UNIUYO Biochemistry Cut-Off Mark 2027/2028 and Admission Requirements

UNIUYO requires at least 150 in the UTME for Biochemistry, with UNIUYO as first choice. Here is a realistic target score, the subjects, O’level rules and the screening process.

The UNIUYO Biochemistry cut off mark for 2027 planning starts at 150 in the UTME. That is the only minimum the University of Uyo published for its 2026/2027 Post-UTME and Direct Entry screening, and it applied to every course, Biochemistry included, for candidates who chose UNIUYO as their first choice. UNIUYO did not publish a separate departmental cut-off for Biochemistry.

2027/2028 update: UNIUYO cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.

UNIUYO runs two biochemistry degrees. This one, Biochemistry, is in the Faculty of Biological Sciences. Medical Biochemistry is a separate course in the Basic Medical Sciences part of the College of Health Sciences. Check which one you are registering for on JAMB. Below are the figures, a safe target score, the subjects and the screening steps.

Biochemistry was not among the courses with vacancies in UNIUYO’s 2023/2024 supplementary admission, which listed Botany, Chemistry and Animal and Environmental Biology from the sciences. That suggests Biochemistry filled from first-choice candidates that year.

Some blogs print a list of UNIUYO departmental cut-offs with a number for each course. None of those lists points to a UNIUYO document, so I don’t use them here and I wouldn’t plan around them.

Why 150 is not the score that gets you admitted

Biochemistry attracts many candidates who could not get Medicine, Pharmacy or Medical Laboratory Science, so the merit scores tend to sit well above the minimum. UNIUYO does not publish them, and it did not have Biochemistry places to fill in the 2023/2024 supplementary round. Plan as if a score in the 150s or 160s will not be enough.

JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the 2026/2027 deadline for public universities to finish admissions; that date has now passed, and UNIUYO is a federal university. Late or supplementary offers can still show up on JAMB CAPS after a main list, so 2026 candidates should keep checking CAPS. For everyone else, the planning is for the 2027 UTME and the 2027/2028 session.

Safe target score for Biochemistry at UNIUYO (my advice)

This is my judgement as an admissions adviser, built on the 150 minimum, how Biochemistry usually compares with other UNIUYO courses, and what supplementary notices have shown. It is not a UNIUYO rule.

Your UTME scoreMy read for UNIUYO Biochemistry
Below 150Not eligible. UNIUYO only screened candidates with 150 or more.
150 to 189Eligible to apply, but the main merit list is unlikely. Watch for a supplementary exercise.
190 to 219Possible, mainly with strong O’level grades and if demand is normal that year.
220 to 239Competitive. This is my safe target score.
240 and aboveStrong. You should be in a good position if your O’level and subjects are right.

For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 220, with B grades in Chemistry and Biology. Between 190 and 219 you have a chance, especially with a strong O’level result.

UTME subject combination and O’level for UNIUYO Biochemistry

RequirementBiochemistry at UNIUYO
UTME subjectsUse of English, Biology, Chemistry, and Physics or Mathematics (JAMB brochure, general rule)
O’levelFive credits in English Language, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology
UNIUYO remarkNone on the brochure page
Exams acceptedWAEC, NECO, NABTEB or GCE
Direct EntryTwo A level passes from Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology, or NCE/ND/HND in a related programme plus the UTME requirements

The brochure page for Biochemistry has no UNIUYO-specific remark, so the general rule applies. All five O’level sciences, including Physics, should be credits.

For the UTME, Biology, Chemistry and Physics is the most flexible set. It keeps Microbiology, Medical Laboratory Science and the other health courses open if UNIUYO offers you a change of course.

Direct Entry into Biochemistry

Direct Entry needs two A level passes from Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and Biology, or an NCE, ND or HND in a related programme with the UTME-level O’level requirements. Choose UNIUYO first on your DE form.

How UNIUYO screening works

UNIUYO runs one Post-UTME/Direct Entry screening exercise for all courses. Here is what the 2026/2027 exercise looked like.

Because UNIUYO has not said whether the regular screening includes a written test, prepare as if there is one. Revise your four UTME subjects and keep your O’level result, UTME result slip and any other document the portal asks for ready as clear PDFs. The guidelines page on eportals.uniuyo.edu.ng is the place to check once the 2027/2028 form opens.

Worked example for a Biochemistry candidate

UNIUYO has no published aggregate formula, so the useful calculation is the gap between your UTME score, the 150 minimum and the safe target. The figures below are illustrations, not UNIUYO results.

Take Aniekan, who scored 231 with B2 in English, B3 in Mathematics, B3 in Physics, B2 in Chemistry and A1 in Biology.

  1. Eligibility: 231 minus 150 = 81. Aniekan clears UNIUYO’s minimum by 81 marks.
  2. Against my safe target: 231 minus 220 = 11. Aniekan is 11 marks above the score I treat as competitive.
  3. O’level check: credits in all five required subjects from one sitting.
  4. What I would advise: register for Biochemistry, not Medical Biochemistry, unless that is the course he wants, and watch CAPS from the first list.

Emem scored 176. 176 minus 150 = 26, so she can register for screening. She is 44 marks below my target, so Biochemistry is unlikely this year. A supplementary offer into Botany, Chemistry or Animal Science and Environmental Biology would be worth accepting if it comes.

