Clifford University Guidance and Counselling Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

Clifford University’s cut-off for Guidance and Counselling is the 150 it sets for every course, and the programme has full NUC accreditation. See the JAMB course name, subject combination, O’level, Direct Entry, screening, the N819,000 fee and CAPS steps.

The Clifford University Guidance and Counselling cut-off mark is 150 in the UTME. Clifford University, Owerrinta states 150 as its general JAMB cut-off on its 2026/2027 admission notice, which matches JAMB’s minimum for universities, and it has not published a higher figure for Guidance and Counselling. The course sits in Clifford’s Faculty of Education and is one of the eight programmes the university announced in 2023 as fully accredited by the NUC.

2027/2028 update: Clifford University cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Clifford’s requirements page names Guidance and Counselling but gives no entry rules for it, so the subject rules on this page come from JAMB’s brochure, and I point out where Clifford has not confirmed something. You will also find the exact course name to pick on your JAMB form, a safe target score (my advice), Direct Entry, screening, the 2026/2027 fees and the CAPS steps.

This is Clifford University, the private Seventh-day Adventist university at Ihie, near Owerrinta in Abia State. Its 2026/2027 notice says admission is in progress, the JAMB cut-off is 150, and students come in by UTME, Direct Entry or transfer. For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 30 November 2026 as the admission deadline for private universities such as Clifford.

You may see a blog post from October 2025 saying Clifford screens candidates with 130 or more who did not pick it as first choice. It came out before the 2026 UTME, cites no Clifford notice, and sits below the 150 Clifford now states on its own homepage. I would not plan around 130. News Central also printed the full list of cut-offs institutions declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, and Clifford is not on it, so there is no separate policy-meeting figure to quote.

Safe target score for Guidance and Counselling at Clifford (my advice)

Education courses at private universities rarely fill up the way Nursing or Law do, and Clifford has one cut-off for every course. In practice your O’level and how early you apply will matter as much as a few extra UTME marks. The bands below are my own reading. Clifford has published none.

Your UTME scoreMy read for Clifford Guidance and Counselling
Below 150Not eligible for any Clifford degree course
150 to 159Eligible; clean O’level credits and an early application matter most
160 to 179Good chance
180 and aboveStrong

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for 160 or more. That gives you a cushion if Clifford sets a screening test and weighs the result with your UTME score.

JAMB subject combination and O’level for Clifford Guidance and Counselling

On Clifford’s undergraduate requirements page, Guidance and Counselling appears under the Faculty of Education, but its link opens nothing. JAMB’s brochure has an entry for the course, and Myschool’s reprint of JAMB’s course list for Clifford includes it, so plan with JAMB’s rules. The brochure has no remark for Clifford on this course.

RequirementWhat appliesSource

Direct Entry (JAMB)A-level or NCE passes in two subjects, plus the UTME O’level requirementsJAMB brochure

“Any three subjects” gives you room, but I would still choose with the course in mind. A good set is Use of English, Biology, Government or Economics, and Christian Religious Studies. Biology supports the psychology you will meet in the course, and several universities that name subjects for Guidance and Counselling ask for it. If your strengths are elsewhere, any three subjects you passed well in school will satisfy JAMB.

On the O’level side, JAMB’s general rule asks only for a pass in Mathematics. Clifford asks for a Mathematics credit in several of its Arts courses, so I would treat a credit as the safe standard until the department says otherwise. Your other credits can come from Biology, Economics, Government, CRS, Civic Education or Literature in English.

The NCE exemption does not cover this degree

After JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting, candidates for the NCE at colleges of education were excused from sitting the UTME. That exemption is for NCE programmes. Guidance and Counselling at Clifford is a university degree, so you still write the UTME and need at least 150.

Direct Entry into Guidance and Counselling at Clifford

JAMB accepts A-level or NCE passes in two subjects, with the O’level credits above. NCE holders are the usual Direct Entry group for education degrees. Clifford has published no Guidance and Counselling rule of its own, so its general Transfer and Direct Entry page applies:

  • Direct Entry students start at 200 level.
  • Every Direct Entry candidate writes Clifford’s screening test, except JUPEB candidates.
  • A complete transcript or statement of result is required before admission.
  • GST courses stay compulsory, with no whole-session exemptions.

If you hold an NCE, ask the admissions office which grade they accept (merit or credit) before you buy a Direct Entry form. Clifford has not put that in writing for this course.

Clifford Post-UTME screening for Guidance and Counselling

Clifford has not published a screening date, form fee or test format for this course in any source I could reach. Two things are confirmed on its own pages: the requirements page tells applicants to come in through Post UTME or Direct Entry, and the Transfer and Direct Entry page says every Direct Entry candidate writes a university screening test unless they hold JUPEB. You apply on the portal at soap.clifforduni.edu.ng.

The October 2025 blog post also said the form was free and that an aptitude test date would follow. Neither claim is on Clifford’s website, so call the admissions office before you pay anyone for a form.

