College of Legal Studies Yola Admission Requirements 2027/2028

College of Legal Studies, Yola has not published 2026/2027 or 2027/2028 requirements. See the ten diploma programmes named for 2023/2024, the JAMB position, likely entry documents and how to apply safely.

College of Legal Studies, Yola admission requirements have not been published for 2026/2027 or 2027/2028, and the college’s current course list is not confirmed. What I can confirm is limited: a December 2023 report of its second batch admission list for 2023/2024 named ten programmes, led by a two-year Diploma in Public Law, Sharia and Civil Law, and Private and Commercial Law. I found no official website, no admission portal and no evidence that the college admits through JAMB.

2027/2028 update: CLS Yola admission requirements and entrance process usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the position on this page is what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. It comes from the latest information available, which is the 2023/2024 admission report. If the college publishes anything newer, we will update this page.

A note on the name, because searches mix it up. The college appears as “College of Legal Studies, Yola”. Some people search for “College for Legal Studies”, which I found in no source. It is also a separate institution from the Nigerian Law School, Yola Campus, which trains law graduates for the Bar. A diploma from this college is not a route into the Nigerian Law School.

Programmes named for 2023/2024

The Myschool report on the second batch list named these programmes. I could not open the college’s own notice, and I found nothing for 2024/2025, 2025/2026 or 2026/2027, so treat this as the last known list rather than the current one.

I found no remedial, pre-diploma or IJMB programme at the college.

On the evidence I found, no. None of the reports mention JAMB, UTME, CAPS or a cut-off mark, and diploma programmes at state colleges of this kind usually admit through the college’s own form and screening. That has three consequences you should weigh:

  • No CAPS record: your admission will not appear on JAMB CAPS, so you cannot check it there. Keep your admission letter and receipts safe.
  • No automatic degree route: a diploma admitted outside JAMB is a separate qualification. Universities decide for themselves whether to accept it for Direct Entry, and many want a JAMB Direct Entry registration on top of it.
  • If you want a law degree: you need a UTME (or JAMB Direct Entry) admission to an LL.B programme at a university on the Council of Legal Education’s approved list, then the Nigerian Law School.

Likely entry requirements (my advice)

The college has not published requirements. From what diploma programmes at Nigerian state colleges usually ask, and this is my guidance rather than a college rule, I would prepare for:

Programme groupWhat I would have ready
Law diplomas (Public Law, Private and Commercial Law)Five O’level credits including English Language, with Literature, Government or History; Mathematics at least a pass
Sharia and Civil Law, Islamic Studies Education, Arabic EducationFive credits including English and Islamic Studies; Arabic or a certificate from an Islamic school helps
Computer ScienceFive credits including English and Mathematics, with a science
Criminology, Public Administration, Consultancy ServicesFive credits including English and Mathematics or Government
Advanced Diploma in LawA diploma in law, plus your O’level results

Bring originals and photocopies of your WAEC or NECO results, a birth certificate or declaration of age, a local government certificate of origin and passport photographs. These are the documents state colleges usually check at screening.

How admission worked in 2023/2024

The 2023/2024 report gives the only dated steps I could find. Candidates on the second batch list were told to collect their admission letters at the college’s Admission Office from 5 January 2024, and to complete registration between 5 January and 5 February 2024. Late registration attracted a ₦5,000 charge. The report did not give the form price, the entrance exam or the requirements.

Worked example (illustrative)

Aisha has five credits in one WAEC sitting: English C5, Islamic Studies B2, Government C4, Arabic C6 and Mathematics C6. She wants Sharia and Civil Law.

  1. Check the course is still running: she visits the college in Yola and asks for the 2027/2028 list, because the latest list I found is from 2023/2024.
  2. Ask about approval: she asks which body approves the Sharia and Civil Law diploma and whether the certificate is recognised by the state judiciary or Sharia courts she hopes to work in.
  3. Buy the form at the college: she pays only at the college or into an account the college names in writing, and keeps the receipt.
  4. Plan her next step: if she later wants an LL.B, she budgets for a separate JAMB registration.

