Oilserv Graduate Trainee Programme 2027: Requirements, Structure and Deadline

Oilserv Graduate Trainee Programme 2027: Requirements, Structure and Deadline
Oilserv’s 2027 Ingenious Graduate Trainee Programme is a two-year paid job in Port Harcourt for NYSC-completed graduates with a 2:2 or better. Requirements, changes from 2026 and the deadline.

The Oilserv Graduate Trainee Programme 2027, which Oilserv calls the Ingenious Graduate Trainee Programme (IGTP), is a two-year paid entry-level job at Oilserv Limited in Port Harcourt for Nigerian graduates who have finished NYSC. You need a bachelor’s degree with at least a second class lower (2:2) in engineering, accounting, technical safety, ESG or a related field, and you do not need any previous full-time work experience.

Applications for the 2027 cohort closed on 10 October 2026, according to the job sites that carried the call. Oilserv has not announced the following intake yet, so based on this year’s date, the deadline is 10 October 2027. If you missed it, use the year to finish NYSC and get your CV ready.

EPCIC stands for engineering, procurement, construction, installation and commissioning. Oilserv provides these services on oil and gas projects onshore, offshore and subsea, which is why most of the listed degrees are engineering ones.

Oilserv graduate trainee requirements

  • A bachelor’s degree (BSc) from a recognised institution in one of the disciplines in the table below.
  • At least a second class lower (2:2).
  • A completed NYSC programme. A discharge certificate or exemption letter is the usual proof.
  • No prior full-time work experience is required.
  • You work well in a team and want to keep learning.
FieldAccepted courses
EngineeringMechanical, Electrical/Electronic, Petroleum, Civil, Pipeline, Piping, Process
FinanceAccounting
Health and safetyTechnical Safety
SustainabilityESG (environmental, social and governance)
Others“Other relevant disciplines”, not listed by name

Eligibility edge cases

  • NYSC exemption: graduates who were over the service age at graduation get an exemption certificate instead of a discharge certificate. The listing asks for completed NYSC, and an exemption certificate is the usual equivalent proof.
  • Still serving: you do not yet meet the rule. If you pass out before the deadline, you can apply then.
  • HND holders: the 2027 listing asks for a BSc. Oilserv has not said whether an HND counts, so read the next call closely before applying.
  • Third class or pass: below the 2:2 minimum, so you are out on the published rules.
  • Master’s degree holders: nothing in the listing excludes you. Your BSc class is what the 2:2 rule checks.
  • Some work experience already: the 2027 listing says no experience is required, which is not the same as saying experienced graduates are barred. A year or two of relevant work after NYSC should not hurt you.
  • Living outside Rivers State: you can apply, but the job is based in Port Harcourt, so you would need to relocate.

How the 2027 requirements changed from 2026

Oilserv’s own careers portal still shows the 2026 IGTP listing, and the rules were stricter then. If a 2:2 or your age ruled you out in 2026, check the next call carefully before assuming you cannot apply.

Requirement2026 IGTP2027 IGTP
Minimum class of degreeSecond class upper (2:1)Second class lower (2:2)
Age limitNot older than 28None stated
Experience0 to 2 yearsNo prior full-time experience required
CoursesEngineering, Law, Information Management, Accounting, ESG, Social SciencesEngineering (seven named branches), Accounting, Technical Safety, ESG, other relevant
Structure6-month rotation, then 18-month specialised track6-month rotation, then 18-month discipline assignment

Law and social sciences dropped off the named list for 2027. A graduate in those fields could still argue they fit “other relevant disciplines”, but the programme leans clearly towards engineering roles.

Who should apply, and who shouldn’t

Apply if you have a BSc with a 2:2 or better in one of the engineering branches, Accounting, Technical Safety or ESG, have finished NYSC, and want a structured start in oil and gas services in Port Harcourt. The lower grade bar and the removal of the age limit in 2027 opened the door to many graduates who were shut out in 2026.

Skip it, or think hard, if you cannot relocate to Port Harcourt, want a role in law, media or the social sciences, or already have several years of experience and expect an experienced-hire salary. A trainee scheme pays trainee rates, even when the package is described as competitive.

What Oilserv graduate trainees do in the two years

PhaseLengthWhat happens
Phase 1: rotation6 monthsYou move across several departments to learn how the company runs, its culture and its value chain
Phase 2: discipline track18 monthsYou are placed in one discipline that matches your strengths, with intensive technical and professional training

Day to day, trainees support project teams on oilfield service work, carry out research and data analysis, take part in training and assessments, and follow QHSE (quality, health, safety and environment) rules. You also present progress reports to your HR business partner and line manager.

