Osun Indigenes Scholarship 2026/2027: ₦100,000 Award, Documents and Deadline
The Osun Indigenes Organization USA scholarship pays ₦100,000 to the school of a full-time Osun State student in financial need. Eligibility, the essay and three letters, where to email the form and the 22 October 2027 deadline.

The Osun Indigenes scholarship is a ₦100,000 award from the Osun Indigenes Organization USA (TOIOG), a non-profit based in the Washington metropolitan area of the United States. It is for Osun State indigenes admitted as full-time students to a college or university who are in good academic standing and need financial help. The money is paid to your school after verification, not to you.

The 2026/2027 round closed on 22 October 2026. The Osun Indigenes scholarship deadline is 22 October 2027. You apply by downloading a PDF form from osunindigenes.net, preparing an essay, three recommendation letters and a few documents, and emailing the full package to the organisation, so most of the work can start long before the form comes out.

Who runs the Osun Indigenes scholarship?

The Osun Indigenes Organization (TOIOG) is a social and philanthropic association in the United States that supports less privileged people at home and contributes to relief efforts in the US and Africa. The scholarship is its education project for students from Osun State. The 2023/2024 round offered a one-time ₦50,000 bursary with an August 2023 deadline, and the 2026/2027 round doubled that to ₦100,000.

Because it is run by volunteers abroad rather than a government board, the process is simple and paper based: one form, one email, written notice to winners. There is no portal, no screening test and no published interview stage.

Osun Indigenes scholarship eligibility

  1. Origin: you must be from Osun State.
  2. Admission: you must hold admission to a college or university. The 2023 call named polytechnics, colleges of education and colleges of technology as well as universities.
  3. Study mode: enrolled or accepted as a full-time student.
  4. Grades: good academic standing, shown by your latest transcript.
  5. Need: you must show financial need and self-discipline.

The organisation has not published a minimum CGPA or a number of awards, so the essay and letters carry real weight in a need-based award like this.

Eligibility edge cases

  • Born or raised outside Osun: the rule is about origin, not residence. If your parents are from an Osun town and your Local Government will write you a letter, you fit the wording, even if you grew up in Lagos or Abuja.
  • Studying outside Osun: nothing in the call limits where your school is. An Osun indigene at a school in Ibadan, Ilorin or Nsukka meets the wording.
  • Part-time, sandwich or distance learning: the call says full time, so these do not fit.
  • Fresh students with no transcript yet: the call asks for your most recent transcript but does not say what a newly admitted student should send instead. Your admission letter and O’level result are the closest substitute; explain the gap in your email.
  • Private institutions: the call does not exclude them. Need is the test, so a student at a private school will have to explain why the family cannot pay.
  • Postgraduate students: the call speaks of college or university admission and does not mention postgraduate study. Treat it as an undergraduate award.

Documents for the Osun Indigenes scholarship

DocumentWhat it must contain
Application formThe current year’s PDF form, fully completed
EssayTwo pages, typed, double spaced, on “How to make a difference in my community”
Recommendation letter 1From a religious leader in your community
Recommendation letter 2From a teacher who knows your educational goals
Recommendation letter 3From your Local Government
Passport photographsTaken within the last six months
School transcriptYour most recent one
Birth certificateA copy

Start with the Local Government letter, since it depends on an office’s schedule. Ask your LGA secretariat for a letter confirming you are an indigene and stating your ward and town. For the other two letters, our recommendation letter samples show what your pastor, imam or teacher should cover.

A good religious leader’s letter says how long they have known you, what you do in the church or mosque, and something specific about your character. A good teacher’s letter mentions your subjects, your results and what you plan to study. Ask both people at least three weeks before you need the letters, and give each one a short note with your course, school and the essay topic so they can write something that fits.

How to write the Osun Indigenes scholarship essay

The topic is fixed: “How to make a difference in my community”. The panel is made up of people from Osun who now live abroad and give back at home, so they want to see that you know your town and already act for it. A strong essay is local, practical and honest about your own situation.

