Thomson Reuters Internship 2027: Pay, Eligibility, Hiring Steps and Deadline

Thomson Reuters Internship 2027: Pay, Eligibility, Hiring Steps and Deadline
The Thomson Reuters internship is a paid, usually 12-week placement in tech, legal, journalism, sales and more. Here is the pay, who can apply, the HireVue hiring process and the Reuters News Deadline.

The Thomson Reuters internship is a paid placement for university students and recent graduates in one of eleven areas, from technology and legal to journalism and sales. Summer internships usually run for 12 weeks, and pay depends on the role and the country: one 2026 US posting paid $18 to $34 an hour. Thomson Reuters recruits in three cycles a year, starting in January, May and September, and posts new roles at the start of each semester.

There is no single closing date. Each role on the Thomson Reuters Workday careers site has its own deadline. The exception is the Reuters News Internship Program for journalists, which runs one global call a year; based on this year’s date, its Deadline is 12 December 2026. You must have the right to work in the country of the role, and some US positions require US citizenship. Below are the eligibility rules, the four-step hiring process with its HireVue interview, and what interns actually do.

What Thomson Reuters interns actually do

Interns join a real team and work on projects tied to that team’s goals, with a mentor and manager coaching them. The work varies a lot by area, as three recent postings show.

  • Manufacturing intern, Eagan, Minnesota (summer 2026): an on-site role in print operations and distribution for students in their third or fourth year of operations management, industrial engineering, supply chain or a related degree. Strong Excel and MS Teams skills were expected.
  • Analyst intern, McLean, Virginia (26 May to 17 August 2026): a 12-week, 40-hour-a-week role in Thomson Reuters Special Services, researching open-source data on topics such as fraud and anti-money laundering. It required a master’s degree in progress or completed, a GPA of at least 3.2 and US citizenship.
  • Reuters News intern, London or Dakar (from 22 June 2026): a paid 12-week placement in a newsroom, pitching stories, covering breaking news and producing text and video, with a senior editor as mentor. The Dakar role required professional English and French.

Outside the day job, interns get intern events, hackathons, fireside chats, volunteer days with Business Resource Groups, and access to an internal networking tool for meeting colleagues in other countries.

Thomson Reuters internship pay and benefits

Thomson Reuters calls its internships competitively paid but does not publish a single rate. US postings carry a pay range because of state pay transparency laws, so the posting itself is the best guide. Some examples:

PostingLocationPay stated
Core Print Solutions Manufacturing Intern, summer 2026Eagan, Minnesota, US$18 to $34 an hour, plus $4 or $5 an hour for second or third shift
Analyst Intern (TRSS), summer 2026McLean, Virginia, USPaid hourly; range not given
Reuters News Internship Program 2026London, Dakar, Dubai, Seoul and other bureausPaid; amount not given

The campus careers page lists company-designated holidays, on-the-job coaching, and the chance of a “returnship” (coming back for another placement) as benefits. A certificate is not part of the package, despite what some listing sites suggest. What you take away is the work on your CV and a manager who can act as a reference.

Thomson Reuters internship eligibility

The campus careers page aims its internships at students who are finishing a semester or a co-op, and at new graduates. Every posting then sets its own rules, and these vary more than most applicants expect.

  • Year of study: some roles want third- or fourth-year students; others want master’s students; the Reuters News program takes students and graduates.
  • GPA: the campus page sets no GPA. Individual postings may: the TRSS analyst role asked for 3.2 or higher. The fixed “3.0 minimum” you see on some listing sites is not an official rule.
  • Language: strong English for all roles, plus another language where the job needs it (French in Dakar, for example).
  • Work rights: Reuters News postings state that applicants must be eligible to work in the country they apply to.
  • Citizenship: some US government-facing roles in Thomson Reuters Special Services require US citizenship and the ability to obtain a security clearance.

Rules for international students

Thomson Reuters postings do not promise visa sponsorship, so plan on using a status you already have.