How to apply to CLS Yola, step by step

  1. Confirm the college and the course: visit or call the college in Yola and ask for the current admission notice. No official website or portal was found.
  2. Ask what the diploma leads to: which body approves it, whether it is a state certificate, and what employers or universities accept it.
  3. Get the form from the college itself: ask for the price in writing and pay only into an official account.
  4. Prepare your documents: O’level results, birth certificate, certificate of origin, passport photographs and any previous certificate (for the Advanced Diploma).
  5. Sit the screening or interview if one is set: the college has not published its format.
  6. Collect your admission letter and register on time: in 2023/2024 late registration cost ₦5,000 extra.

Warning

College of Legal Studies, Yola has no website or portal that I could find. Do not pay anyone online for its form or for “admission processing”. Buy the form at the college and get a receipt.

What each CLS Yola diploma can lead to

The college has not published careers information, so this is general guidance on where diplomas like these are used in Adamawa and nearby states.

ProgrammeTypical workNext qualification to consider
Diploma in Public Law; Private and Commercial LawCourt registry and clerk roles, legal assistant in chambers, records and compliance in companiesAdvanced Diploma in Law, then a university LL.B through JAMB
Sharia and Civil LawSupport roles in Sharia and Area courts, Islamic organisations and local governmentA degree in Islamic Law or Common and Islamic Law at a university
Islamic Studies Education; Arabic EducationTeaching in Islamiyya and private schoolsAn NCE through JAMB if you want to teach in public schools
Computer ScienceData entry, computer operator, IT supportND or HND at a polytechnic, or a degree
Criminology and Security StudiesPrivate security, community safety and NGO workA degree in Criminology or Security Studies
Public Administration; Consultancy ServicesClerical and administrative roles, small business supportND or HND Public Administration, or a degree

Public employers often ask whether a certificate is approved by a national body such as NBTE or NCCE. I found no such listing for these diplomas, which is why I suggest you ask the college before you enrol.

Mistakes to avoid

  • Paying an online agent: the college has no portal I could find, so online “forms” are a red flag.
  • Expecting a CAPS record: there is no evidence the college uses JAMB, so your admission will not show on CAPS.
  • Treating a law diploma as a law degree: only an LL.B and the Nigerian Law School lead to call to the Bar.
  • Missing the registration window: in 2023/2024 late registration cost ₦5,000 extra.

Is CLS Yola right for you?

A diploma here may suit you if you want work as a court clerk, a legal assistant, an Islamic or Arabic teacher, or a public servant in Adamawa, and you want a shorter, cheaper course close to home. It does not suit you if your goal is to become a lawyer, because that needs an LL.B from a university and the Nigerian Law School. In that case, pick a university on the Council of Legal Education’s approved LL.B list and plan your UTME; our guide to JAMB 2027 registration dates gives the timing.

If you want an Islamic Studies or Arabic teaching qualification that goes through JAMB, compare FCE Yola Islamic Studies (NCE) and COE Hong Arabic and Islamic Studies (NCE).

CLS Yola admission requirements: FAQs

Does College of Legal Studies Yola use JAMB? I found no evidence that it does. None of the reports on its admissions mention JAMB, UTME or CAPS.

Can a diploma from CLS Yola take me to Law School? No. The Nigerian Law School admits LL.B graduates of approved universities. A diploma may help with Direct Entry where a university accepts it, but that is the university’s decision.

What is the CLS Yola form price? The college has not published one for any session I could find. Ask at the college and pay only into an official account.

Is CLS Yola the same as the Nigerian Law School Yola Campus? No. The Law School campus trains law graduates for the Bar. The College of Legal Studies runs diploma programmes.

Sources and updates

The programme list, the two-year length of the Diploma in Public Law, the 2023/2024 letter collection date, the registration window and the ₦5,000 late charge are from the Myschool News report of 19 December 2023 on the college’s second batch admission list. I could not open the college’s own notice, and two blog posts about its admission list would not load. I found no official website, JAMB listing or regulator listing for the college. Reports on the Nigerian Law School, Yola Campus were checked only to keep the two institutions apart. The likely entry requirements are my guidance, not college rules. Checked on 3 November 2026; this page will be updated if the college publishes a newer notice.