  • Name your actual community (town, quarter or compound) and one problem you have seen there.
  • Describe something you have already done about it, however small: tutoring younger pupils, a church or mosque youth project, a clean-up.
  • Connect your course to what you will do next for the community.
  • Mention your financial situation briefly and plainly, since this is a need-based award.
  • Keep to two typed, double-spaced pages. Going over the limit tells the panel you did not read the instructions.

A sample opening: “In the quarter where I grew up in Ilesa, most children stop going to lesson after primary six because the nearest tutor charges more than their parents make in a week. Since my WAEC in 2025, I have taught eight of them Mathematics every Saturday in our church hall.” It names a place, a problem and an action in three sentences. Use your own facts; a copied opening helps nobody.

Two pages double spaced is roughly 500 to 600 words in a normal 12-point font. Use the rest after your opening to explain what your course will let you do and one realistic plan for the next two or three years.

How to apply for the Osun Indigenes scholarship

  1. Download the form: get the current form from osunindigenes.net. The 2026/2027 form was at osunindigenes.net/wp-content/uploads/2026/09/SCHOLARSHIP_FORM_YEAR-2026-27.pdf.
  2. Fill it accurately: name the school that should receive the money, since payment goes there.
  3. Prepare attachments: essay, three letters, photographs, transcript and birth certificate, scanned clearly.
  4. Email the package: send everything to toiog.scholarship@osunindigenes.net before the deadline.
  5. Wait for written notice: winners are told in writing, and the school is paid after verification.

Getting the email right

The organisation has not set a file format, so make it easy for the reviewers. Scan each item to PDF, name the files clearly (“Essay-Adebayo-Tunde.pdf”, “LGA-letter-Adebayo-Tunde.pdf”) and attach them to one email. Use a subject line such as “2027/2028 Scholarship Application: Adebayo Tunde, OAU”. In the body, write two or three lines listing what is attached and your phone number.

Most free email services cap attachments at around 20 to 25MB in one message, so compress large scans before sending. If your files are still too big, send two emails with the same subject line, marked “Part 1 of 2” and “Part 2 of 2”. Check your Sent folder afterwards to confirm the email left.

Scam warning

Applying is free; never pay anyone. The organisation pays your school directly, so anyone asking you for a processing fee or your bank PIN to “release” the award is a scammer. Send your application only to the osunindigenes.net email address.

What happens after you apply

  1. Review: the organisation reads the forms, essays and letters. It has not published its scoring method.
  2. Written notice: winners are told in writing, according to the 2023 call. Watch your email, including spam.
  3. Verification: your school confirms you are a registered full-time student.
  4. Payment: the ₦100,000 goes to your school, usually against your fees. Ask your bursary office for a receipt showing it was credited to your account.

No results date has been published. If you hear nothing within two or three months of the deadline, you can send one polite follow-up email.

Costs ₦100,000 will not cover

₦100,000 is a one-off contribution, not full funding. Because it goes to your school, it cannot be spent on accommodation off campus, transport, feeding or books. At many public universities it may cover a good part of a year’s fees; at a private institution it will cover far less. Plan for the rest from family, a state bursary or another award.

Common mistakes to avoid

  • Using last year’s form instead of the current one.
  • Sending two letters instead of three, usually because the Local Government letter was not ready.
  • Writing an essay about yourself only, with nothing about your community.
  • Writing more than two pages or using single spacing.
  • Using passport photographs older than six months.
  • Sending the application to an email address you found on a social media post instead of the osunindigenes.net address.

Who should apply, and who should not

Apply if you are from Osun State, you are a full-time student at a university, polytechnic or college, your results are decent and your family struggles with fees. It is especially worth the effort if you already do something useful in your town, because the essay topic rewards exactly that.

Skip it if you are not an Osun indigene, you study part time, you are a postgraduate student, or you cannot get a Local Government letter in time. Also think twice if you need full funding: ₦100,000 helps, but it will not carry a whole degree.