  • F-1 students in the US: internships are usually done on Curricular Practical Training (CPT), which your school’s Designated School Official authorises once you have an offer and an employer letter. Ask your international office early.
  • Students in the UK, Canada and elsewhere: check whether your student visa allows full-time work during vacations. Most allow it within limits.
  • Reuters News program: apply to a bureau in a country where you already have the right to work. Local applicants in Dakar, Seoul or Dubai have the same standing as anyone in London.

Applying to the Reuters News Internship Program

The newsroom program works differently from corporate roles. Reuters posts a separate vacancy for each bureau or team (in 2026 these included London teams such as Audience and Live Pages, plus Dakar, Dubai and Seoul), and you apply to the one where you have work rights. Postings ask for strong writing, a good working knowledge of English reporting and a commitment to a career in journalism. Interviews for the 2026 intake took place in February and March, and the placements started on 22 June. Prepare clips, a short list of story ideas for that bureau’s region, and proof of any second language the posting names before the call opens, because the window is short.

How the Thomson Reuters hiring process works

  1. Apply online: search the Thomson Reuters Workday external career site, filter for internships, and apply with your CV. Sign up for the talent network so new roles matching your degree reach you.
  2. Assessments (some roles): certain sales and technology internships use Pymetrics (short behavioural games) and HackerRank (a timed coding test). The outreach email tells you what to expect.
  3. HireVue interview: a recorded video interview you complete at home or on campus, even on a phone. You read each question on screen, then record your answer.
  4. Hiring team interview: if you pass HireVue, you meet someone from the team. Track your status in your Workday account.
  5. Offer: the campus team emails successful candidates.

For HireVue, practise speaking to your camera for about two minutes per answer. Use good light, sit near your router, and treat it as a live interview, because the hiring team reviews the recordings.

CV and cover letter tips for Thomson Reuters

Most postings ask only for a CV, but some let you add a cover letter. Write both for the specific area: a legal-tech recruiter and a newsroom editor read for different things.

  • Open the CV with your degree, year and graduation date, then your availability (for example, 12 weeks from late May).
  • For technology roles, list languages and frameworks with a project link. For journalism, link to three published clips.
  • Mirror the posting’s wording where it is true of you: if it asks for “analytical and quantitative skills”, show a result with a number.
  • Keep it to one page if you are an undergraduate.

A sample cover letter opening you can adapt:

“Last semester I built a small tool that pulls court filings into a searchable spreadsheet for my law clinic, and it is the reason I want to spend this summer on your Legal Technology team.”

Swap in your own project and the team you are applying to.

Common mistakes applicants make

  • Waiting for a fixed deadline. Corporate roles close when filled. Check the career site at the start of each semester.
  • Applying where you cannot work. A London newsroom role is open only to people with UK work rights.
  • Treating HireVue as a formality. It is the first real filter. Prepare examples as you would for a live interview.
  • Ignoring the assessment email. Pymetrics and HackerRank links expire. Complete them within the time given.
  • Assuming the 3.0 GPA rule. Read the posting. Some roles have no GPA bar, and some ask for more.
  • Sending a generic letter. Name the team and one thing you would work on.

Who should apply, and who should not

Apply if you study law, computer science, data, finance, business or journalism, you already have the right to work in the US, UK or another country with a Thomson Reuters office, and you can commit to a full summer. The Reuters News program runs in bureaus in Africa, Asia and the Middle East as well as London, so it suits journalists outside the US and UK.

Look elsewhere if you need an employer to sponsor a visa and pay your travel, or if you want a remote internship you can do from any country. Thomson Reuters roles are tied to an office and to local work rights.

Sources and updates

Areas, recruitment cycles, benefits and the four hiring steps come from the Thomson Reuters campus careers internships page. Role details, pay and eligibility come from Thomson Reuters postings on its Workday career site as republished on job boards in 2026: the Eagan manufacturing internship, the TRSS analyst internship and the Reuters News Internship Program 2026 roles in London and Dakar. CPT rules come from the US Student and Exchange Visitor Program guidance on Curricular Practical Training. Compared with some listing sites, I have corrected the length (“6 to 6 months” is a typo; summer roles are 12 weeks), removed the fixed 3.0 GPA rule and the “all countries” claim, and added the work-rights and citizenship limits. Checked on 25 October 2026.
