The FUTIA Library and Information Technology cut-off mark is 160 in the UTME. The Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA) declared 160 as its minimum at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting on 11 May 2026, and its 2026/2027 supplementary admission notice, signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Offiongita E. Nkang, repeats 160 for candidates who chose FUTIA first. FUTIA has not published a separate departmental cut-off for Library and Information Technology, so 160 is the only official figure.
2027/2028 update: FUTIA cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Library and Information Technology (LIT) sits in FUTIA’s School of Computing and Information Technology, not in an education faculty, and it is on the Myschool reprint of JAMB’s FUTIA course list. At a technology university the course leans towards digital libraries, databases and information systems rather than shelving books.
Below you will find the official figures, a safe target score (my advice, clearly labelled), the UTME and O’level requirements, what FUTIA’s screening involves, a worked example, the CAPS and portal steps, and what you study in Library and Information Technology at FUTIA.

FUTIA Library and Information Technology cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 160 | FUTIA minimum declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting | Official (News Central list, 11 May 2026) |
| 2026/2027 (supplementary) | 160 | Minimum for the supplementary round, FUTIA first choice | Official (Registrar’s notice, 29 October 2026) |
| 2025/2026 | 160 | Reported general FUTIA cut-off | Unofficial (Studentship blog, August 2025; no FUTIA document cited) |
| Earlier sessions | Not found | No FUTIA figure located | Not published |
FUTIA has held its general minimum at 160 in every source I found, and it has never published a separate figure for Library and Information Technology. Blogs that print a departmental cut-off for FUTIA are guessing; there is no FUTIA document behind them.
Safe target score for Library and Information Technology at FUTIA (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not a FUTIA rule. FUTIA admits from the pool of candidates who clear 160 and does not publish the score of the last person admitted to each course.
| Your UTME score | My read for Library and Information Technology at FUTIA |
|---|---|
| Below 160 | Not eligible for FUTIA this cycle |
| 160 to 169 | Eligible, with a reasonable chance if your O’level grades are good |
| 170 and above | Strong. This is the range I would aim for. |
LIT is far less contested than Computer Science. It was not on FUTIA’s 2026/2027 supplementary list, which suggests its places were taken in the main round, possibly by candidates moved from more crowded computing courses. For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 170 and make sure every O’level subject the course needs is a credit.
Catchment and quotas
FUTIA is a federal university, and federal universities generally admit under merit, catchment and educationally less developed states (ELDS) quotas. FUTIA has not published its own split or a catchment list, so plan on merit: your UTME score and O’level grades.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Library and Information Technology at FUTIA
| Requirement | Library and Information Technology at FUTIA |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Mathematics and two other subjects, usually Physics and another science (Myschool’s brochure page for this course did not load, so confirm on the JAMB e-brochure). JAMB’s usual combination; confirm on the JAMB e-brochure. |
| O’level | Five credits including English Language and Mathematics (FUTIA requirement for all courses, per blog reprints); the other three should match your UTME subjects |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB (FUTIA charges ₦3,000 to verify O’level results) |
| Sittings | Blog reprints of FUTIA’s requirements say not more than two; FUTIA’s own notice was not available to confirm |
| Direct Entry | Not published by FUTIA; Myschool’s brochure page for this course failed to load (JAMB general line; FUTIA has not published its own DE rules) |
| Age | A 2024 blog reprint says candidates should be at least 16 in the year of admission |
This is the one FUTIA computing course where I could not confirm the subject line. Myschool’s brochure page for Library and Information Technology returned no requirements when I checked it on 3 November 2026. Most universities of technology that run LIT ask for Mathematics in the UTME, so keep Mathematics and confirm the other two on the JAMB e-brochure before paying for registration.
FUTIA has not published course-by-course subject requirements on any page I could read, so the lines above are JAMB’s general ones from Myschool’s brochure reprint, checked on 3 November 2026. The brochure pages carried no FUTIA-specific remark, so FUTIA is expected to follow the general line.
How FUTIA screening works
FUTIA’s screening runs through its portal, portal.futia.edu.ng. FUTIA has not published an aggregate formula or confirmed whether its screening includes a written test, and I found no official statement either way.
| Detail | FUTIA 2026/2027 |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates who chose FUTIA first in the 2026 UTME and scored at least 160 |
| Screening fee | ₦2,000, paid on the FUTIA portal |
| Test format | Not published by FUTIA. A Studentship blog mentions a screening interview; unconfirmed |
| Admission list | Uploaded to JAMB CAPS (Myschool, 22 August 2026) |
| Physical screening of admitted students | Reported to start on Monday 12 October 2026 |
| Supplementary round | Notice of 29 October 2026: minimum 160, FUTIA first choice, change to a listed course through JAMB, then register on the portal; Library and Information Technology was not on the list |
| Public university deadline | JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities; that date has now passed |
Worked example for a Library and Information Technology candidate
FUTIA has not published how it ranks candidates, so this example is illustrative. Many Nigerian universities convert the UTME score to 50 marks (score divided by 8) and add 50 marks from screening. I use that method only to show how the numbers work.
