MOUAU Cut-Off Mark for Animal Nutrition and Forage Science 2027/2028: Requirements and Screening

MOUAU’s minimum for Animal Nutrition and Forage Science is 150 with MOUAU first choice. On JAMB it is an Animal Production option. See subjects, O’level rules, a safe target score, screening and CAPS steps.

The MOUAU cut off mark for Animal Nutrition and Forage Science is 150 in the UTME, with Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike (MOUAU) as your first choice. MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice set that minimum for all courses and gave no separate figure for this department.

2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

On JAMB’s brochure the course appears as an option under Animal Production, which matters when you register. This page covers the official figures, a safe target score (my advice), subject and O’level rules, how MOUAU screens, a worked example, the CAPS steps and what nutrition and forage graduates do.

Safe target score for Animal Nutrition and Forage Science at MOUAU (my advice)

MOUAU does not publish the score of the last person admitted into each course, so what follows is my judgement as an admissions adviser. It is not a MOUAU rule.

Your UTME scoreMy read for MOUAU Animal Nutrition and Forage Science
Below 150Not eligible for any MOUAU course
150 to 169Eligible to register, but admission is uncertain
170 to 189Reasonable chance with good O’level grades from one sitting
190 and aboveStrong. This is the range I would aim for.

In my experience this option is less contested than MOUAU’s science courses such as Biochemistry, but MOUAU has published no admission data to prove it. For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 170, ideally 190, with credits in English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology and Physics from one sitting.

Catchment and merit

MOUAU is a federal university, so its admissions follow the federal guidelines that mix merit, catchment and educationally less developed states. MOUAU has not published its own split or a list of catchment states, so do not lean on catchment to rescue a low score. A strong UTME result and clean O’level grades from one sitting are what you control.

Agricultural ScienceA credit in Agricultural Science must be backed by at least a pass in Biology
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO, NABTEB
SittingsTwo allowed, but MOUAU weights sittings in screening
Awaiting resultsRegister for MOUAU screening only after your result is out
JAMB course nameAnimal Production (MOUAU options: Animal Breeding and Physiology; Animal Nutrition and Forage Science; Animal Production and Management)
Special requirementsNone published beyond screening

On JAMB’s brochure, as reprinted by Myschool, this course sits under Animal Production, and MOUAU is the only school listed with options under it: Animal Breeding and Physiology, Animal Nutrition and Forage Science, and Animal Production and Management. Look for Animal Production when you search the course list during registration, and pick the option you want if the form offers one.

MOUAU’s remark on that entry asks for five O’level credits at no more than two sittings, covering English, Mathematics, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science and any other science subject, plus at least a pass in Physics. An Agricultural Science credit must be backed by at least a pass in Biology. The general line on the entry lists credits in Chemistry, Mathematics, Biology or Agricultural Science, Physics and English, so a Physics credit keeps you safe on both counts.

Direct Entry

The Animal Production entry’s general Direct Entry rule is two A-level passes in Chemistry and one of Biology, Botany, Zoology, Agricultural Science, Geography, Geology, Mathematics or Economics. MOUAU’s remark asks for A-level passes in Chemistry and Biology, Botany, Zoology or Agricultural Science. Under the general Agriculture entry, MOUAU also accepts ND or HND in related fields, with ND distinction or credit and HND credit holders going into 200 level. MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice gave no separate Direct Entry details.

How MOUAU screening works for Animal Nutrition and Forage Science

MOUAU’s 2026/2027 screening notice, signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, was reprinted by Myschool on 20 June 2026. I could not open the original on mouau.edu.ng, so treat these details as a faithful reprint rather than the source document.

Nothing in the notice says MOUAU set a written Post-UTME test for 2026/2027, so I won’t tell you one was held. Watch the portal after you register: MOUAU told candidates to check it regularly for screening results and admission status.

Worked example for an Animal Nutrition and Forage Science candidate

MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula. To show how the pieces interact, here is an illustrative method that many Nigerian universities use: UTME score divided by 8 (up to 50 points), plus O’level points for five relevant subjects with A1 = 10, B2 = 9, B3 = 8, C4 = 7, C5 = 6, C6 = 5 (up to 50 points). This is my example, not MOUAU’s formula.

