The Obong University cut off mark for Banking and Finance 2027/2028 is 150 in the UTME, which is JAMB’s national minimum for universities. Obong University has not published its own cut-off for Banking and Finance or for any other course in a source I could find. A figure of 140 appears on at least one admissions blog, but 140 is below JAMB’s 2026 floor of 150, so a score between 140 and 149 cannot be admitted into any Nigerian university this cycle.
2027/2028 update: Obong University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Banking and Finance is one of 20 courses on JAMB’s list for Obong University. The course list in the 2026/2027 screening form post is shorter, and Banking and Finance is not on it. Below is what that means for you, plus the cut-off position, subject rules and alternatives.
Check before you choose
Banking and Finance is on JAMB’s course list for Obong University, but it is missing from the 15 courses listed in the 2026/2027 Obong form post, and NUC’s accreditation results have no Obong Banking and Finance row. It may not be running. Ask Obong in writing whether it admits into Banking and Finance before you choose it on JAMB.

Obong University Banking and Finance cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | JAMB minimum for all universities | Official (JAMB) |
| 2026/2027 (as labelled) | 140 | Cut-off quoted by o3schools | Unofficial; below JAMB’s minimum |
| 2025/2026 | Not found | A blog headline claims Obong approved departmental cut-offs; the article shows no figures | Unconfirmed |
Private universities often admit close to JAMB’s minimum because they receive fewer applicants than state and federal universities. That is a general pattern, not an Obong statistic. Obong has not released a merit list or departmental figures I could verify.
Safe target score for Banking and Finance at Obong University (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not an Obong rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for Obong Banking and Finance |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not admissible anywhere in Nigeria this cycle |
| 150 to 169 | Eligible; likely enough at a small private university if your O’level is complete |
| 170 to 199 | Comfortable |
| 200 and above | Strong. You may also qualify for merit awards where a university offers them; ask Obong. |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 170. If Obong confirms the course, competition at a small private university should be modest.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Obong University Banking and Finance
| Requirement | Banking and Finance (JAMB brochure, Myschool reprint, and Obong blog notes) |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English plus Mathematics, one Social Science subject and any other subject |
| O’level | Five credits including English Language, Mathematics, Economics and two other relevant subjects |
| Sittings | Not more than two (o3schools blog) |
| Direct Entry (brochure) | Two A-level passes in Accounting or Economics and one other subject; NCE merit, ND credit and some professional foundation exams are also listed |
| Direct Entry (Obong, per blog) | Five O’level credits plus two A-level passes, or NCE, A-level, OND or HND at credit or merit, or a good first degree; entry at 200 level |
| Obong-specific remark in the brochure | None |
The brochure line is open: Mathematics, one Social Science subject and any other subject. Register Mathematics, Economics and Government, because that also qualifies you for Accounting, Economics and Business Administration, which Obong does list. At O’level, English, Mathematics and Economics are all named.
I checked the subject lines on the Myschool brochure page for Banking and Finance on 3 November 2026. That is a reprint, so confirm them on JAMB’s own e-brochure when you register.
Direct Entry and JUPEB at Obong
Direct Entry candidates join at 200 level. The routes in the blog notes are wide: A-level passes, NCE, OND or HND at credit or merit, or a good first degree, always on top of five O’level credits. o3schools also carries a separate post on an Obong JUPEB form for 2026/2027. JUPEB is a one-year foundation programme whose results are used for Direct Entry into 200 level at participating universities. The JUPEB fee, subject combinations and dates at Obong were not in any source I could open, so ask the university before you pay.
Who Obong Banking and Finance suits
- Candidates with 150 to 190 who want a smaller university close to home in Akwa Ibom
- Students who prefer a church-run campus and can afford private university fees
- Direct Entry and JUPEB candidates who want a clear path to 200 level
- It suits you less if you need the lowest possible fees, since private tuition is usually higher than at AKSU or UNIUYO
How admission into Obong University works
Obong’s own admission notice was not reachable in this session. The process below is what the o3schools post of 4 February 2026 describes, and I would treat the fee and the method as things to confirm with the university.
| Detail | What is reported |
|---|---|
| Routes | UTME (100 level), Direct Entry (200 level), inter-university transfer; JUPEB is also advertised |
| Form fee | ₦10,000, paid at a bank (unconfirmed) |
| How to get the form | Pay, then collect the form at a selling point, or download it from the university website and submit online |
| Results | Successful names are posted on the university website |
| Screening test | Not described |
| Closing date | Not given |
The blog also lists bank account numbers. I have left them out because I could not check them against an Obong source, and an allschool.ng headline reports that Obong has warned applicants about a fake form scam. Get payment details from obonguniversity.edu.ng or the admissions office directly.
Worked example for an Obong Banking and Finance candidate
Obong has not published an aggregate formula, so the useful sum is your distance from 150 and from my safe target.
- Score: Imaobong scored 172. 172 minus 150 = 22, so the JAMB minimum is cleared.
- Against my safe target: 172 is at or above 170, so this is a comfortable position.
- O’level check: credits in English, Mathematics, Economics, Commerce and Government at one sitting. Nothing rules her out.
- What I would advise: get written confirmation that Obong admits into Banking and Finance; if not, choose Accounting or Business Administration with the same subjects.
Uduak scored 181 and listed Banking and Finance at Obong. If Obong is not running the course, CAPS may show a transfer offer to Accounting or Economics. Accepting it keeps his place this cycle.
How to apply for Banking and Finance at Obong University, step by step
- Get your profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME: choose Banking and Finance with Mathematics, Economics and Government. Obong does not appear to require first choice in the blog notes, but listing it first makes CAPS simpler. To switch later, use JAMB change of institution.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre. No university can admit you without it.
- Buy the Obong form: get the current fee and payment channel from the university, not from a third party.
- Submit and keep copies: fill the form, attach your UTME result slip and O’level, and keep the receipt and acknowledgement.
- Watch the website and CAPS: Obong posts successful names online, and the offer must also appear on JAMB CAPS.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status and then Access my CAPS. JAMB allows four weeks to accept.
- Pay acceptance and fees: Obong’s current fees were not in any source I reached. Ask for the official fee schedule before paying.
JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the 2026/2027 admission deadline for private universities, so Obong’s window for this cycle runs until 30 November 2026. JAMB has also said that admissions outside CAPS are illegal, so an Obong admission letter without a CAPS offer is not complete. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
Studying Banking and Finance at Obong University
Obong University is a private university at Obong Ntak, Etim Ekpo LGA, Akwa Ibom State, run by the Churches of Christ. If Obong runs Banking and Finance, it would sit in the Faculty of Management and Social Sciences. A B.Sc. Banking and Finance usually runs for four years in Nigeria.