- Udeme’s UTME: 176 minus 160 = 16. Udeme clears the FUTIA minimum by 16 marks, and is 6 marks above my safe target of 170.
- Udeme’s illustrative aggregate: 176 divided by 8 = 22.00, plus half of a 60% screening score (30) = 52.00 out of 100.
- Comfort’s UTME: 161 minus 160 = 1. Comfort is eligible, but only just.
- Comfort’s illustrative aggregate: 161 divided by 8 = 20.12, plus half of a 55% screening score (27.5) = 47.62 out of 100, about 4.38 points behind Udeme.
- What I would advise: Udeme should keep Library and Information Technology as the course choice. Comfort should watch CAPS for a Transfer Approval to a related FUTIA course and accept it if FUTIA matters more than Library and Information Technology.
Even on this made-up formula, the 15-mark UTME gap between the two candidates becomes about 1.88 aggregate points before screening starts, which is hard to close on screening alone.
How to apply for Library and Information Technology at FUTIA, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME: choose Library and Information Technology with Use of English plus Mathematics and two other subjects, usually Physics and another science, and make FUTIA your first choice. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before FUTIA’s screening opens.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: FUTIA issued a notice to Post-UTME candidates about uploading O’level results. Do it at an accredited JAMB centre as soon as your result is out.
- Register on the FUTIA portal: create and verify an account on portal.futia.edu.ng, pay the ₦2,000 screening fee and complete the screening form.
- Check and accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, go to Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept the offer if it is the course you want. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and verification: on the FUTIA portal, pay the ₦30,000 acceptance fee and the ₦3,000 O’level verification fee.
- Complete registration: fill your biodata, register your courses and collect your matriculation number on the portal.
- Pay school fees in full: FUTIA’s 2026/2027 fee schedule (Myschool, 23 September 2026) requires 100% payment at registration and scrapped the old 70/30 instalment plan. Engineering and non-engineering programmes have separate charges.
Warning
Every genuine FUTIA admission shows on JAMB CAPS, and FUTIA’s fees are paid through portal.futia.edu.ng. Do not pay anyone who promises a Library and Information Technology place or a list slot.
For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the deadline for public universities, and that date has now passed. FUTIA released its supplementary form two days before it, on 29 October 2026. If you are planning for 2027/2028, start from the 2027 UTME: read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and how to check your JAMB result.
Studying Library and Information Technology at FUTIA
FUTIA was established by the Federal Government in June 2021 as one of two new federal universities of technology (the other is in Jigawa State). Its Vice-Chancellor is Prof. Leo Daniel. The university lists six focus areas: Aviation and Space Technology, Oil and Gas, Maritime and Ship Building, Computing Technology, Biotechnology and Informatics, and Agricultural Technology. Its academic units are called Schools, not Faculties. Library and Information Technology is in the School of Computing and Information Technology.
Accreditation
No NUC accreditation result naming FUTIA and Library and Information Technology was found. FUTIA’s website describes its programmes as running on NUC’s CCMAS curriculum, which is about the course content, not an accreditation grade. NUC normally accredits a programme before its first students graduate, and FUTIA, founded in 2021, has not reported accreditation results for any programme. Professional council accreditation for this programme is not confirmed.

Mistakes that cost Library and Information Technology applicants a FUTIA place
- Treating 160 as an admission score: it is the minimum to apply, and the score that gets you in is usually higher.
- The wrong UTME subjects: Library and Information Technology needs Use of English, Mathematics and two other subjects, usually Physics and another science. A wrong combination cannot be fixed after the exam.
- FUTIA not as first choice: the 2026/2027 notices limited screening to candidates who chose FUTIA first.
- O’level not on CAPS: FUTIA cannot offer you admission until your result is uploaded.
- Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: the acceptance fee, verification fee and full school fees are separate steps on the FUTIA portal.
FUTIA Library and Information Technology cut-off mark: frequently asked questions
Is 165 enough for Library and Information Technology at FUTIA? 165 clears FUTIA’s 160 minimum by 5 marks, so you are eligible. FUTIA does not publish departmental cut-offs, and I would aim for 170 or more to be comfortable.
Is Library and Information Technology the same as Library Science? They overlap, but FUTIA places LIT in its computing school, so expect more databases, networks and digital systems than in a traditional Library and Information Science degree.
Can I change from Computer Science to Library and Information Technology at FUTIA? Yes, if FUTIA offers it through CAPS or you do a JAMB change of course, provided your UTME subjects and O’level fit LIT’s requirements.
What is the FUTIA acceptance fee for Library and Information Technology? FUTIA’s registration guidelines (Myschool, 21 October 2026) list ₦30,000 for acceptance, plus ₦3,000 for O’level verification. Both are paid on portal.futia.edu.ng.
