SSU Post UTME Form 2026/2027 Is Out: Cut-Off Mark & How To Apply

The SSU Post UTME screening form for 2026/2027 is out. Screening opens on Tuesday, 11 August 2026, you need 150 in UTME, and the form costs N2,000 on the portal at applicant.safapply.com/ssu. Sokoto State University has to be your first choice.

And there is no exam this year.

That last one catches students out. Some of them are already paying WhatsApp vendors for “SSU Post-UTME past questions and answers” that cannot exist, because SSU has said the screening is strictly online and no Post-UTME examination will be required of applicants at any time. Nobody is sitting in a CBT hall for this, and there is no trip to Sokoto to write anything.

So what decides your admission? Your UTME score, your O’Level grades, and whether you fill the form correctly before the deadline. That third one is the part you still control, and it is the part students keep losing on.

SSU Post UTME 2026 eligibility: who can actually apply

Four conditions. Fail any one of them and the other three stop mattering, so read all four against your own JAMB profile before you spend a naira.

SSU has to be your first choice

This condition ends a huge number of applications every year, and the notice is specific about it. Screening is for candidates who picked Sokoto State University as their first choice during UTME or Direct Entry registration.

If SSU is sitting in your second choice slot, the portal will not bring up your course when you enter your registration number. The system is not broken and you are not being punished. JAMB simply has not released your record to the university, so as far as SSU can see, you did not apply to them.

You can fix this. Log into your JAMB profile at jamb.caps.gov.ng and process a change of institution so SSU becomes your first choice. JAMB charges its own fee for that, and it has to be done before you touch the SSU form. Please do not pay N2,000 hoping the choice will correct itself later. It will not.

SSU cut-off mark 2026 is 150

Score 150 or above and you can apply. Score 149 and the portal will not accept your registration number, which sounds harsh but at least it saves you the form fee.

That 150 is the general university cut-off, which is a separate thing entirely from the departmental cut-off that decides who gets admitted. After screening closes, SSU sorts everybody course by course and admits from the top down until the seats run out, which means that in a crowded course the last person admitted will have scored well above 150.

I do not know what SSU’s departmental cut-offs will be this session, and neither does any blog claiming to publish them right now. They have not been released. What I can tell you is how scores generally position you.

At 150 to 169 you are eligible, but realistically you are only competitive for the quieter programmes like Arabic Studies, Hausa, History, Islamic Studies, Geography and several of the Education combinations. From 170 upward you are in reasonable shape across most Science, Arts and Social Science courses. Above 200 you are strong almost anywhere in the university.

If your score is at the bottom of that range and you are chasing a crowded course, think seriously about a change of course to something related in the same faculty. A student who switches to Education and Biology is inside the school by October, registering for lectures. Refusing to move from a course that has already filled up usually means another year at home.

Your O’Level result must be on CAPS

Both UTME and Direct Entry candidates need at least five credit passes including English Language and Mathematics, from no more than two sittings, uploaded to JAMB CAPS.

The word uploaded is doing real work in that sentence. Having the result in your bag does nothing. It has to show on CAPS at jamb.caps.gov.ng, where SSU looks. If your grades are not there, the admission system treats you as though you have no result at all. Upload it yourself online or walk into any JAMB accredited CBT centre with your result slip and registration details.

The two sittings rule catches people too. If your five credits are scattered across three different WAEC and NECO sittings, you cannot combine all three. Pick the two that together give you five credits including English and Maths. And if you are awaiting a result, watch the deadline closely, because a result that comes out after the closing date is the same as no result.

Your credits also have to match the subject requirements for the specific course you applied for. Chemistry needs credits in Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Biology alongside English. Five credits in the wrong subjects will fail departmental screening even after you have paid and submitted everything.

Direct Entry students upload an A’Level result

DE candidates carry one extra requirement. You upload a scanned copy of your relevant A’Level qualification on the university portal, whether that is an ND, HND, NCE, IJMB or an equivalent from a recognised institution.

