The Istanbul Youth Summit 2027 is the 10th edition of a four-day youth conference in Istanbul, Türkiye, running from 25 to 28 January 2027. It is organised by Youth Break the Boundaries (YBB), an Indonesian youth foundation. Registration for fully funded places has closed, and the fully funded deadline is 15 October 2027, for the following edition. Self-funded registration is still open, and the official programme page gives 25 December 2026 as its last day.
Most people at this summit pay their own way. Self-funded delegates pay a USD 15 registration fee and then a programme fee in instalments. The fully funded track waived the programme fee for a limited number of people chosen by essay and interview, and YBB does not say how many. The official pages do not list flights or visas as covered. Here are the confirmed dates, fees, eligibility and the questions to ask before you pay.
Istanbul Youth Summit 2027: quick summary
- Edition: 10th Istanbul Youth Summit (IYS)
- Dates: 25 to 28 January 2027, in person in Istanbul
- Organiser: Youth Break the Boundaries (YBB) Foundation
- Theme: “Beyond a Decade: Youth Leading the Future Through Innovation, Inclusion, and Sustainable Impact”, with sub-themes on SDG 3 (health) and SDG 4 (education)
- Main activity: a social project competition in international teams
- Eligibility: ages 15 to 40, all nationalities and backgrounds, no IELTS or TOEFL
- Fully funded registration: closed (official window 20 June to 31 August 2026); deadline 15 October 2027
- Self-funded registration: open until 25 December 2026 according to the programme page
Some listing sites still give 25 to 27 January and an older theme taken from a previous edition. The official site now shows four days, 25 to 28 January 2027, and the “Beyond a Decade” theme.
Is the Istanbul Youth Summit 2027 fully funded?
Only for a small, unnamed number of people, and only for the programme fee. YBB says the fully funded slots are limited and competitive but gives no figure. The table compares what the official site says about each track.
| Self-funded | Fully funded | |
|---|---|---|
| Status (24 Oct 2026) | Open | Closed |
| Registration fee | USD 15 (IDR 277,500) | USD 10 (IDR 185,000) |
| Programme fee | You pay it in scheduled instalments; amount in the guidebook, not on the site | Waived if selected |
| Selection | No competition: form, documents and payments on time | Form, documents, essay and interview |
| Number of places | Not capped on the site | Not published |
| Extras listed | Mentoring sessions | Fully funded activities, a chance to moderate a panel, extra mentoring |
| Flights and visa | Not listed as covered | Not listed as covered |
Some listings say the fully funded track refunds return airfare after the programme and includes a five-star hotel. I could not find either claim on the official 2027 pages, which describe the benefit only as full programme fee coverage. Until the guidebook says otherwise in writing, budget for your own flight, visa and spending money.
Istanbul Youth Summit 2027 dates and deadlines
YBB posts its dates in Western Indonesia Time (WIB, GMT+7). Its pages do not all agree, so I show both versions where they differ.
| Stage | Announcement page | Programme page timeline |
|---|---|---|
| Fully funded registration | 20 June to 31 August 2026 | 20 June to 31 August 2026 |
| Self-funded registration | 20 June to 25 December 2026 | 1 July to 10 November 2026 (another box on the same page says 25 December) |
| Fully funded interview list | 15 to 25 October 2026 | 26 October to 5 November 2026 |
| Fully funded interviews | 26 October to 5 November 2026 | 10 to 20 November 2026 |
| Final fully funded result | 10 to 20 November 2026 | Not clearly stated |
| Self-funded acceptance letters (batch 3) | 5 September 2026 to 4 January 2027 | 15 to 25 October 2026, sent every Monday |
| Summit | 25 to 28 January 2027 | 25 to 28 January 2027 |
| Fully funded deadline | 15 October 2027, one year after the extended 2026 deadline (based on this year’s date; confirm on the official page when the call opens) | |
A later post on YBB’s social media said the fully funded deadline had been extended to 15 October 2026. Either way, that track has closed. If you want a self-funded seat, I would treat 10 November 2026 as the safe deadline, because one official timeline uses it.
