New York University Abu Dhabi is hiring an Associate or Full Professor of Management for Stern at NYUAD, the business school it runs with NYU Stern in New York. This NYU Abu Dhabi Stern professor of management job is a permanent, full-time tenured or tenure-track post in the United Arab Emirates. The closing date is 12 November 2026, but applications received before 2 November 2026 get full consideration, so the real target date is earlier than it looks.
This is a senior hire. The advert asks for established researchers in strategy, organizational behavior or organizational theory, with a record of publication in top journals and strong MBA-level teaching. It also says plainly that people without that record, or in the first years of their first academic job, should not apply. The salary is not stated; NYUAD promises a full compensation and benefits package instead. Here is everything the advert says, what the benefits include, and how to build an application that fits a research-heavy senior search.

What is Stern at NYUAD?
Stern at NYUAD is the business school NYU set up on its Abu Dhabi campus. It was formally inaugurated on 10 February 2025 with its first MBA class, according to Poets&Quants. That first cohort had 54 students from 25 countries with an average of five years’ work experience. The one-year, 54-credit full-time MBA is jointly conferred by NYU Stern and NYU Abu Dhabi, with modules in both Abu Dhabi and New York. An Executive MBA followed.
The school’s faculty page lists Rob Salomon as Dean (he is also Professor of International Management at NYU Stern), with Barbara Scheck as Vice Dean for Programs and Jeffrey Timmons as Vice Dean for Faculty. The page profiles 18 faculty, of whom 8 hold management titles. So the management group is real but still small, which explains why the advert wants a senior person to mentor junior colleagues and act as a research anchor.
NYU Abu Dhabi and the city
NYU Abu Dhabi is a degree-granting campus of New York University on Saadiyat Island. It is not ranked separately in the major world rankings; NYU as a whole is ranked. Abu Dhabi is the UAE capital, with no personal income tax on salaries, though you should check your own home country’s tax rules. Housing is the biggest living cost for expatriates, and NYUAD covers it through a housing allowance (more below).
What the job involves
- Research leadership: keep publishing in leading management journals and act as a senior research presence in a department that is still growing.
- Mentoring: guide junior faculty on research and career development.
- Teaching: teach at graduate and MBA level under what the advert calls a competitive teaching load.
- Department building: contribute to research leadership in the department.
The advert does not give a start date. Senior academic hires in this cycle usually start at the next academic year, but confirm this with Faculty Affairs.
Requirements
| Type | What the advert asks for |
|---|---|
| Essential | PhD in a management-related field, such as psychology, leadership, organizational behavior, organizational theory, economics or strategy |
| Essential | A demonstrated record of publication in top-tier journals |
| Essential | Demonstrated excellence in graduate or MBA-level teaching |
| Essential | Evidence of, or clear potential for, mentoring junior faculty and contributing to research leadership |
| Exclusion | Applicants without a substantial record of publication in leading journals will not be considered |
| Exclusion | People in the first years of their first academic appointment are asked not to apply |
One detail stands out in the document list. NYUAD asks for three representative publications, including at least one in a top-tier finance or economics journal. That is an odd fit for an organizational behavior candidate, and it may be carried over from a finance advert. Ask faculty.affairs@sternad.nyu.edu whether a top management journal paper counts before you build your pack around it.
Salary and benefits
NYUAD does not publish salaries. Its Compensation and Benefits guide says base pay is benchmarked against the UAE, GCC and US education and industry markets, with the exact figure in each contract. The guide lists these benefits for eligible staff:
| Benefit | What the guide says |
|---|---|
| Housing | Housing allowance for on-campus or Abu Dhabi city living |
| Transport | Allowance for local travel within the city |
| Relocation | Inbound allowance for those recruited from outside the UAE; repatriation support when you leave |
| Children’s schooling | Fees covered at recognised UAE schools from age 3 to grade 12, subject to a family cap |
| NYU tuition remission | Part of the tuition for eligible NYU courses for spouses and dependent children |
| Health | Medical, dental and vision plans, with family members eligible |
| Home leave | Monthly home leave travel allowance based on IATA rates |
| Retirement | Retirement plans in place of an end-of-service gratuity; non-US, non-GCC staff may be eligible for the International Pension Plan |
| Dual career | Eligible Dependent Career Support Program for job-search advice |
The advert itself mentions a relocation allowance, educational assistance for dependents, health and wellness services, and support for dual-career families. Neither the advert nor the benefits guide mentions visa sponsorship, though in the UAE the employer normally arranges the residence visa for foreign staff. Confirm this with Faculty Affairs.
