-time MBA admitted students | Figure |
|---|---|
| GMAT range | 600 to 710 |
| Average GPA | 3.41 |
| Work experience | Not required; two years strongly desired |
| Class size | Not published; described as small cohorts |
| International share | Not published |
| Average GMAT | Not published |
Chapman does not publish a full class profile on the pages I checked, so the class size and international share are unknown. Ask admissions for them before you decide; a small cohort with few international students feels different from one with many.
Chapman MBA requirements for international students
- Online application: through Chapman’s graduate application portal.
- Resume.
- Statement of Intent: 250 words maximum, uploaded as a Word or PDF file.
- Transcripts: from every degree-granting institution, in the original language with English translations, plus a copy of your diploma.
- GMAT or GRE: official score, institution code 4047. Scores last five years, and Chapman uses your highest of up to three attempts.
- Recommenders: contact details for two or three people.
- Interview: every candidate, in person or remote.
- English test: unless your previous degree was taught entirely in English.
- Application fee: $60.
- After admission: the International Graduate Student Supplemental Form.
Chapman evaluates foreign GPAs itself and does not accept outside GPA evaluations, so you do not need to pay WES for this application. Allow at least two extra weeks after sending transcripts for them to show as received.
Is the GMAT required?
Yes for the full-time MBA. Chapman’s FAQ says a waiver may be available for the Flexible MBA, not the full-time programme. There is no minimum, but higher scores help with merit scholarships. With admitted students between 600 and 710, I would aim for 650 or above on the classic scale, or the equivalent on the GMAT Focus or GRE, if you want money.
English requirements
| Test | Chapman minimum (MBA and most graduate programmes) |
|---|---|
| TOEFL iBT, tests before 21 January 2026 | 94 |
| TOEFL iBT, tests from 21 January 2026 | 5.0 |
| IELTS Academic | 7.0 |
| PTE Academic | 76 |
| Duolingo English Test | 130 |
| Cambridge C1 Advanced | C1 (180) |
Chapman does not accept TOEFL Essentials, TOEFL MyBest, IELTS UKVI or IELTS One Skill Retake, and it does not superscore. The test is waived if your bachelor’s or graduate degree came from an institution where English was the only language of instruction. Chapman says the rule does not depend on nationality or residency, and it does not publish a country list, so a Nigerian or Kenyan graduate should email gradadmit@chapman.edu with proof of English-medium instruction.
Chapman MBA deadlines 2026-2027
| Round | Deadline (fall 2027 entry) |
|---|---|
| Early Action | 1 November 2026 |
| Priority | 1 February 2027 |
| Regular | 1 June 2027 |
| Late | Reviewed if space remains |
Chapman does not publish a separate deadline for international students. In practice, a 1 June application leaves very little time for the I-20 and a visa interview, so international applicants should treat 1 February 2027 as the realistic last date.
Scholarship timing
Chapman says merit scholarship decisions are based on the application deadlines. Applying by Early Action (1 November 2026) or Priority (1 February 2027) gives you the best chance of a larger award.
How to apply, step by step
- Take the GMAT or GRE: and send the official score to code 4047.
- Take TOEFL, IELTS, PTE or Duolingo: or gather proof that your degree was taught only in English.
- Collect transcripts and your diploma: with certified English translations if needed.
- Write the 250-word Statement of Intent.
- Line up two or three recommenders: and enter their contact details.
- Submit and pay $60: by 1 November 2026 or 1 February 2027.
- Interview: in person or remotely.
- If admitted: complete the International Graduate Student Supplemental Form and start the I-20 process.
How to write the Chapman Statement of Intent
Chapman asks how Chapman and the Argyros College will help you reach your career and personal goals, in no more than 250 words. That is very short, so every sentence must do work.
- One line on where you are: your job and one concrete result.
- Two lines on your goal: the role you want after the MBA and why.
- The rest on Chapman: the specialisation you will pick, the global travel course, the Leatherby Center for Entrepreneurship and Business Ethics, or the Orange County and Los Angeles media and entertainment market.
For illustration: “I produce marketing campaigns for a Nairobi television network, and last year our streaming sign-ups doubled. I want to move into strategy at a Los Angeles studio. Chapman’s entertainment and media management specialisation, close to the Los Angeles studios, is the most direct route I have found.”
Do not spend words restating your resume. Count them; going over 250 shows you did not read the instructions.
