The FUTIA Community Health Science cut-off mark is 160 in the UTME. The Federal University of Technology, Ikot Abasi (FUTIA) declared 160 as its minimum at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting on 11 May 2026, and its 2026/2027 supplementary admission notice, signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Offiongita E. Nkang, repeats 160 for candidates who chose FUTIA first. FUTIA has not published a separate departmental cut-off for Community Health Science, so 160 is the only official figure.
2027/2028 update: FUTIA cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Community Health Science is new at FUTIA. It is one of the 12 programmes the National Universities Commission (NUC) approved for FUTIA in a letter dated 11 September 2026, with the first intake in 2026/2027. It trains health workers for primary health care: the clinics, health posts and outreach work that serve most Nigerians.
Below you will find the official figures, a safe target score (my advice, clearly labelled), the UTME and O’level requirements, what FUTIA’s screening involves, a worked example, the CAPS and portal steps, and what you study in Community Health Science at FUTIA.
FUTIA cut-off mark for Community Health Science at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| FUTIA minimum UTME score | 160 | Official (JAMB policy meeting list, 11 May 2026; FUTIA supplementary notice, 29 October 2026) |
| JAMB national minimum for universities | 150 | Official (JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026) |
| Departmental cut-off for Community Health Science | Not published | No FUTIA figure for any session |
| Choice of institution | FUTIA as first choice | FUTIA supplementary notice, 2026/2027 |
| Screening fee | ₦2,000 | FUTIA registration guidelines (Myschool, 21 October 2026) |
| Acceptance fee | ₦30,000 | Same source |
| O’level verification fee | ₦3,000 | Same source |
| School | School of Health Technology | FUTIA school lists and NUC approval list |
| Degree and usual length | B.CHS (Bachelor of Community Health Science); not published by FUTIA | FUTIA has not published it |