How to apply for the NYU Abu Dhabi Stern professor of management job
- Prepare your CV: include a full list of publications.
- Write a cover letter: cover your research agenda, teaching and what you would bring to a growing department.
- Write a teaching statement: focus on MBA and graduate teaching.
- Gather teaching evaluations: add recent ones if you have them.
- Choose three representative publications: the advert asks that at least one appear in a top-tier finance or economics journal.
- Apply online: use the apply link on the Times Higher Education advert, which goes to NYUAD’s application system.
- Submit by 2 November 2026 if you can: that is the full consideration date. The final closing date is 12 November 2026.
Apply by 2 November
NYUAD gives full consideration only to applications received before 2 November 2026. You can still apply until 12 November, but late files may reach a committee that has already drawn up its list.
What the selection process looks like
The advert does not set out the stages. Senior tenured searches at US-style universities usually run like this: a search committee reviews files and reads your sample papers, then contacts referees. Shortlisted candidates give a research seminar, often called a job talk, and meet faculty and the dean. A tenured appointment then goes through a formal tenure review, which can take several months. Treat this as the general pattern, not NYUAD’s published process.
How to write the application
The cover letter
Keep it to about two pages.
- Who you are: current rank, institution and field.
- Research: your main contribution in two or three sentences, with your strongest journal placements.
- Teaching: MBA or executive courses you have taught and the evaluations behind them.
- Mentoring and leadership: junior colleagues or PhD students you have guided, and any research centre or seminar series you built.
- Why Stern at NYUAD: its MBA, its links to New York and the region, and how your research fits Gulf or global business questions.
Sample opening line, for illustration only: “I am a tenured Associate Professor of Organizational Behavior whose work on team decision-making appears in leading management journals, and I am applying to help build Stern at NYUAD’s research culture in its early years.” Replace every claim with your own record.
The teaching statement
Describe how you teach experienced MBA students, how you use cases or projects, and how you handle classes from many countries. Back it with evaluation scores where you have them.
Choosing your three publications
Pick papers that show range and current output. A sensible mix is your most cited paper, your strongest recent paper from the last three or four years, and one that fits the journal line in the advert. If a paper is co-authored, add one line in the cover letter on your share of the work. Committees at this level check whether your recent pipeline matches your past record, so a list of papers under review or revise-and-resubmit in your CV helps.
Teaching evaluations
The advert says “if available”, but at senior level a committee will expect them. Give course name, level (MBA, executive or PhD), class size and your score against the school average. If your current school doesn’t release numeric scores, include a peer observation report or a teaching award instead.
Questions to ask before you accept an offer
The benefits guide gives categories, not amounts, so you will only see real numbers in an offer. Ask about these before you sign:
- The base salary and how it is reviewed each year.
- The housing allowance amount, or whether you will be given on-campus housing.
- The school fee cap per child and which schools it covers.
- Research funds, a start-up package and conference travel, which the benefits guide does not mention.
- Teaching load in courses per year, and whether you will teach in New York as well.
- How tenure is assessed for a tenure-track appointment, and on what timeline.
- Which retirement plan you qualify for, given your nationality.
Common mistakes
- Applying as an early-career researcher. The advert rules this out directly.
- Sending sample papers without checking the finance or economics journal line first.
- Missing the 2 November full consideration date.
- Writing about undergraduate teaching only, when the job is graduate and MBA level.
- Forgetting the mentoring point. It is part of the role, and the cover letter should show it.
Who should apply and who shouldn’t
Apply if you are a tenured associate or full professor, or a very strong senior assistant professor close to tenure, in strategy, organizational behavior or organizational theory, with publications in leading journals and solid MBA teaching. Gulf-region experience is a plus but not required.
Don’t apply if you finished your PhD recently or are early in your first job; NYUAD says it will not consider you. Researchers in other social sciences without a management focus should look at other NYUAD posts. If you are earlier in your career and interested in the region, our guides to UAE scholarships and the Khalifa University scholarship cover graduate funding.