Pay attention to the word relevant. An ND in Business Administration backs up Direct Entry into a management or social science course. It does not back up Microbiology. Check that your qualification matches the department before you apply.

Scan the document properly too. Good light, flat surface, straight on, right side up, saved as a clear PDF or JPG inside the portal’s size limit. A dark, angled phone photo is a genuinely common reason DE applications get flagged during verification, and fixing it later is a headache you do not need.

Also note that DE candidates still need the five O’Level credits. The A’Level qualification sits on top of that requirement. It does not replace it.

When does SSU screening close?

SSU has announced the opening date and not the closing date. The deadline sits inside the More Information panel on the portal, beside your course, and you will only see it once you enter your registration number.

Going by how the university has run this before, the window usually stays open for roughly two months. That is a pattern, not a promise, so treat any blog quoting you an exact 2026 closing date with suspicion unless it links to an SSU source. Check the panel yourself and write the date down.

SSU courses you can apply for

Sokoto State University runs its undergraduate programmes across five faculties: Science, Arts, Education, Computing, and Management and Social Sciences. The commonly listed programmes include Biochemistry, Biology, Chemistry, Microbiology, Physics, Mathematics and Computer Science on the science side, then Arabic Studies, English Language, Hausa, History and Islamic Studies in Arts, alongside Economics, Geography, Political Science and Sociology, plus Educational Management, Guidance and Counselling and the Education combinations in Biology, Chemistry, Computer Science, Mathematics and Physics.

Worth knowing before you commit: SSU does not run a Nursing programme, and several blogs currently list Medicine, Law and Engineering courses at SSU that do not match the university’s own faculty structure. Do not pick a course based on a blog list, this one included. Check the JAMB brochure for your subject combination and use the More Information button on the portal to confirm what SSU is actually admitting into this session.

How to change your institution to SSU on JAMB CAPS

If you picked SSU second, you cannot apply until that changes. Log into jamb.caps.gov.ng, or go to any JAMB accredited CBT centre, and process a change of institution so Sokoto State University sits in your first choice slot. JAMB charges its own fee for this, separate from the N2,000 screening fee.

Do this before 11 August if you can. The change has to reflect on JAMB’s end before SSU’s portal will recognise your registration number, and that does not happen instantly.

How to apply for SSU Post UTME 2026, step by step

Everything happens at https://applicant.safapply.com/ssu. Set aside about forty minutes, use a stable connection, and have your documents already scanned and saved on whatever device you are using. Doing this on a shaky data connection at 11pm is how uploads fail halfway.

Step 1. Open the portal, scroll down or click the down arrow, and enter your JAMB registration number. The system checks your record and shows you the course you are eligible for. Nothing coming up? It is almost certainly one of three reasons. SSU is not your first choice, your score is below 150, or you typed the registration number wrong. Check all three before you decide the portal has a fault.

Step 2. Click More Information beside your course. Students skip this button constantly and then complain nobody told them things. It shows you the course requirements, the registration fee, the programme duration, the session, and the application closing date. Write that closing date down somewhere. The opening date was announced publicly, but the deadline lives inside this panel.

Step 3. Click Apply Now to start your application.

Step 4. If you already have an account, hit Login with Google or use the manual login form underneath with your email and password.

Step 5. New applicants click Sign up with Google, or register manually. You need a working email address you can open right now, a valid phone number, and a password that meets the portal’s requirements. A verification code goes to your email and you enter it to finish creating the account.

Use an email address that belongs to you and that you will still be able to open in six months, because your admission correspondence goes there. Do not use your friend’s account or the cyber café operator’s email. Students lose control of their own applications this way every single year. And if the verification code does not arrive within a few minutes, check Spam and Promotions before you start hammering the resend button, because repeated requests can lock you out temporarily.

Step 6. After logging in, click Proceed to application form. That takes you to the payment page for the N2,000 fee, with transaction charges added on top, so make sure you have a little more than N2,000 available. Follow the payment instructions, tick both confirmation boxes, then click Proceed to payment. The form unlocks once payment goes through.