Benefits of the Oilserv programme

  • A salary and benefits package that Oilserv calls competitive. It has not published the amount.
  • Mentoring and coaching from people already working in the industry.
  • Hands-on time on oilfield service operations.
  • Access to a network of professionals across Oilserv’s operations.
  • A chance of a full-time job after you complete the programme. It is not guaranteed.

Costs to plan for

The listing does not say whether Oilserv helps with relocation or housing. If you are moving to Port Harcourt, budget for travel to any assessment or interview, a deposit and rent until your first salary, and transport to site or office in the first month. Keep some money aside in case selection takes longer than you expect.

How to prepare your CV for the Oilserv programme

The 2027 listing does not mention a cover letter or written questions, so your CV and profile carry the application. Recruiters screening hundreds of fresh graduates look for the requirements first (degree, class, NYSC) and then for any sign you already understand engineering or oil and gas work.

  1. Header: name, phone, email, city and a LinkedIn link if you have one.
  2. Short profile: three lines saying your degree, class, NYSC status and the kind of work you want.
  3. Education: BSc, university, class of degree and year, then your final-year project title in one line.
  4. Experience: SIWES placement, NYSC place of primary assignment and any internship, each with two or three bullet points of what you actually did.
  5. Skills and certifications: software you can use (AutoCAD, MATLAB, Excel, HYSYS or similar) and any HSE certificates you hold.

A sample profile line

“Mechanical Engineering graduate (Second Class Upper, University of Port Harcourt, 2024), NYSC completed in 2025. SIWES at a fabrication yard in Onne, where I helped prepare weld inspection reports for pipeline spools. Looking for a graduate trainee role in EPCIC project delivery.”

That line answers the three screening questions straight away and shows relevant exposure. Write yours from your own record. For layout, the Europass CV guide is a good starting template.

How to apply for the Oilserv graduate trainee intake

  1. Finish NYSC: if you are still serving, you will need your discharge certificate before the deadline.
  2. Watch the official portal: Oilserv posts its trainee roles on oilservcareers.seamlesshiring.com. The 2027 call appeared there in early October 2026, so start checking from September 2027.
  3. Prepare your CV: one or two pages, with your class of degree, final-year project and any internship or SIWES placement near the top. Save it as a PDF named with your full name.
  4. Apply on the listing: open the IGTP role for the new year, create your profile and submit before the closing date.
  5. Keep your documents ready: degree certificate or statement of result, NYSC certificate, transcript and ID, in case you are invited to the next stage.
  6. Prepare for tests and interviews: Oilserv has not published its selection stages, so practise numerical and verbal reasoning and revise the core courses of your degree.

One thing I noticed: when I checked on 24 October 2026, the 2027 listing was still visible on Oilserv’s portal with no closing date printed on it. If the listing still accepts applications when you read this, apply straight away instead of waiting for the 2027 round.

If you are still in school, an industrial placement makes your CV much stronger for schemes like this. Our guide to the Kuda SIWES internship shows how those applications work.

No fees, no middlemen

Oilserv’s listing mentions no application fee. Ignore anyone on WhatsApp or Telegram who offers to “secure a slot” in the trainee programme for money.

Common mistakes

  • Applying before NYSC is done: completed NYSC is a stated requirement.
  • Burying your class of degree: put it in your profile line and education section, not on page two.
  • A CV with no engineering content: list your SIWES tasks and final-year project, even if they feel small.
  • Using unofficial forms: apply only on Oilserv’s careers portal. Job blogs copy the text but cannot submit for you.
  • Ignoring emails from the portal: test invitations often come at short notice, so check your inbox and spam folder daily after applying.

What happens after you apply

Oilserv has not published its selection stages, timeline or the number of trainees it will hire. Graduate schemes in the Nigerian oil and gas sector commonly use an online aptitude test, followed by interviews and document checks, but treat that as general practice, not a confirmed Oilserv process. Successful candidates start the six-month rotation, then move into an 18-month discipline track. A full-time offer at the end depends on performance and is not guaranteed.

Sources and updates

Requirements, programme structure, location and benefits come from Oilserv’s official careers portal: the 2027 Ingenious Graduate Trainee listing and the earlier 2026 IGTP listing. The 10 October 2026 closing date comes from Opportunities for Africans and MySchoolGist, because the Oilserv listing itself does not print the date; it was still visible on the portal when rechecked on 24 October 2026. Oilserv has not published pay, selection stages, the number of places or relocation support. Checked on 24 October 2026. I will update this page when Oilserv opens the following intake.
