The MOUAU Physics Education cut off mark is 150 in the UTME. That is the minimum Michael Okpara University of Agriculture, Umudike set for every course in its 2026/2027 screening notice, and MOUAU must be your first choice. The university has not published a separate cut-off for Physics Education, so 150 gets you into screening and a higher score is what gets you admitted.
2027/2028 update: MOUAU cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They come from the latest official notice (2026/2027). If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
This page sets out the official figures, my safe target score, the JAMB brochure rules for Physics Education, how the course may appear on JAMB’s list, how MOUAU screens, a worked example and the CAPS steps from start to finish.
MOUAU Physics Education cut off mark at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Status |

| MOUAU minimum UTME score (all courses) | 150, with MOUAU as first choice | MOUAU notice, via Myschool reprint (20 June 2026) |
| JAMB national minimum for universities | 150 | Official, JAMB policy meeting (11 May 2026) |
| Departmental cut-off for Physics Education | Not published | No MOUAU figure exists |
| Screening fee | ₦2,000 through Remita | MOUAU notice |
| College | College of Education (COED), Department of Science Education | MOUAU department list and COED page |

MOUAU Physics Education cut-off history
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 150 | MOUAU minimum UTME score to register for screening, all courses, MOUAU as first choice | MOUAU notice signed by the Registrar, read through Myschool’s reprint (20 June 2026) |
| 2026 (national) | 150 | JAMB minimum for all universities | Official, JAMB policy meeting, 11 May 2026 |
| 2025/2026 | Not verified | Blogs say 150; I could not open MOUAU’s own 2025 notice | Unconfirmed |
| Any year, Physics Education only | Not published | No separate merit cut-off for this course in any MOUAU source I reached | No official figure |
MOUAU uses one floor of 150 for all its courses, and Physics Education has no departmental figure of its own. Blog pages that print a “MOUAU departmental cut-off” for Physics Education cite no MOUAU document, so read them as guesses. The real merit line is decided after screening and is never made public.
Safe target score for Physics Education at MOUAU (my advice)
Because MOUAU publishes no merit cut-offs, the bands below are my planning advice for science education courses at a federal university, not MOUAU figures.
| Your UTME score | My read for MOUAU Physics Education |
|---|---|
| Below 150 | Not eligible to register for MOUAU screening |
| 150 to 159 | Eligible; a fair chance with a clean O’level |
| 160 to 174 | Good chance |
| 175 and above | Strong for this course |
For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 170. Physics Education is one of the least crowded courses in most Nigerian faculties of education, and schools across the South East are short of physics teachers. MOUAU still ranks applicants and gives weight to O’level sittings, so your Physics and Mathematics grades count in screening.
UTME subject combination for Physics Education at MOUAU
JAMB’s brochure (Myschool reprint of the Education and Physics page) gives the UTME subjects as Physics, Mathematics or Chemistry, plus one other subject, with Use of English compulsory. In practice most candidates write Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry, which also lines up with the O’level rule.
| UTME subject | Choice |
|---|---|
| Use of English | Compulsory |
| Physics | Compulsory |
| Mathematics or Chemistry | Pick one (most candidates take Mathematics) |
| One other subject | Chemistry, Biology or the other of the pair above |
Which course name to pick on the JAMB form
MOUAU is not named on Myschool’s Education and Physics page, even though the course is on MOUAU’s own College of Education list as B.Sc (Ed) Physics. The page’s university list was empty when I checked, so this may be a gap in the reprint. When you register, look at the course names JAMB shows under MOUAU and pick the physics teaching option. Ask at the CBT centre if you are unsure.
O’level requirements
| Requirement | What the brochure and MOUAU say |
|---|---|
| Credits needed | Five credits, at not more than two sittings |
| Subjects in the brochure line | English Language, Physics, Mathematics and two other science subjects |
| Alternatives in the brochure | NTC or NBC passes in the relevant subjects |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO, NABTEB |
| Sittings | MOUAU weights the number of sittings, so one sitting is better |
Chemistry and Biology are the natural choices for the two other sciences. Further Mathematics also counts as a science subject at many universities, but check that MOUAU accepts it before you lean on it.
Direct Entry
- Brochure line: two A level passes in Physics and Mathematics.
- NCE holders: the brochure also accepts NCE at credit or merit in relevant subjects, such as Physics and Mathematics.
- What MOUAU itself said: the 2026/2027 notice as reprinted gave no Direct Entry details, so watch the portal for a separate DE announcement.
Does the 2026 NCE change affect this course?
No. JAMB’s 2026 NCE guide moved candidates for colleges of education onto a separate NCE registration with no UTME, and it ended 100 and 200 level degree admission into colleges of education from 2026/2027. Those rules are about colleges of education. MOUAU is a university, and its B.Sc (Ed) Physics Education degree is still filled through the UTME and CAPS. If you hold an NCE already, it counts towards Direct Entry here, as the list above shows.
How MOUAU screening works
MOUAU’s 2026/2027 notice, signed by the Registrar, Dr (Mrs) Nkeiruka Charity Mbanasor, set out these rules for UTME candidates:
| Detail | MOUAU 2026/2027 screening |
|---|---|
| Who could apply | Candidates with 150 or more in the 2026 UTME who chose MOUAU first; others could first change to MOUAU on the JAMB portal |
| Registration opened | 6 June 2026, online through www.mouau.edu.ng |
| Registration and validation | portal.mouau.edu.ng |
| Fee | ₦2,000 through Remita, by card or cash at any bank |
| O’level | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB results uploaded to JAMB CAPS at an accredited CBT centre |
| How O’level counts | The notice says O’level results and the number of sittings are weighted |
| Awaiting results | Candidates still waiting for 2026 results were told not to register until the results were out |
| Payment problems | portal@mouau.edu.ng |
| Closing date and test date | Not stated in the notice as reprinted |
The notice does not describe a written Post-UTME test, so I would not plan around one. Expect MOUAU to rank Physics Education applicants on the UTME score and the O’level result, with one sitting counting in your favour. Keep checking the portal in case a test or an extra step is announced; the notice itself told candidates to check back for screening results and admission status.
