Listings of the call vary a little on the benefits and the LASUSTECH campuses. The application form you get from the foundation’s secretary is final on both points.

Deadline

Email your completed form and documents by Monday, 30 November 2026. Applying is free; never pay anyone for the form or for a place.

Who can apply for the KAWEF Scholarship

The foundation set four conditions for 2026, and you need all four.

  1. Ikorodu Division indigene: you must be from one of the six councils that make up Ikorodu Division (listed below). Living in Ikorodu without being an indigene does not count.
  2. Eligible course: Architecture, Building Technology, Quantity Surveying, Estate Management or Civil Engineering. Students of other courses are outside this call.
  3. Eligible university and level: a full-time student in Year 3, 4 or 5 at LASU, OAU, Caleb University or LASUSTECH.
  4. Financial need: the call is for talented students who genuinely need support to stay in school.

Councils in Ikorodu Division

Councils in Ikorodu Division
Ikorodu Central
Ikorodu North
Ikorodu West
Igbogbo-Baiyeku
Ijede
Imota

Your proof of indigeneship is a letter or certificate from one of these councils, plus a letter from a traditional ruler in your community, so you need to be known there.

Why only five courses?

The five courses are all built environment programmes, which matches the founder’s field. Professor Wahab is an Emeritus Professor of Building at OAU and a former Special Adviser to the President on Due Process.

Eligibility edge cases

  • Ikorodu indigene living elsewhere: you qualify. The rule is about where you are from, not where you live, as long as your council and a traditional ruler can vouch for you.
  • Only your mother is from Ikorodu: the foundation has not published a rule. If your council will issue the certificate and a traditional ruler will write for you, ask the secretary before you put the work in.
  • Caleb University students: Caleb is a private university and is named in the call, so you are eligible despite the private fees.
  • Students at UNILAG, YABATECH or other schools: not eligible this round, even in the right course.
  • Direct entry students: what counts is your current year. If you entered at 200 level and are now in 300 level, you fit.
  • Minimum CGPA: none has been published. The call asks for talented students, so your transcript still matters a lot.
  • Final-year students: Year 4 in a four-year course or Year 5 in a five-year course is covered. Keep in mind the award runs for one academic year.

Who should apply, and who shouldn’t

Apply if you are an Ikorodu Division indigene in 300 to 500 level of one of the five built environment courses at one of the four named universities, and you are struggling with fees or upkeep. With ten places and such a narrow pool, your odds are far better than with an open national scholarship.

Don’t apply if you are not an indigene, are in 100 or 200 level, study a course outside the five, or attend a university not on the list. The foundation has been specific, and an application outside those lines is unlikely to be read.

Documents for the KAWEF Scholarship 2026

DocumentWhere to get it
Completed KAWEF application formFrom the foundation’s secretary on WhatsApp
Academic records or transcriptYour faculty or student portal result printouts for each session so far
Admission letterYour university portal
School ID cardYour current student ID, scanned on both sides
Personal statementWritten by you: your background, your course and why you need support
Local government ID or certificate of indigeneshipYour council secretariat in Ikorodu Division
Letter from a traditional rulerThe Oba or a recognised chief in your community

Start with the indigeneship certificate and the traditional ruler’s letter. Council offices and palaces can take several days, and you cannot finish the application without them. Our recommendation letter samples show what a good letter states, which helps if the person writing yours asks what to include.

The foundation has not set file formats. Since everything goes by email, I would send each document as a separate, clearly named PDF (“Transcript Tunde Bakare.pdf”), keep the total small enough for Gmail’s attachment limit, and avoid sending phone photos of documents lying on a bed.

How to write the KAWEF personal statement

The listings ask for a personal statement or statement of purpose but give no length or prompt. One page, around 500 words, is plenty. The selectors are a foundation started by a professor of building, choosing ten built environment students from Ikorodu who are talented and in need. Your statement should touch all three of those points.

  1. Where you are from: your town or community in Ikorodu Division and one detail that ties you to it.
  2. Your course and record: your university, level, CGPA and one piece of work you are proud of, such as a studio design, a site visit or a project.
  3. Your need: who pays your fees, what is outstanding and what it is costing you (missed practicals, long commutes, part-time work).
  4. Your plan: what you want to build or manage after school, ideally with a link back to Ikorodu or Lagos.

A sample opening

“I grew up in Ijede, where every rainy season the road to my secondary school flooded because the drains were too small. That is why I chose Civil Engineering. I am now in 300 level at LASUSTECH with a CGPA of 3.81, and I am paying part of my fees from weekend work on a building site in Ikorodu.”

That opening shows roots, a reason for the course, a grade and the need in four sentences. Use your own story and real figures; do not borrow these.

How to apply for the KAWEF Scholarship

  1. Request the form: send a WhatsApp message to the foundation’s secretary, Olufemi Adebayo Wahab, on 08023148777. The line is for WhatsApp messages only, so do not call.
  2. Introduce yourself briefly: give your name, council, university, course and level, and ask for the 2026 KAWEF application form.
  3. Collect your documents: use the table above, and scan everything clearly.
  4. Write your personal statement: follow the outline above and proofread it.
  5. Fill in the form: type or write neatly, and make sure your name matches your school and council documents.
  6. Email it: send the form and all documents to kawefscholarship@gmail.com. Put “KAWEF 2026 Application: [your name], [course], [university]” in the subject line.
  7. Submit on time: send it before Monday, 30 November 2026, and keep a copy of the sent email.

Common mistakes

  • Calling the WhatsApp number: it is for messages only. A call can annoy the person you need help from.
  • Leaving the traditional ruler’s letter to November: palaces have their own schedule.
  • A blank or vague email: an email with attachments and no message looks careless. Write two lines saying who you are and what is attached.
  • Missing transcript pages: send results for every session you have completed, not just the latest.
  • Sending files one by one in ten emails: one email with all attachments (or a single combined PDF) is easier for the foundation to track.

What happens after you apply

Selection is competitive. The foundation reviews your academic record and your documents against the conditions above, and the ten scholars receive their awards at its annual event in December. KAWEF has not published whether there is an interview, how winners are told, or how the money is paid (to you or straight to your school). Keep your phone on and your WhatsApp active in early December, and be ready to attend the presentation in person.

Support beyond the first year depends on meeting the programme’s guidelines, which the foundation has not published in detail. Keeping your grades up and turning up to mentorship sessions is the safe assumption.

Costs the scholarship may not cover

KAWEF has not published a naira value, so the cover may not match your actual bills. Built environment students often still need to fund studio and drawing materials, design software and a capable laptop, SIWES placement costs, field trips and final-year project or thesis costs. If you are in Year 4 of a five-year course, plan for Year 5 in case support does not continue.
