The UNIUYO Chemistry cut off mark for 2027 planning starts at 150 in the UTME. That is the only minimum the University of Uyo published for its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening, and it applied to every course, Chemistry included, for candidates who chose UNIUYO as their first choice. UNIUYO did not publish a separate departmental cut-off for Chemistry.
2027/2028 update: UNIUYO cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
Chemistry is in UNIUYO’s Faculty of Physical Sciences, with Geology, Geophysics, Mathematics, Physics and Statistics. It is a course many candidates overlook, which can work in your favour. Below are the figures, my safe target, the subjects, the screening steps and the NUC result.

UNIUYO Chemistry cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | Minimum UTME score to register for Post-UTME screening, UNIUYO as 1st choice | Official UNIUYO notice |
| 2025/2026 | 150 | Minimum UTME score for screening, 1st choice | Reported (abstechconnect reprint, 15 Aug 2025); original not seen |
| 2025/2026 supplementary | 150 and above | For screening registrants not admitted into their first-choice course | Reported (Myschool, 18 Oct 2025) |
| 2023/2024 supplementary | 140 and above | For screening registrants not admitted into their first-choice course | Official UNIUYO notice signed by the Registrar |
Chemistry was one of the courses with vacancies in UNIUYO’s 2023/2024 supplementary admission (listed as “Chemistry”), which invited screening candidates with 140 and above who had missed their first-choice course. That tells you the course did not fill completely from first-choice applicants that year. That has been a route for candidates who missed Pharmacy, Medicine or Biochemistry.
Some blogs print a list of UNIUYO departmental cut-offs with a number for each course. None of those lists points to a UNIUYO document, so I don’t use them here and I wouldn’t plan around them.
Why 150 is not the score that gets you admitted
UNIUYO does not publish its Chemistry closing score. Chemistry had spare places in the 2023/2024 supplementary round, which suggests it does not usually fill from first-choice candidates alone. Even so, a score near 150 puts you at the back of the queue, and the department will fill places from the top.
JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities to finish admissions; that date has now passed, and UNIUYO is a federal university. Late or supplementary offers can still show up on JAMB CAPS after a main list, so 2026 candidates should keep checking CAPS. For everyone else, the planning is for the 2027 UTME and the 2027/2028 session.
Safe target score for Chemistry at UNIUYO (my advice)
This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, built on the 150 minimum, how Chemistry usually compares with other UNIUYO courses, and what supplementary notices have shown. It is not a UNIUYO rule.
| Your UTME score | My read for UNIUYO Chemistry |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible. UNIUYO only screened candidates with 150 or more. |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible to apply, but the main merit list is unlikely. Watch for a supplementary exercise. |
| 160 to 189 | Possible, mainly with strong O’level grades and if demand is normal that year. |
| 190 to 209 | Competitive. This is my safe target score. |
| 210 and above | Strong. You should be in a good position if your O’level and subjects are right. |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 190, with a B grade in Chemistry and credits in Mathematics and Physics.
UTME subject combination and O’level for UNIUYO Chemistry
| Requirement | Chemistry at UNIUYO |
|---|---|
| UTME subjects | Use of English, Chemistry and two of Physics, Biology and Mathematics (JAMB brochure, general rule) |
| O’level | Five credits in English Language, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology |
| UNIUYO remark | UNIUYO requires an O’level credit in English Language |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB or GCE |
| Direct Entry | Two A level passes in Chemistry and one of Physics, Mathematics or Biology; UNIUYO accepts ND upper credit and HND lower credit in relevant programmes plus the UTME requirements |
I would register English, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics. That set also fits Chemical Engineering, Physics and Geology if you need to change course. Chemistry, Physics and Biology works too, and keeps the biological sciences open instead.
UNIUYO’s remark in Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure makes an English credit compulsory. A pass in English will stop you.
Direct Entry into Chemistry
Direct Entry needs two A level passes in Chemistry and one of Physics, Mathematics or Biology, or an ND or NCE with good grades. UNIUYO’s remark accepts an ND at upper credit and an HND at lower credit in a relevant programme, with the UTME-level O’level requirements.
How UNIUYO screening works
UNIUYO runs one Post-UTME/Direct Entry screening exercise for all courses. Here is what the 2026/2027 exercise looked like.
| Detail | UNIUYO 2026/2027 |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates who chose UNIUYO as 1st choice in the 2026 UTME and scored at least 150, and DE candidates who chose UNIUYO 1st |
| Portal | admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng |
| Fee | ₦2,000 through a Remita RRR (amount from reprints; the official page shows only the Remita method) |
| Documents | Uploaded as PDF on the portal |
| End result | A printed 2026/2027 Screening Exercise Slip |
| Test format | Not published in the notice, which says only “screening exercise” |
| Aggregate formula | Not published |
| Closing date | Friday 7 August 2026 according to abstechconnect; not on the official page |
Because UNIUYO has not said whether the regular screening includes a written test, prepare as if there is one. Revise your four UTME subjects and keep your O’level result, UTME result slip and any other document the portal asks for ready as clear PDFs. The guidelines page on eportals.uniuyo.edu.ng is the place to check once the 2027/2028 form opens.