Before you pay
Get the total programme fee, what it includes (hotel nights, meals, airport transfer) and the refund rules in writing from the official guidebook or YBB’s listed contacts. The site says self-funded applicants who are declined get a full refund; check what happens if you withdraw later.
Who can apply for the Istanbul Youth Summit?
- You are 15 to 40 years old.
- You hold any nationality and come from any field of study or work.
- You have no criminal record and no link to extremist organisations.
- You are willing to build a social project with an international team.
- No English test certificate is needed.
Under-18s should check the guidebook for parental consent rules before registering. You also need a passport valid well beyond January 2027 and a Turkish visa or e-Visa if your nationality requires one. Türkiye’s e-Visa portal shows whether you qualify, and if you do not, you will need a sticker visa from a Turkish mission.
What happens during the four days
| Day | Programme (official summary) |
|---|---|
| 25 January 2027 | Airport assistance, hotel check-in, welcome session |
| 26 January 2027 | City tour and university visit |
| 27 January 2027 | Project presentations, international symposium, awards and closing ceremony |
| 28 January 2027 | Certificate collection, check-out, airport transfer |
Third-party listings mention awards such as Best Project, Best Leader and Best Presenter. Mentoring sessions run online in the months before the summit.
How to register for the Istanbul Youth Summit 2027
- Read the guidelines: download the 10th IYS guidelines and the essay guideline from the official announcement page on istanbulyouthsummit.com.
- Create an account: register on istanbulyouthsummit.com and choose the self-funded track.
- Pay the USD 15 registration fee: through the payment options on the site.
- Submit the form and documents: self-funded applicants do not write an essay.
- Wait for your letter of acceptance: YBB says complete applications are reviewed within about a week.
- Pay the programme fee instalments by their deadlines: then book your flight and apply for your visa with the acceptance letter.
Getting ready for the summit step by step
Registration is only the first step for self-funded delegates. The weeks between acceptance and January are where most problems happen, usually with visas and payments. This is the order I would work in:
- Check your passport: make sure it is valid well past your return date and has blank pages.
- Check your visa route before paying anything: use Türkiye’s official e-Visa site to see whether your nationality qualifies. If you need a sticker visa, contact the nearest Turkish mission about processing times for January travel.
- Register and pay the USD 15 fee: only after you know you can get a visa in time.
- Save your acceptance letter as a PDF: you will need it for the visa application and possibly at the border.
- Pay each programme fee instalment on time: keep the receipts, and ask for written confirmation of what each instalment covers.
- Book a flight you can change: arrive on 25 January for check-in and leave on 28 January after the airport transfer.
- Join the online mentoring: work on your team’s social project before you travel, since presentations happen on 27 January.
How to write the fully funded essay for the next edition
Only fully funded applicants write an essay, and YBB sets the topic and length in a separate essay guideline published with each call. I could not find the 2027 essay topic outside that guideline, so I will not guess it. The 2027 theme and its health and education sub-themes give you a fair idea of what readers want: a youth-led idea that is practical, inclusive and measurable.
- Start with a real problem: one you have seen, in your school, town or online community.
- Link it to an SDG: name the goal and say why your problem belongs there.
- Propose something small and testable: a pilot you could run with a few people and a small budget.
- Show what you have already done: volunteering, a club, a project, even a failed attempt.
- Explain what you would bring to an international team: a skill, a perspective, a network.
A sample opening, for illustration only: “In my secondary school, girls in the science stream drop to half by the final year. Last term I started a weekly lunch-hour lab club for younger girls, and eleven came to the first session.” It names a problem, ties to education, and shows action. Write from your own experience; essays copied from templates are easy to spot in an interview.
Eligibility edge cases
- Under 18: you can register from age 15, but check the guidebook for parental consent and travel rules for minors before paying.
- Aged 40: the stated range is 15 to 40. If you turn 41 before the summit, ask YBB which date it uses to calculate age.
- Already living in Türkiye: nothing on the site excludes you, and you avoid the flight and visa costs.
