Clark University scholarships for international students come in two forms: merit scholarships, which every undergraduate applicant is considered for automatically, and the Presidential Scholarship, which covers full tuition, housing and meals for three to five students a year. Clark also adjusts some packages for financial need, but it is need-aware for international applicants and says it cannot cover the full cost of attendance for most of them.
Clark charges no application fee. You apply through the Common App or Coalition App with Scoir, then complete Clark’s International Student Certification of Finances and Financial Assistance Application Form in your applicant portal. For fall 2027 entry the deadlines are 1 November 2026 (Early Decision I and Early Action) and 15 January 2027 (Early Decision II and Regular Decision).

Clark University merit scholarships for international students
Clark considers all undergraduate applicants for merit scholarships when it reads their admission application. A select number of international first-year and transfer students receive them each year. Merit awards are based on your academic record; your family’s finances play no part in them.
| Award | Value | Who gets it | How to apply |
|---|---|---|---|
| Presidential Scholarship | Full tuition, on-campus housing and meals for four years | 3 to 5 students a year | Automatic; finalists are invited to interview |
| Clark merit scholarships | Up to $20,000 a year (per Clark’s aid FAQ) | Strong applicants, including a select number of international students | Automatic with your admission application |
| Need-based adjustment | Varies | Admitted students whose finances form shows need | Certification of Finances and Financial Assistance form |
Merit awards renew for up to four years (eight semesters) if you keep Clark’s academic standards. Clark does not publish the renewal GPA on its public pages; your award letter states it.
The Presidential Scholarship
The Presidential Scholarship is Clark’s top award and the only one that comes close to a full ride. Clark’s international admissions page says recipients still pay roughly $12,000 to $15,000 a year in other costs, such as health insurance, fees, books, travel and personal spending. The scholarship committee looks at all admitted students using their admission applications, then invites finalists to interview. Clark’s cost page tells students to apply by the admission deadline to be considered, so apply in your first-choice round, not late.
What about the Global Scholars Program?
Several scholarship sites still list a Clark “Global Scholars Program”. Clark ran a scholarship by that name for international students in the 2010s; a 2013 Clark news story describes 19 new scholars from 14 countries, each paired with a mentor. Clark’s current admissions and financial aid pages do not list it, so do not expect a separate Global Scholars award for fall 2027.
Is Clark need-blind for international students?
No. Clark says plainly that international admission is need-aware. If your Certification of Finances form shows more need than the merit scholarships can cover, Clark may deny your application on financial grounds. It also says it cannot offer financial assistance that covers the full cost of attendance.
In practice, this means Clark works best for students whose families can pay part of the cost, around $40,000 a year after a typical award, or for top students in the running for the Presidential Scholarship. If you need full funding, apply alongside full-need colleges such as those in our list of the best American scholarships for international students.

Who is eligible
You count as an international applicant at Clark if you are not a US citizen or permanent resident. To be considered for scholarships you need:
- A complete first-year or transfer application by your round’s deadline.
- The International Student Certification of Finances and Financial Assistance Application Form, which appears in your applicant status portal after you apply.
- Strong grades. Merit is based fully on your academic background.
Eligibility edge cases
- Transfer students: eligible for merit scholarships. Fall transfers apply on a rolling basis from 1 February to 1 May; spring transfers from 1 September to 1 November.
- Students who need English support: Clark may recommend its English for Academic Success Program, which lasts one to four semesters.
- Families who cannot show enough funds: Clark may deny admission for financial reasons, since it is need-aware.
- ISFAA users: Clark does not accept the ISFAA. Use Clark’s own form.

The finance form appears only after you apply

Writing a Clark application that wins merit aid
Since merit is based on your academic record, your transcript matters most. The essay and interview help Clark see why its awards should go to you.
- Show academic drive: a project, competition or independent reading in your planned field.
- Explain context: if your school grades harshly or offers few advanced courses, your counsellor should say so.
- Show fit: name the Clark programme, lab or club you would join and why.
- Use the interview: speak about one idea you care about, in detail.
A sample essay opening (invented for illustration): “The river behind my school changes colour twice a year. In my second year I started testing it with a borrowed kit, and the results became my first spreadsheet.”
Give your counsellor and teacher a one-page summary of your projects and results, so their letters can describe your academic drive in detail.
What happens after you apply
- Merit decisions: come with your admission decision.
- Presidential finalists: are invited to interview before final awards.
- Need-based adjustments: are based on your finance form.
- I-20: your Certification of Finances must show that your family can pay the part of the cost your scholarship does not cover.
- Work: limited part-time campus jobs exist, but Clark calls the pay “pocket money”. F-1 students cannot work off campus.
- Paying the balance: Clark offers payment plans through Student Accounts, and private loans exist for international students, though Clark urges families to try other options first.
Costs Clark scholarships may not cover
- Health insurance, unless you have comparable cover.
- Fees, books and personal costs, even with the Presidential Scholarship.
- Flights and visa fees.
- The remaining balance after a partial merit award, which Clark puts at about $40,000 a year for a typical international student.
Common mistakes
- Expecting a full scholarship from a need-aware college that says it cannot meet full cost.
- Forgetting the finance form because it appears only after you apply.
- Filing the ISFAA, which Clark does not accept.
- Applying Early Decision without checking that your family can pay the balance.
- Searching for a separate Global Scholars application.
- Skipping the interview when your English test score is close to the indicator.

Who should apply, and who should not
Apply if you have strong grades and your family can pay part of the cost, or if you are a top student who could reach the Presidential Scholarship. Clark suits students who want a research university in Worcester, Massachusetts, and the free application makes it an easy addition to your list.
If your family cannot contribute anything, Clark is risky as your only choice, because it says it cannot fund the full cost and may decline applicants with high need.
