The IMT Library and Information Science cut off mark is 100 in the UTME, JAMB’s national minimum for polytechnics for 2026/2027. The Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, has not published a departmental figure for Library and Information Science, so 100 is the official floor you must reach before IMT will look at your application.
2027/2028 update: IMT cut-off marks usually stay the same from one year to the next, so the figures on this page are what 2027/2028 candidates should plan with. They are based on JAMB’s 2026 national minimum for polytechnics, because IMT has not published its own course cut-offs. If the 2027/2028 notice changes anything, we will update this page.
This is one of the most open courses at IMT on subjects. JAMB’s brochure lets you write any three subjects from the arts, social sciences or physical sciences with English, and it carries no special IMT remark. The harder parts are the O’level, where Mathematics is a compulsory credit, and getting your documents into CAPS early. Below are the official figures, the 120 IMT used in 2024, my safe target, the subject rules, how IMT screens, two worked examples, the CAPS steps and what the course leads to.
IMT Library and Information Science cut off mark at a glance
| Item | 2026/2027 position | Status |
|---|---|---|
| JAMB minimum UTME score for polytechnics (applies to IMT) | 100 | Official (JAMB 2026 policy meeting, reported by NAN on 11 May 2026) |
| IMT’s own cut-off for Library and Information Science | Not published | No IMT departmental figure for 2025/2026 or 2026/2027 in any source I reached |
| My safe target score (advice) | 110 or higher; 130 is comfortable | Consultant advice, not an IMT rule |
| School at IMT | School of Communication Arts | IMT Registrar notices, March 2024 |
| Level and award | National Diploma (ND) | ND is the UTME entry point |
| Duration | 2 years full-time for ND | NBTE standard ND length |
| UTME subjects | English plus any three from arts, social science or physical science subjects | JAMB brochure; no IMT remark |
| O’level | Five credits including English and Mathematics, plus three from the brochure list | JAMB brochure; no IMT remark |
| HND at IMT | Not on IMT’s HND list | IMT HND notice (2019/2020), repeated in a 2026 reprint |
| Part-time | Not on IMT’s part-time list | imt.edu.ng part-time page |
IMT cut-off mark history for Library and Information Science
IMT does not publish a separate cut-off mark for each ND course. What exists is the national floor that JAMB sets for all polytechnics, and one threshold IMT itself used in 2024.
| Session | Figure | What it is | Status |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2026/2027 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics and monotechnics | Official (NAN, 11 May 2026) |
| 2025/2026 | 100 | JAMB national minimum for polytechnics | Official (Nairametrics and Channels TV, 8 July 2025) |
| 2023/2024 | 120 | IMT’s threshold for its advertised courses round, which listed Library and Information Science | Official IMT Registrar notices, March 2024 |
The 120 comes from two notices the IMT Registrar posted on imt.edu.ng in March 2024. They invited candidates from the 2023/2024 UTME who had scored 120 or more and had not yet been admitted to apply for courses that still had places. Library and Information Sciences was the only course listed under the School of Communication Arts in that round. No 2026/2027 IMT notice that I could open repeats the 120, so treat JAMB’s 100 as the floor and aim above it.
Safe target score for Library and Information Science at IMT (my advice)
IMT has never published a score band for this course. The bands below are my judgement, based on how library courses fill at state polytechnics in the South East and on the fact that IMT still had Library places to advertise after its main 2023/2024 round. Use them for planning only.
| Your UTME score | My read for Library and Information Science at IMT |
|---|---|
| Below 100 | Not eligible for any polytechnic, IMT included |
| 100 to 109 | Eligible; apply early and keep documents complete |
| 110 to 119 | Possible |
| 120 to 129 | Competitive |
| 130 and above | Strong for this course at IMT |
Library science draws fewer applicants than Mass Communication or Accountancy at the same school, and IMT’s 2024 notice suggests it does not always fill in the first round. That does not make it automatic. For the 2027 UTME I would aim for at least 110, ideally 130, so that a weak O’level grade or a late upload does not decide the outcome.
Catchment and state of origin
IMT is owned by Enugu State, so Enugu indigenes are its home catchment, but it admits candidates from every state. IMT has not published a merit, catchment or quota split for its ND courses, so your score, the O’level credits and timely documents count for more than where you come from.
IMT Library and Information Science subject combination and O’level requirements
| Requirement | Library and Information Science (ND) at IMT |
|---|---|
| UTME rule | Use of English and any three subjects from Arts, Social Science or Physical Science |
| IMT remark (UTME) | None in the brochure |
| Combinations I would use | English, Government, Economics, Literature in English; or English, Mathematics, Economics, Government; or English, CRS, Government, Literature in English |
| O’level rule | Credits in English Language and Mathematics, plus any three of History, Literature in English, Economics or Commerce, Fine Arts, Government, Biology, Physics, Chemistry, Basic Electricity, Geography, Typewriting, Commerce or Principles of Accounts |
| IMT remark (O’level) | None in the brochure |
| Exams accepted | WAEC, NECO or NABTEB (SSCE or GCE), at most two sittings |
| Direct Entry | Not used for ND. The brochure lists no Direct Entry route |
JAMB’s rule is broad, so most arts and social science candidates already fit it. The one grey area is Biology. It is a life science, and the brochure’s wording names arts, social science and physical science only. I would not build a combination around Biology for this course. If your UTME already has Biology, ask IMT’s admissions office before you rely on it, or use a combination with Government, Economics or Literature.
