The Clifford University cut-off mark for Law is 150 in the UTME, the general figure Clifford University, Owerrinta gives for all courses on its 2026/2027 admission notice. Before you plan around that number, you need one fact: Clifford is not on the Council of Legal Education’s list of universities approved to admit LL.B. students, as published on 14 August 2026. Graduates of a Law programme the Council has not approved cannot go to the Nigerian Law School, so they cannot be called to the Nigerian Bar.
2027/2028 update: Clifford University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Clifford does advertise an LL.B., publishes Law entry requirements and fees, and appears with Law on JAMB’s course list. This page sets out those requirements as Clifford states them, explains why the Council’s approval matters more than the cut-off, and lists the Abia State universities that are approved for Law.
Warning
Clifford University is not on the Council of Legal Education’s approved list for the LL.B. programme. The Council says students admitted into Law at universities without its approval will not be eligible for the Nigerian Law School. Do not accept a Clifford Law offer or pay Law fees until Clifford’s name appears on a current Council list.

Clifford University is the private Seventh-day Adventist university at Ihie, near Owerrinta in Abia State. Its 2026/2027 notice says admission is in progress and the JAMB cut-off is 150. For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities.
Is Law at Clifford University approved?
Three separate bodies have a say in a Nigerian Law degree, and each one tells you something different about Clifford.
| Body | What it controls | Clifford’s position |
|---|---|---|
| Council of Legal Education | Which universities may admit LL.B. students whose graduates can enter the Nigerian Law School | Not on the approved list as at August 2026 |
| National Universities Commission | Academic accreditation of the degree | Interim accreditation, maturing 2027 |
| JAMB | Which course names candidates can choose for each university | Law appears on Clifford’s JAMB course list |
The Council’s list is the one that decides your career. Its public notice of 14 August 2026, signed by the Secretary to the Council, names 122 universities approved to admit LL.B. students, and Clifford is not among them. The same notice warns that a university admitting Law students without approval faces sanctions, and that students admitted that way cannot attend the Nigerian Law School.
Seeing Law on JAMB’s list for Clifford does not change this. JAMB lists the courses an institution runs; the Council’s approval is a separate step. JAMB has acted on the Council’s decisions before: in January 2025 it said it would not approve 2025/2026 Law admissions at eight universities whose LL.B. programmes the Council had suspended. Clifford was not one of them, but the case shows that an offer can be blocked when the Council has not cleared a Law programme.
Clifford’s own story is consistent with this. A convocation report on allAfrica in October 2024 said the Law programme was awaiting the Council’s accreditation, and the NUC’s September 2026 results show Law at Clifford with interim (not full) accreditation. If the Council later adds Clifford, it will appear on a new list, and this page will be updated.
Clifford Law cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Clifford general cut-off, equal to the JAMB minimum | Official: Clifford homepage and JAMB 2026 policy meeting |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | JAMB national minimum for universities | JAMB 2025 policy meeting |
| Any session | None | A Clifford cut-off for Law alone | Never published in any source I reached |
An October 2025 blog post said Clifford screens candidates with 130 or more who did not choose it first. It predates the 2026 UTME, cites no Clifford notice and is below the 150 Clifford now states. Clifford is also absent from News Central’s full list of cut-offs declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting.
What score should a Law candidate aim for?
At Clifford, 150 makes you eligible on paper, but I would not apply there for Law while it lacks Council approval. Approved Law faculties in the South East receive far more applicants than they have places, because the Council sets a quota for each faculty. If you want Law at an approved university, aim for 220 or more in the 2027 UTME, and higher for a public university. That is my advice, not a published cut-off.
Clifford Law requirements: subject combination, O’level and Direct Entry
Unlike most Clifford courses, Law has a full entry on Clifford’s undergraduate requirements page, under “Faculty of Law (LL.B)”. Clifford’s rules differ from JAMB’s usual Law combination on one point: Mathematics.
| Requirement | Clifford’s stated rule | JAMB’s usual rule |
|---|---|---|
| UTME subjects | English Language, Mathematics, Literature in English and any other Arts or Social Science subject | Use of English, Literature in English and two other Arts or Social Science subjects (confirm on the e-brochure) |
| O’level | Five credits in not more than two sittings, including English Language, Mathematics, Literature in English and one other Arts or Social Science subject | Five credits including English Language and Literature in English; most Law faculties also want a Mathematics credit |
| UTME score | “An acceptable level of performance”, as the university decides | At least 150 for universities |
| Screening | Successful performance at all levels of Clifford’s Post UTME and admission screening | Set by each university |
| Direct Entry | A two- or three-year diploma with credit passes in three papers, or A-level (HSC or GCE principal) passes, with the O’level credits | Set out in JAMB’s brochure; confirm there |
I could not open JAMB’s current Law page this session, so treat the right-hand column as JAMB’s usual combination and check it on the JAMB e-brochure. If you write Literature in English, Government and CRS or History, you fit JAMB’s usual rule for Law at almost any approved university. Clifford’s own page puts Mathematics among the UTME subjects, which few Law faculties ask for, so a candidate who still wants Clifford should get its answer in writing.
Direct Entry candidates at Clifford start at 200 level and write a screening test unless they hold JUPEB, according to Clifford’s Transfer and Direct Entry page. A diploma holder admitted into an unapproved Law programme faces the same Law School barrier as a UTME candidate.
Clifford Post-UTME screening for Law
Clifford’s Law requirements say candidates must perform successfully at all levels of the CLU Post UTME and admission screening, so a Post-UTME exists for Law. Clifford has not published its date, fee, format or pass mark in any source I reached. Applications for all courses go through soap.clifforduni.edu.ng.