- Visa refused: the site promises a full refund to self-funded applicants who are declined by YBB. It does not say the same for a visa refusal, so ask before you pay the programme fee.
What happens after you register
Self-funded applications do not compete. YBB says it reviews complete applications within about a week and sends acceptance letters in batches. You then pay the programme fee in instalments, join online mentoring and work with an international team on a social project. In Istanbul, teams present their projects on 27 January, followed by a symposium, awards and the closing ceremony, and certificates are collected on 28 January. For fully funded applicants in the next edition, the essay is followed by an interview list, interviews and a final result.
Costs to budget for
| Cost | Self-funded | Fully funded |
|---|---|---|
| Registration fee | USD 15 | USD 10 |
| Programme fee | Yes, in instalments (amount in the guidebook) | Waived |
| Return flight | You pay | Not listed as covered |
| Turkish visa or e-Visa | You pay | Not listed as covered |
| Travel insurance | You pay | Not listed as covered |
| Extra nights, meals outside the programme, spending money | You pay | You pay |
Common mistakes
- Reading “fully funded” in a headline and assuming flights and hotel are paid.
- Paying instalments before checking whether you can get a Turkish visa in time.
- Relying on the later 25 December date when another official timeline says 10 November.
- Paying through anyone other than the official site, or through an agent who promises a funded seat.
- Listing the certificate on a scholarship application as if it were an academic award.
Istanbul Youth Summit compared with similar programmes
| Programme | Where and when | Cost to you | Deadline |
|---|---|---|---|
| Istanbul Youth Summit | Istanbul, 25 to 28 January 2027 | USD 15 plus programme fee, flights and visa (self-funded) | Self-funded: 10 November 2026 to be safe |
| Japan Youth Summit | Osaka, 10 to 13 May 2027 | Same YBB fee model | Fully funded: 20 December 2026 |
| Millennium Fellowship | On your own campus, one semester | Free | Priority deadline 31 October 2026 |
| ICANN Fellowship Program | ICANN public meetings | Funded for selected fellows; see our guide | Per meeting; see our guide |
Who should apply, and is it worth it?
It is a networking and presentation event, not a scholarship or an academic programme. The certificate will not carry much weight with admissions committees on its own. It can help if you have a real project to present and you would travel to Istanbul anyway. If your budget is tight, I would put the flight money towards an application for a funded programme instead. Our post on the Japan Youth Summit, run by the same organiser, compares the same fee model.
I would go if you are between 15 and 40, can pay the programme fee, flight and visa without strain, can get a Turkish visa easily, and want practice presenting a project to an international audience. I would skip it if you were hoping for a free trip, if a visa is uncertain for your passport, or if the money would otherwise pay for application fees or tests for a degree scholarship.
FAQ on the Istanbul Youth Summit 2027
Can I still apply for the fully funded Istanbul Youth Summit?
No. Fully funded registration closed on 31 August 2026, or 15 October 2026 if you follow YBB’s extension post. Only self-funded registration is open now. The fully funded deadline is 15 October 2027, for the following edition.
How much is the Istanbul Youth Summit registration fee?
USD 15 for self-funded and USD 10 for fully funded. Self-funded delegates also pay a programme fee in instalments, and the amount is set out in the guidebook.
Does the Istanbul Youth Summit pay for flights?
The official 2027 pages do not list flights as covered for either track. Plan to pay your own airfare unless your acceptance letter says otherwise.
Do I need IELTS for the Istanbul Youth Summit?
No. YBB does not ask for an IELTS or TOEFL certificate from any applicant.
Sources and updates
Dates, fees, tracks, eligibility, the day-by-day programme and both timelines come from the official Istanbul Youth Summit site: its home page, the 2027 programme page, the fully funded registration page and the 10th edition announcement. The extension to 15 October 2026 comes from a post on YBB’s social media account. The University of Jember international office also circulated the 2027 call in July 2026. Information checked on 24 October 2026. The refund rule and the batch acceptance letters also come from the official site; the comparison figures come from our own guides to those programmes. I will update this post if YBB publishes the programme fee or corrects its timeline.