Mathematics deserves attention at O’level. Several polytechnics accept a pass in Mathematics for library courses, and the brochure carries remarks for schools such as Plateau Polytechnic and Federal Polytechnic Mubi that allow this. IMT has no such remark, so plan on a credit in Mathematics, together with English.
Two library entries on IMT’s JAMB list
Myschool’s reprint of IMT’s JAMB course list shows both “Library and Information Science” and “Library and Information Management”. The second entry’s brochure page shows no requirements. IMT’s own 2024 notice uses the name Library and Information Sciences. When you register, pick the library course that shows under IMT Enugu on JAMB’s e-brochure, and if both show, ask IMT which one it is admitting into before you pay for the form.
How IMT screens ND Library and Information Science candidates
IMT’s website links a notice titled “Call for 2026/2027 admission into ND and HND programs (regular and part-time)”, and applications run through the SLMS application page on portal.imt.edu.ng. I could not open the 2026/2027 call itself, so the newest confirmed details on how IMT screens ND candidates come from its official 2023/2024 notices. Those notices said IMT would hold no post-UTME examination for its diploma programmes that session and would admit on verified JAMB scores plus O’level results uploaded to CAPS.
| Detail | What we know | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Who applies | Candidates who chose IMT in the UTME and scored at least the JAMB minimum | Standard JAMB rule |
| Where | portal.imt.edu.ng (SLMS Application) | Confirmed link on imt.edu.ng |
| Form fee | ₦2,000 in 2023/2024 | Official IMT notice, March 2024; confirm the 2026/2027 fee on the portal |
| Payment | Interswitch at a bank under Enugu State IGR, or by card through IMT’s Quickteller link | Official IMT notice, March 2024 |
| Screening method | No post-UTME for diploma programmes in 2023/2024; admission on verified JAMB score and O’level on CAPS | Official for 2023/2024; IMT has not published the 2026/2027 method |
| Part-time option | Library and Information Science is not on IMT’s part-time list | imt.edu.ng part-time page |
| Admission deadline for polytechnics (2026/2027) | Runs until 31 December 2026 | Official (JAMB, via NAN) |
| Time to accept an offer on CAPS | Four weeks | Official (JAMB, via NAN) |
Worked examples for Library and Information Science applicants
IMT has not published an aggregate formula for ND admission, and the blogs that print one do not cite an IMT document. These examples simply measure the gap between a UTME score, the national floor and my safe target, then check the subjects against the brochure.
Take Adaeze, who scored 118 in English, Government, Literature in English and CRS. From one WAEC sitting she has B3 in English, C6 in Mathematics, C4 in Government, B2 in Literature, C5 in CRS and C6 in Economics.
- Eligibility: 118 minus 100 = 18. She is clear of JAMB’s polytechnic minimum.
- Against my safe target: 118 minus 110 = 8. She is in the possible band.
- UTME subjects: Government, Literature and CRS are arts and social science subjects, so the combination fits.
- O’level: English and Mathematics are credits, and Government, Literature and Economics fill the other three from the brochure list. CRS is not on that list, so it does not count.
- What I would advise: keep IMT, upload her result to CAPS straight away and fill the form the week it opens.
Kelechi scored 104 with English, Biology, Chemistry and Physics because he first wanted a health course. He is eligible on score, but Biology is outside the brochure’s wording and he is only 4 marks above the floor. I would advise him to ask IMT whether it accepts his combination for library science before the form closes. If he would rather not take the risk, his subjects already fit Science Laboratory Technology at IMT, where the brochure allows Biology and Physics and IMT also accepts Chemistry, and he could move there with a JAMB change of course.
How to apply for Library and Information Science at IMT, step by step
- Get your JAMB profile code: send NIN, a space and your 11-digit NIN to 55019 or 66019 from the phone line linked to your NIN.
- Confirm the course on IMT’s list: Library and Information Science is on IMT’s course list in JAMB’s brochure as reprinted by Myschool. Open the IMT Enugu entry on JAMB’s e-brochure when you register and check it still shows.
- Register for the UTME: choose Library and Information Science, register English and three arts, social science or physical science subjects, and pick IMT Enugu as your polytechnic choice. If you picked another school first, a JAMB change of institution is possible before IMT closes its form, and a JAMB change of course fixes a wrong course.
- Upload your O’level to CAPS: go to an accredited CBT centre and have your WAEC, NECO or NABTEB result uploaded. IMT’s 2023/2024 notices made this upload part of the admission decision, and no school can recommend you on CAPS without it.
- Fill IMT’s application form: when the admission call appears on imt.edu.ng, open portal.imt.edu.ng, click Apply, fill the form, choose Interswitch to generate an invoice, pay and print the acknowledgement slip. Use an email address and phone number you check daily.