Worked example (illustrative only)

Clifford publishes no aggregate formula. The example below measures each candidate against the 150 floor and my target. Where a test is involved, it borrows the 50:50 method many Nigerian universities use (UTME score divided by 8, plus half the screening percentage). That method is my illustration, not Clifford’s.

  1. Adaeze: UTME 163, credits in English, Mathematics, Biology, Economics and CRS in one sitting. She is 13 above the floor and 3 above my target.
  2. If there is a test: Adaeze scores 62%. 163 divided by 8 is 20.375; half of 62 is 31. Her illustrative aggregate is 51.375.
  3. Kelechi: UTME 152 (19) and 76% at screening (38). His aggregate is 57, ahead of Adaeze even with 11 fewer UTME marks.
  4. Ifeoma: UTME 185, but her English credit came in a third sitting. Clifford accepts results from not more than two sittings, so she needs to fix that before applying.

If a test is set, expect English, general knowledge and reasoning questions. Revise your UTME subjects as well; the JAMB Biology syllabus is a good outline if Biology is one of yours.

Clifford University Guidance and Counselling school fees and acceptance fee

Clifford posts its fees by programme on its website under “Approved school fees for 2026/2027 academic session”. Guidance and Counselling is listed at N819,000, the same as Computer Education. The page labels each figure only as “amount”, so treat it as the yearly charge for the course and ask the bursary what it covers, especially hostel and feeding.

ItemAmount (2026/2027)Who pays
Acceptance feeN150,000New students, once
Matriculation feeN50,000100 level only
Guidance and Counselling programme amountN819,000Each session

On 2026/2027 figures, a new 100-level student paying acceptance, matriculation and the programme amount needs N1,019,000 before books, feeding and personal costs. You can pay the programme amount in full, or 60% in the first semester and 40% in the second. Copy the bank account from the official fees page yourself, never from a message someone forwards to you.

How to apply for Guidance and Counselling at Clifford, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: text NIN, a space, then your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone number linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose Clifford University and the course “Guidance and Counseling” (JAMB’s spelling), with Use of English and three subjects. If Clifford was not your choice, do a JAMB change of institution before admission closes.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: at a JAMB office or accredited CBT centre, with your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB details. Clifford cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
  4. Apply on Clifford’s portal: go to soap.clifforduni.edu.ng (the “Apply Now” button on clifforduni.edu.ng leads there), create your account, choose Guidance and Counselling, fill the form and keep your printout.
  5. Confirm screening: call the admissions lines on Clifford’s homepage (08036970755 or 07034871571) and ask when and how Education candidates will be screened.
  6. Accept on CAPS: on efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. In 2026 JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept an offer. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  7. Pay acceptance and fees, then clear: the 2026/2027 acceptance fee was N150,000 and the matriculation fee N50,000. Pay through the official account, then bring your original documents for clearance.

Warning

Clifford University has publicly warned that people pose as its staff. Pay only into the account on Clifford’s official fees page, ignore anyone selling a guaranteed place, and remember that a real offer always shows on JAMB CAPS.

Studying Guidance and Counselling at Clifford University

Guidance and Counselling trains you to help people with educational, career and personal decisions, mostly in schools but also in churches, hospitals, workplaces and NGOs. Clifford runs it in the Faculty of Education alongside Computer Science Education and Industrial Relations and Personnel Management. Clifford does not state the degree title or duration on its requirements page. Education degrees in Nigeria usually run four years from 100 level, or three through Direct Entry.

Is Guidance and Counselling at Clifford accredited?

Yes. On 21 March 2023 Clifford announced that the NUC had granted full accreditation to eight more of its degree programmes after the late-2022 exercise, and Guidance and Counselling is on that list. The NUC’s own consolidated accreditation results, published in September 2026, also show Guidance and Counselling at Clifford as Full, with 2030 as the year the accreditation matures. That covers a 2027/2028 intake for most of its four years, and the NUC normally revisits before the status lapses.

What you will study

Clifford has not put its course outline online. Guidance and Counselling degrees in Nigeria usually cover:

  • Foundations of education: philosophy, history and sociology of education, and educational psychology.
  • Counselling theory: the main counselling theories and how to apply them, including group counselling.
  • Specialist areas: career and vocational guidance, marriage and family counselling, and counselling people with special needs.
  • Testing: tests and measurement, and how to interpret aptitude and personality tests.
  • Practice: counselling practicum, teaching practice, research methods and a final-year project.

Most graduates work as school counsellors in secondary schools, while others take roles in student affairs units, human resources, social welfare, rehabilitation centres and church counselling ministries. A master’s degree is the usual next step for anyone aiming at clinical or university-level counselling work. Teaching jobs in schools generally expect registration with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria, so ask Clifford how its education graduates register.

Mistakes Guidance and Counselling applicants make

  • Searching for the wrong name on JAMB: the course is listed as “Guidance and Counseling” with one “l”.
  • Thinking the NCE exemption applies: it covers colleges of education, not this degree.
  • Relying on a Mathematics pass: JAMB accepts it, but a credit is safer at Clifford.
  • Using three sittings: Clifford accepts not more than two.
  • Skipping the CAPS upload: without your O’level on CAPS, no offer can reach you.