Worked example for a Chemistry candidate
UNIUYO has no published aggregate formula, so the useful calculation is the gap between your UTME score, the 150 minimum and the safe target. The figures below are illustrations, not UNIUYO results.
Take Akaninyene, who scored 197 with B3 in English, B3 in Mathematics, C4 in Physics, B2 in Chemistry and C5 in Biology.
- Eligibility: 197 minus 150 = 47. Akaninyene clears UNIUYO’s minimum by 47 marks.
- Against my safe target: 197 minus 190 = 7. Akaninyene is 7 marks above the score I treat as competitive.
- O’level check: five credits, including the English credit UNIUYO requires.
- What I would advise: keep Chemistry as first preference; he is in the range where a place is likely.
Blessing scored 163. 163 minus 150 = 13, so she can register for screening. She is 27 marks short of my target. Her best route is a supplementary exercise, where Chemistry has had vacancies before.
How to apply for Chemistry at UNIUYO, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register for the UTME: choose Chemistry with English, Chemistry, Physics and Mathematics, and make UNIUYO your first choice.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your results are out. UNIUYO cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
- Create your screening account: go to admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng when the Post-UTME notice is out, create an account and verify your email.
- Pay the fee: generate a Remita RRR on the portal and pay (₦2,000 in 2026/2027, per reprints).
- Complete the form and print your slip: fill the application form, upload your documents in PDF and print the Screening Exercise Slip.
- Accept on CAPS: when an offer appears, log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status and accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
- Pay acceptance and clear: UNIUYO has not published its acceptance fee in the official pages I reached, so confirm the amount on the UNIUYO portal before you pay anything.
Warning
UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 screening notice was open only to candidates who chose UNIUYO as first choice. If UNIUYO is your second choice, do a JAMB change of institution before the screening form opens, or you may not be able to register at all. Pay only through the Remita RRR generated on the UNIUYO portal.
If you need to fix your choice of school or course, read our guides to JAMB change of institution and JAMB change of course.
Other ways into Chemistry at UNIUYO
UNIUYO’s May 2026 advert, signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Blossom E. Okorie, describes two one-year programmes that feed into degree courses.
- Basic Studies: open to all faculties. You need five credits including English and Mathematics plus three relevant subjects, at not more than two sittings. Admission is usually through a CBT screening test, and no JAMB score is required. Successful students can move into 200 level through JAMB Direct Entry if they meet the course rules. The form cost ₦15,500 (the advert prints it as “N15,5000”).
- Pre-Degree: for science, agriculture and education programmes only. It needs five credits including English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and uses a CBT. The form cost ₦10,500. The advert’s wording on whether a UTME score is needed contradicts itself, so ask the admissions office before you rely on this route.
For 2026/2027, registration for both closed on 30 September 2026 and the screening test was set for 27 October to 7 November 2026. Expect similar timing in 2027, but wait for the new advert.

Mistakes that cost Chemistry applicants a UNIUYO place
- A pass in English: UNIUYO’s remark requires a credit.
- Leaving Chemistry out of the UTME: it is the one fixed subject besides English.
- Treating 150 as an admission score: it is only the minimum to register for screening.
- Making UNIUYO your second choice: the 2026/2027 notice screened 1st-choice candidates only.
- No O’level on CAPS: an offer cannot be completed without it.
- Ignoring the supplementary exercise: UNIUYO has run one in past sessions for candidates who missed their first-choice course.
If you are writing the UTME again, see when JAMB 2027 registration starts and how to check your JAMB result and use the score.
UNIUYO Chemistry cut off mark: frequently asked questions
Is 170 enough for Chemistry in UNIUYO? It clears the 150 minimum and is close to my 190 target. With good O’level grades, you have a fair chance.
Can I study Chemistry at UNIUYO without Biology? Yes. The UTME rule needs Chemistry and two of Physics, Biology and Mathematics, so Physics and Mathematics are fine. The general O’level rule lists Biology, so have a credit in it.
Is UNIUYO Chemistry accredited? Yes. NUC gave University of Uyo Chemistry full accreditation (81%) after a December 2024 visit.
Does UNIUYO accept HND for Chemistry Direct Entry? Its brochure remark accepts an HND at lower credit or an ND at upper credit in a relevant programme, with the UTME-level O’level requirements.