The Chapman MBA interview
Chapman interviews every candidate, either in person or remotely. Expect a conversation about your resume, your goals, why an MBA now, and why Chapman over larger schools nearby. Because the cohorts are small, the interviewer will also be judging whether you will contribute in class. Have two or three questions ready about the specialisations and career support.
What the admissions committee looks for
- A GMAT or GRE score that fits the 600 to 710 range of admitted students.
- An undergraduate GPA close to the 3.41 average.
- About two years of work experience, though it is not required.
- A goal that one of the eight specialisations clearly supports.
- A tight, specific Statement of Intent and a confident interview.
Chapman MBA tuition and cost 2026-2027
| 2026-27 item | Amount |
|---|---|
| Full-Time MBA tuition | $2,135 per credit |
| Tuition for 50 credits | $106,750 |
| Student health insurance | $2,496 a year |
| MBA Associated Student Fee | $40 |
| Application fee | $60 |
Chapman’s graduate cost of attendance page gives these 2026-27 living estimates for a nine-month year off campus in Orange:
| Living cost (2026-27, nine months) | Amount |
|---|---|
| Housing and food | $29,160 |
| Personal expenses | $5,130 |
| Transportation | $4,288 |
| Books and supplies | $1,200 |
| Total excluding tuition and fees | $39,778 |
If you take 25 credits a year, tuition is about $53,375 a year, and the first-year total with insurance and living costs comes close to $96,000. Chapman’s rates are subject to change and it does not show a single annual MBA figure, so confirm the credit load per semester with admissions.
Costs not covered by tuition
- A car or ride costs; Orange County is spread out.
- The global travel course, if you choose one; Chapman does not list its cost on the MBA page.
- Summer living costs between the two years.
- Visa fees (SEVIS I-901 and the visa application fee) and flights.
- Test fees and official score reports.
- Certified translations of transcripts.
Chapman MBA scholarships for international students
Chapman says international applicants are considered for merit scholarships and that awards depend on which deadline you apply by. It does not name individual scholarships or publish amounts on the MBA pages, and it notes that international applicants cannot get U.S. federal loans. Prodigy, MPOWER and other no-cosigner loans are not listed. For outside funding, see our list of the best American scholarships for international students.
STEM designation and OPT
Chapman says the full-time MBA is STEM-designated and that international graduates can apply for an extension of up to two years of Optional Practical Training on top of the standard year. That is up to three years of U.S. work authorisation in total, which matters a great deal if you want to stay in California after graduating.
Chapman MBA salary and employment
Chapman does not publish full-time MBA employment figures, salaries or top employers on the pages I checked. The programme page mentions dedicated career resources and a graduate who became a data analyst at Caesars Entertainment. Without a published employment report, ask admissions for the latest placement rate, median salary and the share of international graduates who found U.S. jobs. I would not commit to a $100,000-plus degree without those numbers.
Common mistakes international applicants make
- Assuming the GMAT is optional: the waiver applies to the Flexible MBA, not the full-time programme.
- Writing 500 words: the Statement of Intent is capped at 250.
- Applying in June: too late for most visa timelines and for the best scholarships.
- Sending MyBest or IELTS UKVI scores: Chapman rejects them.
- Paying for a WES evaluation: Chapman does its own and does not use outside evaluations.
- Skipping translations: transcripts must come in the original language with English translations.
- Budgeting without rent: housing and food alone are estimated at $29,160 for nine months.
Who should apply to Chapman, and who shouldn’t
Apply if you want a small, private, STEM-designated MBA in Southern California, especially if entertainment and media, entrepreneurship or business analytics is your field, and if your GMAT is around 600 or above.
Think twice if you need published salary outcomes before you commit, if you want a large international peer group, or if the full sticker price is out of reach without a big scholarship.
Chapman vs peer MBA programmes
| School | U.S. News 2026 | Avg GMAT | Tuition 2026-27 | International share | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Chapman Argyros | No. 53 | Not published (admitted range 600 to 710) | $2,135 per credit | Not published | 1 November 2026 |
| UCI Merage | No. 51 | Not published | About $61,850 a year core charges (nonresident) | About one-third | 15 January 2027 |
| Tulane Freeman | No. 53 | Not published by Freeman | $1,989 per credit | Not published by Freeman | 1 November 2026 |
| Boston College Carroll | No. 53 | 650 (GMAT 10th edition, Class of 2028) | $70,390 a year | 18% | 15 December 2026 |
UC Irvine’s Merage is in the same county, ranked slightly higher, publishes its job rate and costs less for nonresidents, but admits only about a quarter of applicants. Chapman’s advantages are its entertainment and media focus and an easier path to admission.