Worked example for a Physics Education candidate
MOUAU has not published an aggregate formula. This example only measures the gap to the minimum and to my safe target, so treat it as illustrative.
Take Chukwuemeka, who scored 163 with English, Physics, Mathematics and Chemistry. In one NECO sitting he has B2 in Physics, B3 in Mathematics, C5 in English, C4 in Chemistry and C6 in Biology.
- Eligibility: 163 minus 150 = 13. He clears the MOUAU minimum by 13 marks.
- Against my safe target: 170 minus 163 = 7. He is a little short.
- O’level check: English, Physics, Mathematics plus Chemistry and Biology, all credits in one sitting. That is exactly the brochure line, and his strong Physics grade helps.
- My advice: register for screening, keep MOUAU first and watch CAPS. With this O’level he has a fair chance even below my target.
Compare Adaeze with 184 but Physics from a second WAEC sitting. She is well above my target, so she should be fine, though the second sitting may cost her a little under MOUAU’s weighting.
How to apply for Physics Education at MOUAU, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Register the UTME with MOUAU first: choose Physics Education with English, Physics, Mathematics or Chemistry, and one other subject. If you already registered with another school as first choice, do a JAMB change of institution before MOUAU’s screening opens.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: do it at a JAMB-accredited CBT centre. MOUAU’s notice requires your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result there.
- Register for screening: when MOUAU announces the exercise on www.mouau.edu.ng, register and validate on portal.mouau.edu.ng with your JAMB registration number.
- Pay the screening fee: ₦2,000 in 2026/2027, on the Remita invoice the portal generates. Print every receipt and slip.
- Watch the portal: MOUAU posts screening results and admission status there, and the decision then shows on JAMB CAPS.
- Accept on CAPS: log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status, then Access my CAPS, and accept. JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept in 2026.
- Pay acceptance and clear: MOUAU has not published its acceptance fee or school fees in any source I reached. Pay only the amount shown on your MOUAU portal invoice.
Warning
Some websites sell “MOUAU departmental cut-off” lists, and some people sell admission “slots”. MOUAU’s notice gave one minimum of 150 for every course, and every genuine offer appears on JAMB CAPS. Pay MOUAU only through the Remita invoice from its portal.
JAMB set 31 October 2026 as the date for public universities to finish 2026/2027 admissions. If you applied in 2026, check CAPS now. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains each status you may see, and how to check your JAMB result covers what to do once your 2027 score is out.
Studying Physics Education at MOUAU
Physics Education sits in the Department of Science Education, College of Education (COED), on the Umudike campus about 10 km from Umuahia in Abia State. The COED page lists the department’s B.Sc (Ed) options as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Integrated Science and Computer Science Education. MOUAU itself was set up by federal decree in November 1992 as a university of agriculture.
What you study
- Physics content: mechanics, electricity and magnetism, waves and optics, heat, and modern physics, with laboratory practicals.
- Mathematics for physics: calculus and the methods you need to teach senior secondary physics well.
- Education courses: educational psychology, curriculum studies, measurement and evaluation, and physics teaching methods.
- Teaching practice and project: supervised teaching in a secondary school and a final-year research project.
MOUAU’s own pages I reached do not state the duration. Four years through the UTME is the usual length for a B.Sc (Ed) in Nigeria, and Direct Entry students normally start at 200 level.
Accreditation
I could not confirm the current NUC accreditation status of Physics Education at MOUAU. The course is on the university’s official department list, which is a good sign, but ask the department before you pay acceptance and make sure your admission letter names Physics Education.
Part-time route
MOUAU has also run part-time B.Sc programmes through its Centre for Continuing Education. Myschool’s report of the part-time call for 2023/2024 (12 September 2023) listed Physics Education among the courses. That is an older notice, and part-time entry rules and fees were not stated in it, so treat it as a possible fallback and confirm the current call on the MOUAU portal.
Careers
- Physics teacher in secondary schools, where good physics teachers are scarce
- Science laboratory and technical college teaching
- Tutorial centres, examination coaching and education technology firms
- Postgraduate study in physics or science education. To teach in Nigeria you are expected to register with the Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN)
Related MOUAU courses
- MOUAU Chemistry Education cut-off mark
- MOUAU Mathematics Education cut-off mark
- MOUAU Computer Science Education cut-off mark
- MOUAU Physics cut-off mark
All of these share MOUAU’s 150 minimum. If you also wrote Chemistry in the UTME, our JAMB Chemistry syllabus for 2027 shows the topics to cover.
Mistakes that cost Physics Education applicants a MOUAU place
- Treating 150 as an admission score: it only lets you register for screening.
- Choosing MOUAU second: the notice asked for MOUAU as first choice.
- No credit in Physics or Mathematics: both are named in the brochure line.
- Leaving Physics out of the UTME: it is the one fixed subject apart from English.
- O’level not on CAPS: the notice requires the upload.
- Paying agents for “slots”: offers only come through CAPS.
If MOUAU is not your first choice yet, read JAMB change of institution. If you registered a different course, JAMB change of course explains how to switch.