- Check your status: use the admission checker on the IMT portal, then log in at efacility.jamb.gov.ng, choose Check Admission Status and open CAPS.
- Accept within four weeks: JAMB gave candidates four weeks to accept 2026 offers. Our JAMB CAPS guide explains every status you might see.
- Pay acceptance and clear: blogs put IMT’s acceptance fee at ₦25,000, but IMT has not published it in any source I reached. Pay only against an invoice generated on the IMT portal.
Warning
Every genuine IMT offer appears on JAMB CAPS. Anyone selling an “IMT Library Science slot” or a place on a special list is outside the process. Pay fees only through invoices generated on portal.imt.edu.ng.
Your chances of getting Library and Information Science at IMT
JAMB’s 100 only makes you eligible. For this course the subject rule is loose, so the things that knock candidates out are a missing Mathematics credit, an O’level result never uploaded to CAPS, and failing to fill IMT’s own form before it closes.
IMT’s 2024 advertised courses notice listed Library and Information Sciences among the courses with places left after the main round, open to candidates with 120 or more. I read this as a course where a candidate with complete documents and a score of 110 or more has a good chance. A score close to 100 can still work, but only if everything else is in order.
Studying Library and Information Science at IMT Enugu
Library and Information Science trains you to collect, organise, store and find information, in print and in digital systems. ND graduates work as library assistants and library officers, and in records and information units of schools, government offices and companies.
What you study
IMT has not put its course outline online, so the list below describes what the ND in library and information science generally covers in Nigerian polytechnics. Ask the department for its own outline at registration.
- Cataloguing and classification: describing books and items and arranging them by subject.
- Reference and information services: answering users’ questions and finding sources.
- Collection development: choosing, buying and weeding library stock.
- Library automation and ICT: library software, databases and digital collections.
- Records and archives management: keeping official files and documents.
- Use of library and research skills: teaching users how to find and cite information.
- Practical work: a SIWES placement in a library or records office.
Accreditation
At IMT’s Global Homecoming on 13 June 2026, the Rector, Prof. Sunday Gozie Ogbodo, said all courses offered by IMT are now fully accredited, after more than 70% of programmes had lost accreditation by the time he took office in 2024. An NBTE accreditation team visited in November 2025. NBTE has not published a programme-by-programme result for this course at IMT that I could find, so its individual status is not confirmed. Librarians in Nigeria are registered by the Librarians’ Registration Council of Nigeria (LRCN). Check the council’s current rules for ND holders directly. Ask the department to show the current accreditation letter during clearance if this matters to you.
HND after the ND
Library and Information Science is not on IMT’s HND list. The 2019/2020 HND notice on imt.edu.ng, and the 2026 reprint of it, cover Mass Communication under the School of Communication Arts but no library course. Plan to look for HND or a degree in library science elsewhere after your ND. Our IMT HND admission requirements guide lists the HND courses IMT does run.

Mistakes that cost library science applicants an IMT place
- Treating 100 as admission: it only makes you eligible to apply.
- No Mathematics credit: IMT has no remark allowing a pass.
- Building the UTME around Biology: the brochure names arts, social science and physical science subjects.
- Late CAPS upload: IMT’s 2023/2024 notices made the O’level on CAPS part of the decision.
- Buying a “slot”: offers come only through CAPS and the IMT portal.
IMT Library and Information Science cut off mark: frequently asked questions
What is the IMT cut off mark for Library and Information Science? It is 100, JAMB’s 2026 minimum for polytechnics. IMT has not published a separate figure for the course, so I would aim for 110 or more.
What JAMB subjects do I need for Library Science in IMT? English plus any three subjects from the arts, social sciences or physical sciences. A combination such as Government, Economics and Literature in English is safe.
Is Mathematics compulsory for Library and Information Science in IMT? Not in the UTME, but you need an O’level credit in Mathematics alongside English, because the brochure gives IMT no waiver.
Does IMT offer HND in Library and Information Science? Not on IMT’s HND list. You would complete the ND at IMT and look for HND or a degree in library science at another institution.
Sources and updates
The 100 minimum for polytechnics in 2026, the 31 December 2026 admission deadline for polytechnics and the four-week acceptance window come from the News Agency of Nigeria report of JAMB’s 2026 policy meeting (11 May 2026). The 2025 minimum of 100 is from Nairametrics and Channels TV (8 July 2025). The UTME subjects and O’level list come from Myschool’s reprint of the JAMB polytechnic brochure for Library and Information Science (the social sciences entry carries the same institution remarks, none for IMT), and the course’s place on IMT’s list from Myschool’s IMT Enugu course list, both checked on 29 October 2026. The 120 threshold, the ₦2,000 form fee, the payment channels, the school groupings and the no post-UTME rule for 2023/2024 are from IMT Registrar notices on imt.edu.ng dated 4 March 2024 and 22 March 2024. The HND list and entry rule are from IMT’s 2019/2020 HND notice. The part-time list is from IMT’s part-time programmes page. The accreditation remarks are from BusinessDay (13 June 2026). The ₦25,000 acceptance fee is from blogs and is unofficial, and the safe target scores are my advice. This page will be updated when IMT publishes its 2027/2028 admission notice.