Worked example (illustrative only)
Clifford publishes no aggregate formula. To show how a 50:50 method common at Nigerian universities works (UTME score divided by 8, plus half the screening percentage), here are two candidates. The method is my illustration, not Clifford’s.
- Obinna: UTME 232 and 64% at screening. 232 divided by 8 is 29; half of 64 is 32. His illustrative aggregate is 61.
- Chiamaka: UTME 210 (26.25) and 80% at screening (40). Her aggregate is 66.25, ahead of Obinna.
- The Clifford question: both clear Clifford’s 150 easily. Neither should take a Clifford Law place while it lacks Council approval, because neither score would get them into the Nigerian Law School from an unapproved programme.
- A better use of the score: both are in a reasonable range for Law at an approved private university, and Chiamaka’s screening shows why preparing for the Post-UTME pays.
Clifford University Law school fees
Clifford’s fees page, “Approved school fees for 2026/2027 academic session”, lists Law at N1,740,000, the joint highest with Nursing. The acceptance fee is N150,000 and the 100-level matriculation fee N50,000, so a first-year Law student would need N1,940,000 before hostel, feeding and books. Over a five-year LL.B., that is a large sum to spend on a degree that, without Council approval, does not lead to the Bar.
| Item | Amount (2026/2027) | Who pays |
|---|---|---|
| Acceptance fee | N150,000 | New students, once |
| Matriculation fee | N50,000 | 100 level only |
| Law programme amount | N1,740,000 | Each session |
Approved alternatives for Law in Abia State
Five universities in Abia State are on the Council of Legal Education’s August 2026 list:
| University | Location | Type |
|---|---|---|
| Abia State University | Uturu | State |
| Amadeus University | Amizi | Private |
| Gregory University | Uturu | Private |
| Lux Mundi University | Umuahia | Private |
| Nigerian-British University | Asa | Private |
Our guides to the ABSU cut-off mark for Law, the Lux Mundi University cut-off mark for Law and the Nigerian-British University cut-off mark for Law cover their requirements. If you are set on Clifford itself, its Social Justice programme is a fully accredited B.Sc. with a rights and justice focus, though it does not lead to the Bar either. Political Science and International Relations are other options there.
How to choose and apply for Law the safe way
- Check the Council’s list first: before you register, confirm your chosen university is on the Council of Legal Education’s latest approved list for the LL.B.
- Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
- Register for the UTME: choose Law at an approved university, with Use of English, Literature in English and two other Arts or Social Science subjects. If you already picked Clifford for Law, use a JAMB change of institution or a change of course.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre. No university can offer you admission without it.
- Apply for the university’s Post-UTME: on its official portal only, and keep your printout.
- Accept on CAPS: on efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave four weeks to accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance only after checking: confirm the offer on CAPS and the university’s Council status, then pay into the official account. Clifford has publicly warned that people pose as its staff, and the same trick is used across many schools.
Studying Law in Nigeria: what an approved LL.B. leads to
The LL.B. in Nigeria normally runs five years from 100 level. Students take core courses such as constitutional law, contract, criminal law, torts, land law, equity and trusts, commercial law, evidence and jurisprudence, then a long essay in the final year. Graduates of an approved programme spend a year at the Nigerian Law School and are then called to the Bar. Without that call, a Law graduate cannot practise as a lawyer, though the degree still helps in compliance, banking, human resources and policy jobs.
Mistakes Law applicants make
- Trusting the JAMB list alone: it shows a course is listed, not that the Council has approved it.
- Checking an old Council list: use the latest notice; the August 2026 list is current at the time of writing.
- Leaving out Literature in English: it is the subject almost every Law faculty names.
- Aiming for 150: it is the floor, and approved Law faculties fill far above it.
- Paying before checking: fees for an unapproved Law programme cannot buy you a Law School place.

Clifford University cut-off mark for Law: frequently asked questions
What is Clifford University cut-off mark for Law? Clifford’s general cut-off for 2026/2027 is 150, with no separate Law figure. Clifford is not on the Council of Legal Education’s approved Law list, so I advise against applying there for Law.
Is Clifford University Law accredited by the Council of Legal Education? No. Clifford is not among the 122 universities on the Council’s list of 14 August 2026. The NUC shows the programme with interim accreditation maturing in 2027.
Can a Clifford Law graduate go to Law School? Not while the programme lacks Council approval. The Council’s notice says students admitted into Law at universities without its approval are not eligible for the Nigerian Law School.
Which universities in Abia State are approved for Law? Abia State University, Amadeus University, Gregory University, Lux Mundi University and Nigerian-British University are on the August 2026 list.
Sources and updates
Council approval status is from the Council of Legal Education and Nigerian Law School public notice “List of updated universities approved by the Council of Legal Education to admit students into the LL.B programme in Nigeria as at August 2026” (14 August 2026, 122 universities), read in the copy published by TheNigeriaLawyer; Clifford does not appear, and the five Abia universities are listed. NUC interim accreditation (maturing 2027) is from the NUC publication “Accreditation Results 1990 to 2025” (September 2026). Clifford’s Law requirements are from its undergraduate admission requirements page (checked 29 October 2026). The general cut-off of 150 and admission notice are from the Clifford University homepage, and fees from Clifford’s approved fees page for 2026/2027. Law on Clifford’s JAMB course list is from Myschool’s reprint of that list. The “awaiting accreditation” report is from allAfrica (9 October 2024), and the January 2025 Law suspensions from Channels Television. The national minimum of 150, the 30 November 2026 deadline for private universities and the four-week CAPS window are from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). JAMB’s usual Law combination is given as general guidance because the current brochure page could not be opened; confirm it on JAMB’s e-brochure. The target score and worked example are my own advice. Checked on 29 October 2026; this page will be updated if the Council approves Clifford’s Law programme.
