FUAHSE Cut-Off Mark for Dental Therapy 2027/2028: Requirements, Subject Combination and Screening

FUAHSE set 200 as the cut-off mark for Dental Therapy. See the official list, a safe target score, the safest UTME combination, O’level rules, screening, CAPS steps and the registration board question.

The FUAHSE cut off mark for Dental Therapy is 200 in the UTME. That is the figure the Federal University of Allied Health Sciences, Enugu (FUAHSE) published for Dental Therapy on its official 2026/2027 UTME admission cut-off list, the same mark it set for Dental Technology.

2027/2028 update: FUAHSE cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

Dental Therapy is one of the two courses the old Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy was named after, and it survived the 2024 upgrade as a B.Sc. in FUAHSE’s Faculty of Dental Health. The 150 national minimum got you onto the screening form; 200 is the line for this course. This page covers the official numbers, the score I would aim for, the subject combination (which is less clear than for most courses), screening, CAPS, and where the degree stands with the Dental Therapists Registration Board of Nigeria.

Dental Therapy was in FUAHSE’s first degree intakes, yet the 2025/2026 notice gave no course-level mark. The 2026/2027 list is the first time FUAHSE has put a number on it. Before the upgrade, the college admitted diploma students on polytechnic-style rules, so older cut-offs you see online for “Federal School of Dental Technology and Therapy” don’t apply to the degree.

All FUAHSE cut-off marks for 2026/2027

2026/2027 cut-offFUAHSE courses (names as on the e-portal)
260Nursing Science
240Radiography
230Medical Laboratory Science, Physiotherapy
200Public Health, Dental Technology, Dental Therapy, Prosthetics and Orthotics, Software Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Electrical and Electronics, Biomedical Engineering, Social Work, Biotechnology, Alternative and Complementary Medicine
180Health Care Management, Occupational Therapy, Parasitology and Entomology, Water Hygiene and Sanitation
170Speech Therapy, Community Health, Health Information
150Human Anatomy, Physiology, Biochemistry, Microbiology

Dental Therapy sits in the busy 200 band. Below it, Community Health (170) is the course closest to its preventive, community side, and Health Information and Speech Therapy are also at 170. Above it, Public Health shares the 200 mark, and Physiotherapy and Medical Laboratory Science need 230.

Safe target score for Dental Therapy at FUAHSE (my advice)

FUAHSE does not publish the lowest admitted score. The bands below are my judgement.

Your UTME scoreMy read for FUAHSE Dental Therapy
Below 200Not eligible for Dental Therapy; Community Health (170) and the 180 courses are open
200 to 209Eligible, at the edge
210 to 219Competitive with good science grades
220 and aboveStrong

I would aim for at least 210, ideally 220 in the 2027 UTME. Dental Therapy does not attract the crowds that Nursing does, but it shares the 200 band with popular courses, and FUAHSE may move candidates between courses in the same band when it fills places.

Catchment and quota

No catchment list or Dental Therapy quota has been published. Plan on merit.

UTME subject combination and O’level for FUAHSE Dental Therapy

JAMB’s university brochure page for Dental Therapy, as reprinted by Myschool, showed no subjects, no O’level list and no list of universities when I checked on 30 October 2026. The polytechnic entry, which still names the old Federal School of Dental Technology and Therapy, Enugu in a remark, is complete. I have used it, plus the pattern FUAHSE’s other clinical courses follow, to give you a safe combination.

RequirementDental Therapy
UTME subjects (JAMB polytechnic entry)Use of English plus any three of Mathematics, Chemistry, Physics, Biology or Health Science, Food and Nutrition
UTME subjects I recommend for the degreeUse of English, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
O’level (JAMB polytechnic entry)Five credits: English Language, Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry, Physics
Old Enugu college remarkFive credits in not more than two sittings
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO or NABTEB (FUAHSE has not published a different list)
Direct Entry (FUAHSE 2026/2027 notice)ND, HND or first degree plus relevant O’level credits

Why Biology, Chemistry and Physics? They satisfy the polytechnic rule, they match the five O’level credits that rule demands, and they are what FUAHSE’s other clinical degrees use. A combination with Mathematics instead of Physics may well be accepted, but nobody has published that for the B.Sc., so I wouldn’t gamble on it. You can read the polytechnic Dental Therapy entry on Myschool.

