The Ritman University Biology cut off mark for 2027/2028 is, in practice, the JAMB national minimum of 150 for universities. Ritman University, a private university in Ikot Ekpene, Akwa Ibom State, has not published a separate cut-off for Biology: Ritman’s admissions page does not print a number. It only asks candidates to meet the UTME cut-off for their chosen course. The catch for Biology is that Ritman’s newest admission notice no longer lists a plain Biology degree.
2027/2028 update: Ritman cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They are based on JAMB’s 2026 national minimum, because Ritman has not published its own course cut-offs. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
JAMB still lists Biology for Ritman and NUC lists it with Full accreditation, but Ritman’s October 2025 notice shows two newer biology degrees instead: Animal and Environmental Biology, and Botany and Biotechnology. Below I explain how to register, the subjects, a safe target score, the CBT screening and the CAPS steps.
Ritman University Biology cut off mark 2027/2028 at a glance
| Item | Position | Source or status |
|---|---|---|
| Ritman’s own cut-off for Biology | Not published | Ritman admissions page (checked 3 November 2026) |
| JAMB minimum for universities | 150 | Official (JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| Safe target score | 160 to 180 | My advice, not a Ritman rule |
| Course name on JAMB’s list for Ritman | Biology | Myschool reprint of JAMB’s course list |
| Course name on Ritman’s own list | Not listed; Animal and Environmental Biology and Botany and Biotechnology appear instead | Ritman’s admission notice of 21 October 2025 |
| UTME subjects | Biology, Chemistry, Physics or Mathematics | JAMB brochure (Myschool reprint); no Ritman remark |
| Screening | CBT | Ritman admissions page |
| NUC status | Full, due 2028 | NUC accreditation results, 1990 to 2025 |
| 2026/2027 admission deadline (private universities) | 30 November 2026 | JAMB, via NAN (11 May 2026) |
Does Ritman still run a Biology degree?
Ritman’s official faculties page lists Biology among its older programmes, and NUC’s accreditation results show Ritman’s Biology with Full accreditation, due again in 2028. JAMB’s course list for Ritman also carries Biology.
Ritman’s admission notice of 21 October 2025, which sets out all 40 programmes, does not list a B.Sc. Biology. Under the Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences it lists B.Sc. Animal and Environmental Biology and B.Sc. Botany and Biotechnology. Ritman has not explained the change in any notice I found, so I cannot tell you whether Biology was split into these two or whether all three run.
Biology is the only biology course on JAMB’s list for Ritman, so that is the one to register. At screening, tell Ritman which of the two newer degrees you want, and ask the admissions office to confirm the name your degree will carry.
Ritman Biology cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | Not published | Ritman figure for Biology | Admissions page asks only for the course cut-off |
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | Official |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | Ritman minimum as summarised by a blog | Unofficial (Myschoolgist); no Ritman document cited |
Ritman’s admissions page still says, in its JUPEB section, that JUPEB suits candidates who scored below 140. That figure is an older JAMB floor. For 2026 JAMB set 150 as the minimum for universities, so I would not plan with 140 for Biology or any other Ritman course.
Safe target score for Biology at Ritman (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser. Ritman University does not publish merit lists or the lowest score it admitted, so the bands below are planning ranges.
| Your UTME score | My read for Biology at Ritman |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible for a university this session |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible. Admission is possible at a private university, but you have no margin |
| 160 to 179 | Comfortable for Biology at Ritman |
| 180 and above | Strong. You can also keep a federal or state university option open |
Biology and its newer forms are less crowded than Biochemistry or Microbiology at most private universities. For 2027 I would aim for 160 or more, ideally 180, with credits in Biology and Chemistry.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Biology at Ritman
| Requirement | Biology at Ritman |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects (JAMB brochure) | Use of English plus Biology, Chemistry and Physics or Mathematics |
| O’level (JAMB brochure) | Five credits including English Language, Biology, Chemistry and Mathematics or Physics |
| Ritman’s own O’level rule | Five credits in WAEC, NECO or GCE, including English Language and Mathematics, in no more than two sittings (Ritman admissions page) |
| Special Ritman remark on JAMB’s page | None listed |
| Awaiting result | Ritman has not published a rule; upload results to CAPS as soon as they are out |
JAMB’s general O’level line for Biology accepts Mathematics or Physics as the fifth subject, but Ritman’s own rule requires English and Mathematics for every course. In practice you need English, Mathematics, Biology and Chemistry, plus Physics or another science.
Direct Entry into Biology
JAMB’s brochure line for Direct Entry: two A-level passes from Chemistry, Biology, Botany or Zoology; an NCE merit is also accepted. Ritman’s own rule: five O’level credits including English and Mathematics (two sittings at most), plus OND, NCE, IJMB or A-level for 200 level entry (Ritman admissions page). Register Direct Entry with JAMB, not only on the Ritman portal; a DE offer still has to appear on CAPS.
How Ritman screening works for Biology
Ritman screens UTME and Direct Entry candidates with a computer-based test (CBT). Candidates apply online at applicant.safapply.com/ritmanuniversity, sit the test, and those offered admission then go through an ICT training and orientation programme. The admissions page warns that false entries on the online form can lead to disqualification. Ritman has not published the CBT’s subjects, length or pass mark.