FUTIA Community Health Science cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 160 | FUTIA minimum declared at JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting | Official (News Central list, 11 May 2026) |
| 2026/2027 (supplementary) | 160 | Minimum for the supplementary round, FUTIA first choice | Official (Registrar’s notice, 29 October 2026) |
| 2025/2026 and earlier | None | Community Health Science was not yet running | First intake was 2026/2027 |
Because Community Health Science only opened in 2026/2027, there is no earlier figure to compare. FUTIA applied its general 160 minimum to the new programmes, and nothing in the NUC approval statement or the supplementary notice set a higher bar. Older reprints of JAMB’s FUTIA course list predate the approval, so when you register for the 2027 UTME, check that Community Health Science appears under FUTIA on the JAMB e-brochure or registration portal.
Safe target score for Community Health Science at FUTIA (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, not a FUTIA rule. FUTIA admits from the pool of candidates who clear 160 and does not publish the score of the last person admitted to each course.
| Your UTME score | My read for Community Health Science at FUTIA |
|---|---|
| Below 160 | Not eligible for FUTIA this cycle |
| 160 to 161 | Eligible, but a place depends on how many applied (better odds in a supplementary round) |
| 162 to 174 | A reasonable chance with good O’level grades |
| 175 and above | Strong. This is the range I would aim for. |
It was on FUTIA’s 29 October 2026 supplementary list in its first year. For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 175 and make sure every O’level subject the course needs is a credit.
Catchment and quotas
FUTIA is a federal university, and federal universities generally admit under merit, catchment and educationally less developed states (ELDS) quotas. FUTIA has not published its own split or a catchment list, so plan on merit: your UTME score and O’level grades.
UTME subject combination and O’level for Community Health Science at FUTIA
| Requirement | Community Health Science at FUTIA |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology (JAMB’s line for Public and Community Health; no separate Community Health Science page was available). JAMB’s usual combination; confirm on the JAMB e-brochure. |
| O’level | Five credits: English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB (FUTIA charges ₦3,000 to verify O’level results) |
| Sittings | Blog reprints of FUTIA’s requirements say not more than two; FUTIA’s own notice was not available to confirm |
| Direct Entry | Two A level passes in Biology (or Zoology), Chemistry and Physics with O’level credits in Mathematics, Physics and English; or a relevant professional certificate with five science credits (JAMB general line; FUTIA has not published its own DE rules) |
| Age | A 2024 blog reprint says candidates should be at least 16 in the year of admission |
I could not find a JAMB brochure page for Community Health Science itself. The closest entry, Public and Community Health, uses Physics, Chemistry and Biology, which is also the standard line for health sciences. Confirm FUTIA’s line on the e-brochure.
FUTIA has not published course-by-course subject requirements on any page I could read, so the lines above are JAMB’s general ones from Myschool’s brochure reprint, checked on 3 November 2026. The brochure pages carried no FUTIA-specific remark, so FUTIA is expected to follow the general line.
How FUTIA screening works
FUTIA’s screening runs through its portal, portal.futia.edu.ng. FUTIA has not published an aggregate formula or confirmed whether its screening includes a written test, and I found no official statement either way.
| Detail | FUTIA 2026/2027 |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates who chose FUTIA first in the 2026 UTME and scored at least 160 |
| Screening fee | ₦2,000, paid on the FUTIA portal |
| Test format | Not published by FUTIA. A Studentship blog mentions a screening interview; unconfirmed |
| Admission list | Uploaded to JAMB CAPS (Myschool, 22 August 2026) |
| Physical screening of admitted students | Reported to start on Monday 12 October 2026 |
| Supplementary round | Notice of 29 October 2026: minimum 160, FUTIA first choice, change to a listed course through JAMB, then register on the portal; Community Health Science was on the list |
| Public university deadline | JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities; that date has now passed |
Worked example for a Community Health Science candidate
FUTIA has not published how it ranks candidates, so this example is illustrative. Many Nigerian universities convert the UTME score to 50 marks (score divided by 8) and add 50 marks from screening. I use that method only to show how the numbers work.
- Ekemini’s UTME: 178 minus 160 = 18. Ekemini clears the FUTIA minimum by 18 marks, and is 3 marks above my safe target of 175.
- Ekemini’s illustrative aggregate: 178 divided by 8 = 22.25, plus half of a 60% screening score (30) = 52.25 out of 100.
- Uduak’s UTME: 165 minus 160 = 5. Uduak is eligible, but only just.
- Uduak’s illustrative aggregate: 165 divided by 8 = 20.62, plus half of a 55% screening score (27.5) = 48.12 out of 100, about 4.13 points behind Ekemini.
- What I would advise: Ekemini should keep Community Health Science as the course choice. Uduak should watch CAPS for a Transfer Approval to a related FUTIA course and accept it if FUTIA matters more than Community Health Science.
Even on this made-up formula, the 13-mark UTME gap between the two candidates becomes about 1.62 aggregate points before screening starts, which is hard to close on screening alone.
How to apply for Community Health Science at FUTIA, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME: choose Community Health Science with Use of English plus Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and make FUTIA your first choice. If you chose another school, do a JAMB change of institution before FUTIA’s screening opens.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: FUTIA issued a notice to Post-UTME candidates about uploading O’level results. Do it at an accredited JAMB centre as soon as your result is out.
- Register on the FUTIA portal: create and verify an account on portal.futia.edu.ng, pay the ₦2,000 screening fee and complete the screening form.
- Check and accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, go to Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS. Accept the offer if it is the course you want. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and verification: on the FUTIA portal, pay the ₦30,000 acceptance fee and the ₦3,000 O’level verification fee.
- Complete registration: fill your biodata, register your courses and collect your matriculation number on the portal.
- Pay school fees in full: FUTIA’s 2026/2027 fee schedule (Myschool, 23 September 2026) requires 100% payment at registration and scrapped the old 70/30 instalment plan. Engineering and non-engineering programmes have separate charges.
Warning
Every genuine FUTIA admission shows on JAMB CAPS, and FUTIA’s fees are paid through portal.futia.edu.ng. Do not pay anyone who promises a Community Health Science place or a list slot.
For the 2026/2027 cycle, JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the deadline for public universities, and that date has now passed. FUTIA released its supplementary form two days before it, on 29 October 2026. If you are planning for 2027/2028, start from the 2027 UTME: read when JAMB 2027 registration starts and how to check your JAMB result.
Studying Community Health Science at FUTIA
FUTIA was established by the Federal Government in June 2021 as one of two new federal universities of technology (the other is in Jigawa State). Its Vice-Chancellor is Prof. Leo Daniel. The university lists six focus areas: Aviation and Space Technology, Oil and Gas, Maritime and Ship Building, Computing Technology, Biotechnology and Informatics, and Agricultural Technology. Its academic units are called Schools, not Faculties. Community Health Science is in the School of Health Technology.
Accreditation
Community Health Science is one of 12 new programmes FUTIA announced on 14 October 2026. The NUC letter, dated 11 September 2026, followed a resource verification visit and gives approval to commence. That lets FUTIA admit students; it is not accreditation, which NUC normally carries out as the first set approaches graduation. Professional council approval for the programme is not confirmed.
What you study
- Anatomy, physiology and basic medical sciences
- Primary health care and community diagnosis
- Epidemiology and disease control

Careers
Graduates work in primary health care centres, local government health departments, NGOs and public health programmes. Registration with the Community Health Practitioners Registration Board of Nigeria (CHPRBN) is how community health workers are licensed in Nigeria; whether the board has approved FUTIA’s programme has not been reported.

Mistakes that cost Community Health Science applicants a FUTIA place
- Treating 160 as an admission score: it is the minimum to apply, and the score that gets you in is usually higher.
- The wrong UTME subjects: Community Health Science needs Use of English, Physics, Chemistry and Biology. A wrong combination cannot be fixed after the exam.
- FUTIA not as first choice: the 2026/2027 notices limited screening to candidates who chose FUTIA first.
- O’level not on CAPS: FUTIA cannot offer you admission until your result is uploaded.
- Accepting on CAPS and stopping there: the acceptance fee, verification fee and full school fees are separate steps on the FUTIA portal.