There is no Banking and Finance row. That does not prove the course is closed, but it means I cannot confirm its status.

Mistakes that cost Obong applicants a place
- Choosing the course without confirmation: it is missing from Obong’s 2026/2027 list in the form post.
- No Mathematics credit: the brochure and blog notes both require it.
- Trusting the 140 figure: JAMB’s minimum for universities is 150.
- Paying into an account from a blog: confirm payment details with Obong directly.
- No O’level on CAPS: CAPS cannot process your admission without it.
- Missing the CAPS acceptance: the university list alone does not complete admission.
Within Obong, Accounting and Business Administration take the same subjects and are on its current list. Elsewhere in Akwa Ibom, AKSU runs Banking and Finance and the University of Uyo runs Banking and Finance.

Sources and updates
The 150 national minimum, the 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities, the four-week CAPS window and the rule against admissions outside CAPS come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The 140 figure, the ₦10,000 form fee, the course list by faculty, the sitting rule, Direct Entry routes and the application method come from the o3schools post on the Obong screening form (4 February 2026), which cites no Obong notice. NUC statuses are from the NUC Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025, published in September 2026. The JAMB course list for Obong is from Myschool’s reprint, and subject requirements from the Myschool JAMB brochure page (both checked 3 November 2026). Background on the university is from Wikipedia. Safe target scores and the worked example are my advice. Checked on 3 November 2026; this page will be updated when Obong publishes an official cut-off or admission notice.