A 2025/2026 blog summary (Myschoolgist) said the form and screening cost ₦10,000 and that candidates brought a passport photograph, their JAMB result slip and the payment evidence to an aptitude test. Ritman has not confirmed that amount on any page I could open, so confirm it on the portal before paying.
Worked example for a Biology candidate
Ritman has not published how it weighs the UTME against its CBT. Many Nigerian universities convert both to a score out of 100 by dividing the UTME by 8 (up to 50 marks) and scaling the screening test to 50. I use that method below only as an illustration; it is not a Ritman formula.
- UTME: Uduak scored 171. 171 divided by 8 = 21.38 out of 50.
- CBT: suppose Uduak scores 62% on Ritman’s test. Half of that is 31.0 out of 50.
- Illustrative aggregate: 21.38 + 31.0 = 52.38 out of 100.
- Margin over the floor: 171 minus 150 = 21 marks above JAMB’s minimum, and 11 marks above my safe target of 160.
- What I would advise: she is comfortably eligible. She should register Biology on JAMB and say at screening whether she wants Animal and Environmental Biology or Botany and Biotechnology.
Admission odds for Biology at Ritman
A score of 160 or above, the right O’level subjects and a fair CBT result should be enough for a biology place at Ritman. The bigger risk is confusion over the course name, so settle that with Ritman before you accept on CAPS.
- Choose Ritman first: Ritman also accepts candidates through a JAMB change of institution, according to its October 2025 notice.
- Upload O’level early: no university can give you admission on CAPS without your results there.
- Apply before the private-university deadline: JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for private universities, so the 2026/2027 exercise runs until that date.
- Keep a second option: if you also hold a strong score, apply to a public university in the next cycle as well.
How to apply for Biology at Ritman, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with the right subjects: Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics (or Mathematics), under the course name Biology, with Ritman University as your first choice. Ritman also takes change of institution candidates.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your results are out. Check that the grades show correctly.
- Apply on the Ritman portal: applicant.safapply.com/ritmanuniversity. Fill the form with the same names as on your JAMB and O’level records.
- Sit the CBT screening: bring what the portal asks for, which blogs say includes your JAMB slip and a passport photograph.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept the offer and print your JAMB admission letter. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each CAPS status.
- Pay acceptance and register: pay only through the invoice the portal generates, then complete clearance and the ICT orientation.
Note
Ritman’s newest programme list shows Animal and Environmental Biology and Botany and Biotechnology instead of a plain Biology degree. Register Biology on JAMB, then confirm with Ritman in writing which degree you are being admitted into before you pay acceptance.
Fees for Biology at Ritman
Ritman’s Pay Fees page carries a revised fee schedule for the 2024/2025 session, posted as two images. I could not read the amounts from it, and no 2026/2027 schedule was published there when I checked. Ask the admissions office (info@ritmanuniversity.edu.ng) for the current Biology tuition before you accept an offer.
Studying Biology at Ritman
Biology and the two newer biology degrees sit in Ritman’s Faculty of Natural and Applied Sciences. A B.Sc. in a biological science normally runs for four years in Nigeria.
About Ritman University
Ritman University is a private university on Umuahia Road, Ikot Ekpene. NUC licensed it on 5 March 2015 and teaching began in November 2015. Its vice-chancellor since 2 October 2025 is Prof. Akan B. Williams. Its news post of 6 October 2026 says NUC has approved 22 new programmes, taking Ritman from 3 faculties to 6 (Allied Health Sciences, Computing, Environmental Sciences, Natural and Applied Sciences, Arts and Humanities, and Social and Management Sciences) and to 40 programmes in all. That post does not date the approvals, and Ritman’s admission notice of 21 October 2025 already listed 40 NUC-approved programmes, so they were in place by late 2025. The same news post reports Full NUC accreditation for English, History and International Studies, and Industrial Chemistry. For a family weighing Ritman, that means a small, growing campus where many departments are new.
What you study
- Cell biology, genetics and evolution
- Plant and animal diversity, physiology and ecology
- Microbiology and biotechnology basics
- Field work and laboratory techniques
- Environmental biology, a final-year project and industrial training
Accreditation
NUC’s Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025 list Ritman’s Biology as Full, with the next accreditation due in 2028. The two newer degrees, Animal and Environmental Biology and Botany and Biotechnology, do not appear separately in that list, which runs to 2025.
Full accreditation means the programme met NUC’s standards at its last visit, so the degree is recognised for NYSC and further study. Programmes are re-visited when the period runs out.
Careers
Biology graduates teach, work in environmental and conservation agencies, oil and gas environmental monitoring, agriculture and fisheries, research and diagnostic laboratories, and the food and pharmaceutical industries. A master’s in ecology, biotechnology or public health widens the options.

Mistakes that cost Biology applicants a place
- Searching JAMB for a course Ritman lists but JAMB does not: register Biology, the name JAMB holds for Ritman.
- Treating 150 as a guarantee: it only makes you eligible.
- O’level not on CAPS: without it, no offer can be made.
- Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: acceptance fee, clearance and registration at Ritman are separate steps.
If you are writing the UTME again in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and, if you chose another school, how to do a JAMB change of institution.