Course name to pick on JAMB: JAMB’s brochure lists this course as Dental Therapy, and FUAHSE’s cut-off page calls it Dental Therapy. I could not open JAMB’s own list of FUAHSE courses (the Myschool reprint would not load for me), so I can’t confirm exactly how the course appears under FUAHSE. FUAHSE’s 2026/2027 Post-UTME form took JAMB registration numbers and the course is on its official cut-off list, which tells you admission runs through JAMB. At registration, ask the centre to show FUAHSE’s course options on screen and pick the matching one. Don’t settle for a similar-looking course at another school.

Diploma holders from the old college are the natural Direct Entry candidates. FUAHSE’s notice accepted ND and HND holders in general terms but did not set a grade or say whether you start at 200 level. Ask before paying.

Worked example for a Dental Therapy candidate

Without an official aggregate formula, the useful check is how far your UTME score sits above 200 and my 210 to 220 target.

Kelechi scored 214 with B3 in English, C5 in Mathematics, C6 in Physics, B3 in Chemistry and B2 in Biology across two NECO and WAEC sittings.

  1. Eligibility: 214 minus 200 = 14. He clears the cut-off.
  2. Against my safe target: 214 is inside the 210 to 219 band, competitive but not safe.
  3. O’level check: five credits in two sittings. That meets the old college’s two-sitting rule, and all five required subjects are there.
  4. My advice: upload both results to CAPS, keep Dental Therapy, and treat an offer of a related course seriously if one comes.

Ada scored 176. She is 24 marks short of Dental Therapy, but 176 clears Community Health at 170, which covers some of the same preventive and community work.

How to apply for Dental Therapy at FUAHSE, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose FUAHSE and Dental Therapy, with Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics. If FUAHSE was not your choice, do a JAMB change of institution before its screening form opens.
  3. Upload your O’level on CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre, early. Universities read your grades from CAPS.
  4. Fill the FUAHSE screening form: go to eportal.fuahse.edu.ng and open the Post-UTME application form for the session. UTME candidates enter their JAMB registration number; Direct Entry candidates start with a phone number. Blogs reported a fee of ₦2,000 for 2026/2027; the portal invoice is what counts.
  5. Print your slip and watch for updates: FUAHSE has not published whether it holds a test, so keep checking the portal and the official admissions page after you submit.
  6. Check your status: use FUAHSE’s admission status page and JAMB CAPS. An offer is only real once it appears on CAPS.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives candidates four weeks to accept or reject an offer.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: FUAHSE has not published its acceptance fee in any source I reached. Pay only through an invoice generated on the FUAHSE e-portal, and keep every receipt for clearance.

Warning

FUAHSE’s admissions page warns that fake admission information about the university is circulating on Facebook. Its official channels are fuahse.edu.ng/admissions and the e-portal at eportal.fuahse.edu.ng, and every genuine offer also shows on JAMB CAPS. Nobody can sell you a place, so don’t pay anyone who promises one.

In July 2025, FUAHSE’s management warned staff and students that collecting money for admission is prohibited. Report anyone who asks.

FUAHSE is a federal university, so its 2026/2027 admissions fall under the window JAMB set for public universities, which ended on 31 October 2026 (News Agency of Nigeria, 11 May 2026). That date has now passed. I found no report of when FUAHSE uploaded its 2026/2027 list. If you applied this year, check CAPS and FUAHSE’s status page, and read our JAMB CAPS guide to understand each status.

Studying Dental Therapy at FUAHSE

Dental Therapy is in the Faculty of Dental Health with Dental Technology. FUAHSE has not published how long the B.Sc. runs, so confirm it with the department.

Is FUAHSE Dental Therapy approved?