  1. Somto scored 183 with B2 in English, B3 in Mathematics, A1 in Chemistry, B2 in Biology and C5 in Physics from one sitting. UTME points: 183 ÷ 8 = 22.88. O’level points: 9 + 8 + 10 + 9 + 6 = 42. Illustrative total: 64.88.
  2. Obinna scored 201 with C5 in English, C6 in Mathematics, C5 in Chemistry, C4 in Biology and C6 in Physics across two sittings. UTME points: 201 ÷ 8 = 25.13. O’level points: 6 + 5 + 6 + 7 + 5 = 29. Illustrative total: 54.13.
  3. Reading it: Obinna has the higher UTME score by 18 marks, yet Somto finishes 10.75 points ahead because her O’level grades are stronger and come from one sitting.

Since MOUAU says grades and sittings are both weighted, a candidate like Somto is not at a disadvantage just because her UTME score is lower. This is still an illustration, not MOUAU’s formula.

How to apply for Animal Nutrition and Forage Science at MOUAU, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register the UTME correctly: choose Animal Nutrition and Forage Science at MOUAU with Use of English, Chemistry, Biology or Agricultural Science, and Physics or Mathematics, and make MOUAU your first choice. If you already registered for another school, do a JAMB change of institution before MOUAU’s screening opens.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at an accredited JAMB CBT centre as soon as your result is out. MOUAU counts your grades and sittings, so upload the best single sitting you have.
  4. Register on the MOUAU portal: when screening opens, go to portal.mouau.edu.ng, fill in your details and generate the Remita invoice.
  5. Pay ₦2,000: by card or cash at any bank through Remita. Keep the RRR number and receipt.
  6. Check the portal for results: MOUAU posts screening outcomes and admission status there; there was no published test date in 2026/2027.
  7. Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gives four weeks to accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: MOUAU’s acceptance and school fees were not in any source I reached. Get the amount from the portal invoice and pay only through it.

Warning

Every genuine MOUAU offer appears on JAMB CAPS, and JAMB said in May 2026 that admissions outside CAPS are illegal. Anyone offering a MOUAU “slot” for money is selling something that does not exist, so pay only through the MOUAU portal invoice.

For 2026/2027, JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the date public universities should finish admissions. If you applied, look at CAPS now rather than waiting for a printed list.

Studying Animal Nutrition and Forage Science at MOUAU

Animal Nutrition and Forage Science is a department in MOUAU’s College of Animal Science and Animal Production (CASAP), alongside Animal Breeding and Physiology and Animal Production and Livestock Management. It deals with what farm animals eat: the nutrients they need, how feeds are formulated, and how pasture and forage crops are grown and conserved. Feed is the largest cost in most livestock businesses, which is why this specialism has a direct link to jobs. MOUAU is a federal university of agriculture at Umudike, near Umuahia in Abia State.

What you study

  • Early years: biology, chemistry, mathematics, general agriculture and introductory animal science.
  • Nutrition: animal biochemistry, nutrient requirements of poultry, pigs and ruminants, and feed analysis.
  • Feeds and feed mills: feed formulation, feedstuff processing, feed quality control and alternative local feed ingredients.
  • Forage science: pasture establishment and management, forage crops, hay and silage making, and grazing systems.

Degree title, duration and accreditation

MOUAU’s official department list confirms the department. The degree title (likely B.Agric, but not confirmed) and the duration were not in any official source I reached; agriculture degrees in Nigeria usually run for five years and include a farm practical year. I found no published NUC accreditation status for this programme, so I am not claiming one.

Careers

  • Feed mills and livestock feed companies (formulation, production, quality control).
  • Poultry, pig and fish farms as a nutritionist or farm manager.
  • Ranching and pasture management.
  • Sales and technical support for feed additives and veterinary input companies.
  • Research and postgraduate study in animal nutrition or pasture science.

For UTME revision, start with our JAMB Chemistry syllabus and JAMB Biology syllabus. If you are writing again in 2027, read when JAMB 2027 registration starts, and once results are out, how to check your JAMB result.

Mistakes that cost Animal Nutrition and Forage Science applicants a MOUAU place

  • Searching JAMB’s list for “Animal Nutrition”: look under Animal Production.
  • No Physics pass: MOUAU requires at least a pass.
  • Agricultural Science credit with no Biology pass: it will not count.
  • Relying on a high UTME score alone: MOUAU weights O’level grades and sittings too.
  • MOUAU not first choice: required by the notice.
  • Missing the CAPS acceptance window: JAMB allows four weeks.
