UNIUYO Library and Information Science Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028

UNIUYO’s only published minimum for Library and Information Science is 150 in the UTME, with UNIUYO as first choice. See the safe target score, JAMB subjects and O’level rules, NUC status, screening and CAPS steps for 2027/2028.

The UNIUYO Library and Information Science cut off mark 2027/2028 candidates should plan with is 150 in the UTME, and only if UNIUYO is your first choice. That is the single minimum the University of Uyo published for its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening, and it applies to every course. UNIUYO does not publish a separate departmental cut-off for Library and Information Science, so the score that actually wins a place is higher and changes each year.

2027/2028 update: UNIUYO cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

On JAMB the course appears as Library Science for UNIUYO, while the university’s advert says Library and Information Science. Below are the official figures, a safe target score (my advice, clearly labelled), the JAMB subjects and O’level rules from the JAMB brochure, what NUC’s records show, how screening works, and the CAPS steps.

Any yearNot publishedA departmental or merit cut-off for Library and Information ScienceFigures on blogs are not from UNIUYO

The supplementary list is the most useful clue UNIUYO gives about demand. In 2023/2024 the university invited candidates who had not been admitted to their first-choice course to switch into a short list of programmes with “limited vacancies”, and Library and Information Science was on it. That tells you the course did not fill in the main round that year. It does not mean any score will do in 2027: vacancies depend on how many strong candidates choose the course, and that changes every year.

Several blogs print “UNIUYO departmental cut-off marks” with a figure for every course. I could not find a UNIUYO document behind any of them, so I don’t repeat those numbers here.

Safe target score for Library and Information Science at UNIUYO (my advice)

This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, based on the course’s popularity, the supplementary list and how federal universities usually fill places. It is not a UNIUYO rule.

Your UTME scoreMy read for UNIUYO Library and Information Science
Below 150Not eligible to screen at UNIUYO
150 to 159Eligible, but weak on merit; your realistic hope is a related course or a supplementary round
160 to 179Possible with strong O’level grades from one sitting
180 to 204Competitive
205 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 180, with credits at B3 or better in the subjects named for the course.

First choice and catchment

UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 notice opened screening only to candidates who chose UNIUYO first in the UTME (and, for Direct Entry, in JAMB DE). It says nothing about second-choice candidates, so don’t plan on that route. As a federal university, UNIUYO is expected to follow JAMB’s general admission guideline of merit, catchment and educationally less developed states, but it has not published its own split or catchment list, so I would not count on catchment to rescue a low score.

JAMB subject combination and O’level for Library and Information Science at UNIUYO

RequirementLibrary and Information Science at UNIUYO
UTME subjectsUse of English plus any three subjects
UNIUYO UTME remarkThere is no UNIUYO remark on the UTME line
My recommended UTME setEnglish, three subjects you are strongest in, for example Literature in English, Government and Economics, or Biology, Chemistry and Economics
O’level (JAMB general line)Five credits including English Language and Mathematics plus three other relevant arts, science or social science subjects
O’level (UNIUYO remark)No UNIUYO-specific remark, so the general line applies
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO, NABTEB or GCE
SittingsNot stated in UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 notice; one sitting is safer in a competitive pool

Library Science is one of the few UNIUYO courses where JAMB accepts any three UTME subjects with English. Use that freedom to pick the subjects that give you your best score. The NUC report that names UNIUYO calls the programme “Library and Information Science Education”, which suggests it is run as an education degree inside the vocational education faculty; UNIUYO has not published the degree title in the sources I reached.

These lines come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure, which I checked on 3 November 2026. JAMB’s own e-brochure on your profile is the final word, so read the UNIUYO remark there before you register for the 2027 UTME. Once you register, you cannot change your subjects.

Direct Entry into Library and Information Science at UNIUYO

  • JAMB’s general rule: Two A-level passes in relevant subjects plus the UTME requirements, or NCE merit in relevant subjects.
  • UNIUYO remark: The brochure has no UNIUYO Direct Entry remark for this course.
  • Screening: UNIUYO screened DE candidates who chose UNIUYO first in JAMB Direct Entry, alongside UTME candidates, in 2026/2027.

NUC accreditation: what the record shows

NUC’s accreditation report for Library and Information Science Education at the University of Uyo shows Full accreditation with a programme score of 91.2%. The panel visited in 28 to 30 November 2024. You can read the result on the NUC report page.

Full accreditation is NUC’s top grade and normally lasts five years before the next visit. For you as an applicant, it means the programme met NUC’s standards for staff, facilities and curriculum at the last check.

Note the name: NUC filed the report as “Library and Information Science Education”, while UNIUYO’s advert says Library and Information Science. That is normal where a department has updated its title.

Aggregate formulaNot published

Because UNIUYO does not publish its test format or formula, anyone who tells you exactly how Library and Information Science candidates are ranked is guessing. What you control is the size of your UTME score, the quality and number of your O’level sittings, and whether your documents are in order.

Worked example for a Library and Information Science candidate

Take Nkoyo, who scored 189 in the UTME with B3 in English, C4 in Mathematics, B3 in Literature, C4 in Government and B2 in CRS, one sitting.