  • March 2024: the Federal Government approved the upgrade of the Federal College of Dental Technology and Therapy, Trans-Ekulu, into FUAHSE.
  • October 2024: an NUC team began checking 18 of the 22 programmes FUAHSE’s Senate had approved for take-off in 2024/2025, using NUC’s Core Curriculum Minimum Academic Standards as the yardstick (The Sun, 31 October 2024).
  • December 2024: FUAHSE announced NUC approval for its first 16 degree programmes, and Dental Therapy was on that list (Journalist101 and Vanguard, 19 December 2024).
  • May 2026: the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. John Emaimo, said NUC approval now covered 27 programmes: the original 16 plus 11 newer ones, naming Biotechnology, Artificial Intelligence and Software Engineering among them. He spoke ahead of the university’s second matriculation (The Sun, 9 May 2026).

Dental therapists in Nigeria are registered by the Dental Therapists Registration Board of Nigeria, set up under the Dental Therapists (Registration, etc.) Act of 1993. In March 2026, after complaints about delayed NYSC mobilisation, FUAHSE’s Public Relations Officer said graduates of the old college are recognised and licensed to practise, naming this board and the Nursing and Midwifery Council (The Sun, 23 March 2026). That statement is about the old college’s graduates. I found no public record of the board approving the new B.Sc., and no NUC accreditation report for it yet, which is normal for a degree this young. Ask the department whether the board has approved the degree and when students will be indexed.

The NYSC delay is worth knowing about too. FUAHSE blamed it on the paperwork of turning a college into a university and said it was being resolved. If you will graduate from the degree in a few years, it should be settled long before then, but it shows why you should ask about indexing early.

What you study

  • Foundation years: basic sciences, human anatomy, physiology, oral biology and dental anatomy.
  • Preventive dentistry: plaque control, fluoride use, fissure sealants, diet counselling and oral health education for schools and communities.
  • Clinical skills: examining the mouth, scaling and polishing, chairside assistance and infection control in the dental clinic, under the supervision rules the profession sets.
  • Community oral health: outreach, school programmes and oral health surveys, which is where much of a dental therapist’s public sector work happens.
  • Professional practice: ethics, record keeping and supervised clinical postings.

Careers

Dental therapists work in hospital dental clinics, primary health care centres, school health services, private dental practices and NGOs that run oral health programmes. The work is clinical and preventive rather than surgical. If you want to extract teeth and do root canals yourself, the course for that is Dentistry, which needs a much higher score at the universities that offer it.

For UTME revision, start with our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus, then read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and what to do with your JAMB score if you are planning a fresh attempt in 2027.

Mistakes that cost Dental Therapy applicants a FUAHSE place

  • Stopping at 150: the course needs 200.
  • Using old diploma cut-offs: figures for the former Federal School of Dental Technology and Therapy describe ND admission, not the B.Sc.
  • Choosing an untested UTME combination: Biology, Chemistry and Physics is the safe set.
  • Three or more O’level sittings: the old Enugu remark allowed at most two, and FUAHSE has not relaxed it in writing.
  • Ignoring board approval: ask about the Dental Therapists Registration Board before paying acceptance.

If FUAHSE was not your choice at registration, see our guide to JAMB change of institution.

FUAHSE cut off mark for Dental Therapy: frequently asked questions

What is the JAMB subject combination for Dental Therapy at FUAHSE? FUAHSE has not published one for the degree. Use of English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics fits JAMB’s Dental Therapy rule and the five O’level credits it asks for, so that is the safe choice.

Is Dental Therapy the same as Dentistry? No. Dentistry trains dentists who do surgery and complex treatment. Dental therapists focus on prevention, oral health education and basic clinical care, and they register with a different board.

Is 205 good for Dental Therapy at FUAHSE? It clears the 200 cut-off, but only just. I would treat 210 to 220 as competitive and 220 or more as strong.

Are graduates of the old Federal School of Dental Technology and Therapy recognised? FUAHSE said in March 2026 that graduates of the former college are recognised and licensed to practise. The new B.Sc. has no published board approval yet, so ask the department.