How to apply for Biochemistry at UNIUYO, step by step

  1. Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
  2. Register for the UTME: choose Biochemistry with English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and make UNIUYO your first choice.
  3. Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited centre as soon as your results are out. UNIUYO cannot offer you admission on CAPS without it.
  4. Create your screening account: go to admissions.uniuyo.edu.ng when the Post-UTME notice is out, create an account and verify your email.
  5. Pay the fee: generate a Remita RRR on the portal and pay (₦2,000 in 2026/2027, per reprints).
  6. Complete the form and print your slip: fill the application form, upload your documents in PDF and print the Screening Exercise Slip.
  7. Accept on CAPS: when an offer appears, log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, open Check Admission Status and accept. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status.
  8. Pay acceptance and clear: UNIUYO has not published its acceptance fee in the official pages I reached, so confirm the amount on the UNIUYO portal before you pay anything.

Warning

UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 screening notice was open only to candidates who chose UNIUYO as first choice. If UNIUYO is your second choice, do a JAMB change of institution before the screening form opens, or you may not be able to register at all. Pay only through the Remita RRR generated on the UNIUYO portal.

If you need to fix your choice of school or course, read our guides to JAMB change of institution and JAMB change of course.

Other ways into Biochemistry at UNIUYO

UNIUYO’s May 2026 advert, signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Blossom E. Okorie, describes two one-year programmes that feed into degree courses.

  • Basic Studies: open to all faculties. You need five credits including English and Mathematics plus three relevant subjects, at not more than two sittings. Admission is usually through a CBT screening test, and no JAMB score is required. Successful students can move into 200 level through JAMB Direct Entry if they meet the course rules. The form cost ₦15,500 (the advert prints it as “N15,5000”).
  • Pre-Degree: for science, agriculture and education programmes only. It needs five credits including English, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology, and uses a CBT. The form cost ₦10,500. The advert’s wording on whether a UTME score is needed contradicts itself, so ask the admissions office before you rely on this route.

For 2026/2027, registration for both closed on 30 September 2026 and the screening test was set for 27 October to 7 November 2026. Expect similar timing in 2027, but wait for the new advert.

Studying Biochemistry at UNIUYO

Biochemistry is in the Faculty of Biological Sciences. A B.Sc. in Biochemistry normally takes four years in Nigeria, with industrial training; UNIUYO did not confirm the duration in the pages I reached.

Accreditation

I could not find an NUC accreditation report for UNIUYO Biochemistry, so its current status is not confirmed here. Microbiology in the same faculty had full accreditation after a December 2024 visit. Ask the department for the Biochemistry result before you pay acceptance.

What you study

  • General, organic and physical chemistry in the first year
  • Chemistry of biomolecules: proteins, carbohydrates, lipids and nucleic acids
  • Enzymology and metabolism
  • Molecular biology and genetics
  • Nutritional, clinical and industrial biochemistry
  • Laboratory techniques and a research project

Careers after Biochemistry

Biochemists work in quality control for food, beverage and drug companies, research and teaching laboratories, environmental and oil-industry laboratories, and sales roles with pharmaceutical and laboratory suppliers. A first degree in Biochemistry does not lead to the licence held by medical laboratory scientists; that is a separate programme.

For UTME revision, use our JAMB Biology syllabus and JAMB Chemistry syllabus.

Mistakes that cost Biochemistry applicants a UNIUYO place

  • Mixing up Biochemistry and Medical Biochemistry: they are different courses in different parts of UNIUYO.
  • No Physics credit: the brochure lists Physics among the five O’level credits.
  • Treating 150 as an admission score: it is only the minimum to register for screening.
  • Making UNIUYO your second choice: the 2026/2027 notice screened 1st-choice candidates only.
  • No O’level on CAPS: an offer cannot be completed without it.
  • Ignoring the supplementary exercise: UNIUYO has run one in past sessions for candidates who missed their first-choice course.

If you are writing the UTME again, see when JAMB 2027 registration starts and how to check your JAMB result and use the score.

UNIUYO Biochemistry cut off mark: frequently asked questions

Is 200 enough for Biochemistry in UNIUYO? It is well above the 150 minimum. It is below my safe target of 220, so your O’level grades and the number of applicants will decide it.

What is the difference between Biochemistry and Medical Biochemistry at UNIUYO? Biochemistry is in the Faculty of Biological Sciences; Medical Biochemistry is a Basic Medical Sciences course under the College of Health Sciences. They are separate choices on JAMB.

Can I study Biochemistry at UNIUYO without Physics in the UTME? Yes. The UTME rule allows Physics or Mathematics with Biology and Chemistry. You still need a Physics credit at O’level.

Does UNIUYO offer Biochemistry through Pre-Degree? The Pre-Degree programme covers science courses and the Basic Studies programme covers all faculties, with entry into 200 level through Direct Entry if you meet the course rules.

Sources and updates

The 150 minimum, the 1st-choice rule, the Remita payment and the portal steps come from UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 Post-UTME/Direct Entry screening notice on uniuyo.edu.ng (the page carries a reused 2023/2024 web address). Myschool’s reprint of 5 June 2026 also gives 150 and the ₦2,000 fee. The 2023/2024 figure of 140 is from UNIUYO’s 2023/2024 supplementary admission notice, signed by the Registrar, Mrs. Blossom E. Okorie; the 2025/2026 figures are reported by abstechconnect (15 August 2025) and Myschool (18 October 2025). The Basic Studies and Pre-Degree details are from UNIUYO’s 2026/2027 Basic Studies and Pre-Degree advert (May 2026). The national minimum of 150 and the 31 October 2026 deadline for public universities come from the News Agency of Nigeria (11 May 2026). The subject rules are from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB brochure for Biochemistry. The Microbiology result is from NUC’s accreditation report (December 2024). The safe target score is my own advice. Checked on 3 November 2026; this page will be updated if UNIUYO publishes a departmental cut-off or a 2027/2028 notice.