You can check whether your money landed under the Transaction History tab on your dashboard. If your account gets debited but the form stays locked, do not pay a second time. Look at Transaction History first, give the bank reversal window time to run, and contact SSU with your transaction reference if it still has not resolved. Getting a double payment refunded is slow and painful.

Step 7. Fill the form, then click Preview and Submit. Actually read the preview instead of clicking through it. Check that your name is spelled exactly as it appears on JAMB and on your WAEC or NECO result, that every digit of your registration number is right, and that your date of birth, state and local government, O’Level subjects and grades, and course are all correct. Open your uploaded documents to confirm they display properly.

Step 8. Anything wrong? Click Update form and fix it now. After final submission you may not get another chance.

Step 9. Click Submit form. Then screenshot it, and download or print the acknowledgement slip. Keep it with your payment receipt. If any dispute comes up later, that slip is your proof that you actually completed the process.

What “no exam” changes about your chances

SSU’s notice ends with a line worth reading twice. Only candidates who complete the screening process will be considered for admission.

Complete means submitted. Paying the N2,000 does not count on its own, and neither does filling half the form and abandoning it. Every year a batch of students pay the fee, leave the form sitting there, and find out months later that nothing was ever submitted, with the money already spent and the seat already gone to somebody else.

The absence of an exam also changes where your marks come from. With no test to lift you, admission rests on your UTME score, your O’Level grades and subject match, catchment and educationally less developed state considerations under national admission policy, and how accurate your submitted data is. Only the last of those is still open to you.

That accuracy point is not a small thing. One wrong digit in your JAMB registration number, or a name that reads Musa Abdullahi on the form and Abdullahi Musa on your WAEC result, creates a mismatch that somebody has to sit down and resolve by hand. During a busy admission cycle, files like that often just get set aside.

And since there is no exam, ignore anyone selling you preparation material for it. There is nothing to prepare for. Ignore the WhatsApp vendors, ignore the blogs charging for CBT practice, and be very suspicious of anybody claiming to be SSU staff who can arrange your admission for a fee. The only money in this process is N2,000 on the official portal.

Mistakes that cost SSU applicants their admission

Leaving it until the last week is the big one. Portals crawl when everybody rushes at the deadline, payment gateways time out, uploads fail halfway through, and the support lines go unanswered exactly when you need them. Apply in the first fortnight and you avoid all of it.

Applying before your O’Level is on CAPS is another. The screening form and the CAPS upload run on separate systems, so finishing one does nothing for the other. Sort CAPS out first.

Then there is the cyber café account problem, where students register with someone else’s email and password and lose access to their own admission updates. Related to that, students who never open the More Information panel are the same students who miss the closing date, because that is where the date is.

Poor scans get people rejected too. So does assuming that 150 guarantees admission when it only guarantees you can apply. And after screening closes, log into CAPS regularly, because an admission offer sitting there unaccepted can be withdrawn and given to someone else.

SSU admission list 2026: what happens after you submit

Your part is done and the university takes over. SSU compiles the applications, checks them against JAMB records, and ranks candidates course by course using UTME scores, O’Level performance, subject compliance and national admission policy.

Offers come through JAMB CAPS. When yours appears, accept it on CAPS straight away, then print your JAMB admission letter. Watch the SSU website and portal after that for the acceptance fee, school fees, registration and resumption dates.

Start gathering your original documents now rather than in resumption week. You will need your WAEC or NECO certificate or result, your JAMB result slip, birth certificate or declaration of age, LGA indigene letter, and passport photographs. Even though screening is online, physical verification usually happens when you resume, and anyone whose uploads do not match the originals they present on campus can lose the admission at that stage, which is reason enough to upload only genuine documents.

Three things you will see on other SSU pages that are wrong as of today. The old screening portal address, portal.ssu.edu.ng, is not where the 2026 application happens. A 140 cut-off mark is from an earlier session, not this one. And any page telling you SSU uses a fixed percentage weighting between your JAMB score and O’Level grades has invented it, because the university has published no such formula.