  1. Eligibility: 189 minus 150 = 39. Nkoyo clears UNIUYO’s minimum by 39 marks.
  2. Against my safe target: 189 minus 180 = 9. Nkoyo is 9 marks above the score I would call competitive.
  3. O’level check: the right subjects are covered, so nothing in the brochure rules Nkoyo out.
  4. Illustration only: many Nigerian universities convert the UTME to a mark out of 50 by dividing by 8 and add a screening score out of 50. On that method Nkoyo’s UTME is worth 23.6 points. UNIUYO has not said it uses this method; I show it because it explains why every 8 UTME marks is worth one aggregate point.

Itoro scored 159. 159 minus 150 = 9, so Itoro can register for screening, but on the same illustrative method the UTME is worth 19.9 points, 3.8 behind Nkoyo before any screening score is added. Unless the course has vacancies late in the cycle, Itoro should keep an eye on CAPS for a transfer offer to a related course and be ready to accept it.

How to apply for Library and Information Science at UNIUYO, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Library and Information Science (listed on JAMB as “Library Science”), make UNIUYO your first choice, and register English with three subjects you are strongest in, for example Literature in English, Government and Economics, or Biology, Chemistry and Economics.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at an accredited CBT centre once your results are out. UNIUYO cannot admit you on CAPS without it.
  4. Create a screening account: when UNIUYO’s Post-UTME notice opens, go to admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng, create an account and verify it.
  5. Pay with Remita: generate the RRR on the portal and pay the screening fee (₦2,000 in 2026/2027, as reported).
  6. Complete the form and print: fill in your details, upload your documents in PDF, submit and print the Screening Exercise Slip.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status and then Access my CAPS. Accept the offer within the window JAMB allows (four weeks, per JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting).
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: UNIUYO did not publish its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Pay only through the UNIUYO portal and keep every receipt for clearance.

Warning

UNIUYO’s notice limited screening to candidates who chose UNIUYO first. If UNIUYO is your second choice, do a JAMB change of institution before the screening opens. Every genuine offer appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB says admissions outside CAPS are illegal, so never pay anyone for a “slot”.

JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for public universities; that date has now passed. UNIUYO is a federal university, so its main 2026/2027 round has closed under JAMB’s timetable, although late or supplementary offers can still show up on CAPS. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status, and JAMB change of institution covers moving UNIUYO to first choice.

Other routes into Library and Information Science at UNIUYO

Basic Studies (one year, no JAMB score)

UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 Basic Studies advert, signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Blossom E. Okorie, in May 2026, lists every degree course by faculty, including Library and Information Science. Basic Studies needs five credits including English and Mathematics plus three relevant subjects at not more than two sittings, and no JAMB score. Admission is usually through a CBT screening test, and students who pass can enter 200 level through JAMB Direct Entry if they meet the course criteria. The fee was printed as “N15,5000”, which I read as ₦15,500. Registration closed on 30 September 2026 and the main screening test was set for 27 October to 7 November 2026.

UNIUYO also runs a one-year Pre-Degree programme for science, agriculture and education courses (fee ₦10,500). Its advert contradicts itself on JAMB scores, so ask the admissions office before you rely on any figure from it.

Supplementary admission

In 2023/2024, UNIUYO let screened candidates who missed their first-choice course apply for a programme with vacancies, provided their UTME and O’level subjects matched the new course. The window ran from 28 September to 6 October 2023 on the e-portal. A 2025/2026 supplementary exercise was also reported. If Library and Information Science is not your first love but fits your subjects, this is where it can save your year.

Studying Library and Information Science at UNIUYO

Library and Information Science is in UNIUYO’s Faculty of Vocational Education, Library and Information Science. UNIUYO’s pages I reached do not state the degree title or length. Through the UTME, Nigerian education degrees normally take four years, and Direct Entry students usually start at 200 level. Graduates who want to teach register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN).

What you study

  • Cataloguing, classification and indexing
  • Reference services and information retrieval
  • Library automation, databases and digital libraries
  • Records and archives management
  • Information literacy and school library services
  • Practical attachment in a library and a final-year project

Careers

  • Librarian in schools, universities, public libraries and research institutes (after registration with the Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria)
  • Records, archives or documentation officer
  • Information or knowledge management roles in organisations
  • Digital content and database management
  • Postgraduate study in library and information science

Before you register, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts so your subjects and dates are right. If you are weighing UNIUYO against another federal university in the South-South, our UNICAL cut-off mark guide is a useful comparison.

Mistakes that cost Library and Information Science applicants a UNIUYO place

  • Looking for “Library and Information Science” on JAMB: UNIUYO’s JAMB entry is Library Science.
  • Choosing UTME subjects you are weak in: any three are accepted, so play to your strengths.
  • Treating 150 as an admission score: it only lets you register for screening.
  • UNIUYO as second choice: the 2026/2027 notice screened first-choice candidates only.
  • O’level not on CAPS: without it, UNIUYO cannot offer you admission.
  • Ignoring CAPS: an offer you do not accept in time can be lost, and a transfer offer to a related course needs a quick decision.

If your 2026 score was not enough, see what to do with your JAMB score and how JAMB change of course works.
